Homeless!!!!

As most of you probably know, QVC are on the move after nearly nineteen years at Marco Polo House, Battersea. We are moving to a new purpose built building in Chiswick and it's not a moment too soon really, as the old building has started to creak and groan a bit – metaphorically speaking.

We have known about the move for a couple of years and it's one of the reasons I sold my house eighteen months ago as I didn't fancy the commute from the Surrey village of Woldingham, where we used to live. We have been renting the house we are in now since then, but although it is a lovely house it was never really far enough to the west of London, and anyway it was too big for our needs when Sophie moved out in February.

So I gave our landlord two months' notice with the intention of moving by the end of April. Well that was the intention, but we simply didn't see anything that we particularly wanted to move into. Our landlord decided to put the house back on the market, which had always been his intention, but I didn't think it would sell quickly in the current market.

We had a few viewings in the first couple of weeks, that the Estate Agents conducted, but then we had a call asking if we could show some people around on Easter Monday, as the Estate Agents weren't working. No problem… except that now we DO have a problem as, using my sales skills honed over the last nineteen years I managed to sell the house!!!! Chris was not amused!

So suddenly we need to find somewhere to live pronto, and I guess it would help if I could be more decisive about an area! I'm sure something will turn up in the end… if not, has anyone got a spare room???

Have a lovely weekend, Julia xx

    Bless Julia!
We have a couple of spare rooms actually, well one, cos the other has my Pilates machine permanently out ….. oh and an Inversion table (great fun that!!) I also have loads of Elemis in the bathroom so you’d be right at home. Would be quite a commute for you though!!
Re the new eye serum, I use it on it’s own in the morning and use Pro Collagen Eye Renewal over it at night. I had the Pro Intense but Keeley said to stick on Eye Renewal for now so I just do as I’m told …. well, sometimes anyway!!
Really made me giggle, you managing to sell the house like that. Can’t say as I’m surprised really!
Twilight is about vampires …. and werewolfs. I know it sounds weird but I’m totally engrossed. Think I’ll probably finish the last book this weekend. Makes me sort of wish I could become a vampire …….. get to stay young forever!! And that’s without any Elemis!!
    Lots of love

Oh my dear Julia, I have just found myself in the same situation. fortunatley, we do have a place to live but it is infinately smaller than our previous home so consequently it is like putting a pint into a half pint pot. The bungalow we have moved into has been completely refurbished so is like a new build, but at the moment it is so full of stuff, it is like living in ‘cardboard box city’ We had lived in our previous house for 25 years so it was quite a wrench to leave, but having an elderly Mum, we had to be nearer. However, my heart goes out to you, good luck with your search. Regards Cindy (third cardboard box from the front door!)

    Hi Julia
I’ve had problems leaving comments on presenters blogs for the last few weeks hence the reason for my lack of commentsxx Although moving home and business is high on the stress levels, it is also very exciting – new home, new office and maybe new friends to be madexx I hope you and the family get somewhere to live near Chiswick and, because i know you love it,manage to get a great garden tooxx I’m currently loving the new Elemis eye treatment- Keeleys last tsv was fabulous – she always does us proud with the content and value of her tsvs – and – i loved the vanity bag too,i ended up with four. I’m looking forward to Emma Hardie’s tsv tonight at midnight – i’ve just watched Ali Youngs teaser on QGossip and love love love this selection of products in the tsv – so many full sizes – i cant wait as i’ve said before i will never be without her Moringa Balm, however i am enjoying using the Elemis gel cleanser too. Look after yourselfx I hope the move goes smoothlyx Love Linda,Glasgowxx

    Hi Julia,
Did put up a few posts to you but the gremlins eat them. I do hope you find somewhere you like, you should not be such a good sales person. If you cannot find anywhere you will have to bed down at QVC, they have plenty of lovely luxury bedding. Been some lovely shows on lately, the latest Lola Rose collection is gorgeous, such lovely designs each time, and the colours are something else. Anyway hope this goes through and good luck with your house hunting, a bit cold for a tent at the moment.
    Love Jean X

    Hi Julia
I wish my selling skills were as good as yours, maybe next time we get a viewing, I’ll get you to come up here to work your magic LOL!
It’s really nice here in sunny north Shropshire (at the moment, anyway!), but I think the commute would be asking too much.
I hope you manage to find the place of your dreams and that both moves, home and QVC goes smoothly and you don’t get stressed with it all. Easy to say, I know…we may look calm on the outside, but inside!
I’m just about to send you a quick email with the photos as promissed.

Hi Julia, hope you are well!! life takes us in strange directions doesnt it. Know how you feel, but need help in my life as well!! After 25 years of living in the same home bringing up children and dogs, we are now thinking of selling up and moving to something smaller here and putting money also into something small on the other side of the world where one of our off spring lives and is about to become a parent himself! Will give us more choices of spending time in both places when we retire in a few years time. I know and want this, but still finding it hard to let go of what i have been used to.Am i being stupid or have other people felt like this as well. How did you cope when selling your home of 16 years? Lots of feedback needed please!! jan x

    Hello Pauline
Thanks for the offer of the spare room but I will not be needing it as we have managed to find somewhere to live. It is not in Chiswick, but it is ten minutes closer than we are presently so we are inching further west gradually.

Sounds like I would be right at home at your place with a Pilates machine AND loads of Elemis – you are right though, I think the commute would have been a killer.
Nor sure I would like to be a vampire ….. they don’t get out in the sun much do they?!?!

I hope you have managed to unpack a few more cardboard boxes since you posted? I am waiting for mine to arrive from the removal company so that I can start packing …… again!
We are still not really downsizing too much, but 1 less bedroom than the current place so getting there gradually

    Hi Kathy
We have found somewhere and it is to rent again as I didn’t want to be rushed into buying. It is ten minutes closer to Chiswick than we currently are so a slightly better commute!
I have a couple of weeks planned for a trip to Spain in July – I’ll need it after all this moving house and workplace.

    Hi Yvie
That’s not a bad suggestion, I just didn’t have time to go looking after selling my landlord’s house so quickly! You’ll have to write to me with a few suggestions of nice villages to have a look at.
Kathy is out that way, but I think Simon is more Northampton way?
    I await your suggestions

    Hi Alana
Unbelievably I have still managed to do a bit of writing while house hunting!! Sorry for the delay in finishing but I have added and unexpected chapter. Hopefully won’t be too long now.
What did you think of the Tiana B maxi? I really liked the black one.
Also looking forward to the B & W TSV – lucky your trip to Rome is the next day
    Have a great time

    Hi Linda
Good to hear from you again now that the nasty computer gremlins have gone! …… it was exasperating wasn’t it????
Well we have found a new house and it does have a lovely garden – you are right, that is a bit of a priority for me! It is only short term though while I get my act together and decide where we are next going to buy.
I hope you are liking the Melting Cleansing Gel? I love it and am using only that, or EH Moringa Balm ( twice a week ) as my morning cleanser.

    Hi Jean
At least the weather has warmed up a bit so your suggestion of a tent would have been OK!!! – fortunately though we have found somewhere to move into so now it is just down to the packing and remembering all the people we need to tell about a change of address!
And yes, finally the gremlins seem to be allowing us to resume communicating which each other!

    Hi Annette
Maybe I should become an Estate Agent when I retire from QVC?????
I did get your email and intended to reply BUT my iPad only stores emails for a few days so I will reply from my work computer when am in tomorrow. Just to say though I think it was a lovely idea.
The house we are moving into will only be for a few months but it will give me the push I need to make my mind up on where we are going to buy.
Thankfully not feeling too stressed at the moment

    Hi Jan
It is always difficult to let go of what you have