I can’t believe I did it!

Julia with Jaynie Roberts Well as I mentioned on my last blog I have a few days off, but I didn't mention that I was lucky enough to be invited to travel with a friend to Canada! I think you might recognise the friend in question, Jaynie Roberts, who brings 'Slim n Lift' to QVC.

We sometimes meet up in Spain as her sister owns a restaurant in the same area as my house and we've become good pals. But I must admit I was suprised to get an email a couple of weeks ago asking me if I'd like to join her on a trip to Canada where she was to be doing some filming for a new 'Slim n Lift' product the Aire Bra… I do hope we are going to be getting it on QVC!
How could I refuse – I've never been to Canada before and Niagara Falls is definitely on my 'to do' list! So here I am enjoying an unexpected experience.

Julia walking on the glass floor of the CN Tower Yesterday we went into Toronto to visit the CN Tower, which used to be the tallest building in the world and I must confess I don't have the greatest head for heights. It's so tall that your ears 'pop' in the lift on the way up!

The views over Toronto are spectacular but the bit I wasn't so keen on was walking on the glass floor! Of course you don't have to do it, but my daughter Sophie did when she visited on a sports tour with her school, so I just had to conquer my fears!

You can see down to the ground below – equivalent in height to a 116 storey apartment building. Thank goodness Jaynie took a photo of me – proof that I did it, cos I can hardly believe it myself!
View from the CN Tower, Toronto We then went to a lovely restaurant that Jaynie knows for dinner and you'll never guess who was sat at the next table… Colin Farrell! We had seen them doing some filming downtown but had no idea what or who, and then he turned up in the same restaurant!
We even had fun getting home. The ticket office in the subway was closed and we didn't have enough change to buy the tickets from the machine so I stopped a 'local' to ask if they could change us a note for some coins. Instead the chap said he'd swipe us through with his pass, but he could only do it once… have you got a visual image of us squeezing through the turnstile together – it was hysterical!
Friday we are planning to visit Niagara Falls before flying back – hopefully I'll be able to get some great photos to share with you.
My only regret about coming is that I am missing some brilliant shows and TSVs on QVC – Tiana B, Elemis… I could go on!

Have a great weekend and see you on Tuesday,
Love Julia xx

    Hi Julia,
Wow-wii! How lucky are you?! I did expect you to be in your home in Spain but I did not expect you to in Toronto!! It’s on my list too..love to get there! And my my…Oscars and now hob-nobbing with Colin Farrell?! That was super kind of Jaynie to invite you wasn’t it. I hope you’ve enjoyed your hols but as you say lots of lovely shows here – saying that I haven’t been able to watch too many. Did love Pip and Jilly’s Lola shows though. They’re great together and their style is beautiful. Hope Sophie has enjoyed Spain too. Quite the travelling year in the Roberts/Maxwell household!
    Safe flight home.

Just me again Julia, I meant to say thanks for the info on your use for acupuncture. And that’s not a bad price you got it seems. Plus I also read your comment about your sis having a rough time – I hope she’s not sick again. Thinking of her.

Hi Julia. Great blog. You are very brave going up the CN Tower let alone walking on the glass floor. It looks terrifying! I went to Keeley’s salon for a facial this week. It was a lovely experience. She is such a lovely lady. I absolutely adore Elemis and will definitely be spending a few bob tomorrow – which is not good as I’ve been very naughty on the ‘Get Gorgeous’ event! Bought two Tiana B dresses, some Bare Escentuals and a Honora necklace and earings. Oh well, I suppose that means I will just have to go back to work next week! Not got all the planting done yet but hope to finish tomorrow and Monday (in between watching QVC!) xx

WOW how great to get the opportunity to go to Canada. The CN Tower is certainly high, you were brave going up there especially in the lift. I wont go one floor up in a lift as I have a great fear of lifts let alone all that way up. Niagra Falls will be something as well. That is what we want to go and see sometime. It sounds like you are having a super time. And yes I can imagine what you both looked like squeezing through the turnstile together.
You mentioned that you will be missing some good shows, look at it like this, they will always be on again, the opportunity to go to Canada does not come up everyday.
Hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay. Lucky you.
    Love Jean X

Your blog brought back nice memories of my trips to Toronto. There are a lot of great restaurants but my fave is Bistro 990 which I always recommend if anyone asks – don’t know if you got there. It’s a lovely clean, friendly city and there’s so much to see. I’ve seen it in both summer and winter and if you’re impressed by Niagara Falls in the summer, you’ll just have to go back and see it in February when it partially freezes over and all the trees are coated in glass-like ice – beautiful!

    Hi Julia!
I hope you had a wonderful trip to New York – you are quite a globe-trotter these days!
Please can you tell me why on earth Dawn Bibby has moved to another channel? Dawn was, like yourself, a huge part of QVC and will be very much missed. I hate change and feel like I have lost another ‘friend’! Please give Ali K my best wishes, I know exactly what she is going through, but, like me, she WILL come out the other side healthy and well.
Best Wishes to you and your family.

    Hi Julia
OMG! Lucky you…first LA and now Toronto…you little globe trotter you! What a friend Jaynie is, I dread to think what the pair of you got up to, two tinkers together no doubt!
Must say, you are very brave walking on the glass floor of the CN Tower, not sure if I could do that. Got dizzy going up a couple of floors in a glass sided lift and stood facing the doors all the way, whilst Chris kept telling me to turn round and have a look… noooo thank you! Although, I notice you are actually on the join and hand resting on the wall…was the for balance or security LOL! Whatever it was, you would have had to walk over the glass to get there, well done you!
How on earth did you manage to eat whilst Colin Farrell was at the next table…I would have sat there drooling!
Hope you don’t get too wet from the spray of Niagra Falls, Chris went years ago and got soaked through. Funny, the Marilyn Monroe movie ‘Niagra’ was on the other week…love the fashion back then, very classy.
Have a good journey back and hopefully you’ll still be on a high on Tuesday!

    Hi Julia
You lucky girl, and why not. It is great to have friends like Jaynie, enjoy Niagra Falls it is also one of the things I have on my “to do” list. I don”t like heights like you but my husband made me go in the left to the top of one of the Twin Towers in New York about 18 years ago, and I was so glad I did.
Talking of being lucky, after I was told last week that I will have 6 weeks of radiothearapy from 8th of June, my husband booked for us to go on a cruise from Mallorca to the south of France and Italy from tomorrow (29th may) for one week, so I can relax before I start my treatment, Iam so looking forward to it.
Have a fab end to your trip in Canada.
    Much love.

    Hi Marian
You have just made me very envious – I think I need a Keeley facial too! She has fantastic ‘hands’ and then of course all the lovely Elemis products ….. a real treat!
Not sure if it was brave or stupid walking on the glass floor of the CN tower but wouldn’t have lived it down with Sophie if I hadn’t!
Hope you got all your planting finished

    Hi Jean
You are right – the QVC shows come round with a certain regularity but Canada might be a ‘once in a lifetime’ or not, who knows??
I am not good with lifts, I always take the stairs at QVC whenever possible, and this one had 2 glass panels in the floor – needless to say I didn’t stand on them and I didn’t look down! It went up so fast my ears popped like on an plane! Funny enough it was so bad once we actually got up there.
I will put up the Niagara pictures over the next couple of days

    Hi Nicola
It sounds like you are a big fan of Toronto – I thought the people were very friendly and genuine. We only had 1 day in Toronto itself so only made it to Sassifraz, but we were also recommended to try Sotto Sotto ….. do you know it?
I would definitely go again if the opportunity arose so thanks for the recommendation of Bistro 990 – is it in Yorksville?

    Hello Jeannie
I have been in Canada not New York ……….. don’t put ideas in my head, a visit to The Big Apple is long overdue, I haven’t been for years!
I can’t really comment on why Dawn has left QVC but I genuinely wish her all the best for her future and I will miss her at QVC. I know it can be unsettling when people move on to pastures new but sometimes change is the right thing for the individual concerned.
Ali is away in Spain for a few days respite before she continues with her treatment but I will pass on your kind wishes next time we speak. I am glad to hear that you have come through your ‘tough time’

    Hi Annette
You noticed – I may have been smiling for the camera but I was hanging on for dear life. Sophie reminded me that when she was on her school trip they were ‘clowning around’ and the beads on her bag broke and went skittering across the glass. Everyone made a dash for the solid floor as they thought the glass was shattering!!! So glad that didn’t happen when I was there.
We did get soaked at Niagara Falls but these days they provide you with some very ‘fetching’ blue plastic macs – photos to come!LOL!
Jaynie was the lucky one who had Colin Farrell right in her line of sight, all I could do was steal the odd surruptitious glance. This will make you laugh – Jaynie had taken off her high heels for the walk to and from the CN tower and put little flatties on instead. She was changing back into her high heels underneath the tablecloth just for the walk out of the restaurant!!!
    speak soon

    Hi Magda
I hope you are enjoying your cruise – you deserve it after all you’ve been through over the last couple of years, and all you still have to come.
When you are better persuade your hubbie to take you to Niagara Falls it is an experience not to be missed if the opportunity arises – and stay in Niagara on the Lake – really pretty!
    good luck with the treatment

    Hi Julia
We met at the winery near Niagara – it was such a lovely surprise to see you there. I hope you had as good a visit to the Toronto area as I had. Toronto is such a fabulous city and the ‘Torontonians’ are such friendly people don’t you think?
Thanks for making our visit so memorable.
    Kindest regards

    Hello Lynn
Glad to hear you got back safely and yes I do agree the Torontonians are lovely. I have popped ‘our’ picture up on my new blog along with some shots of the ‘falls’ – how impressive were they??
    Nice to meet you
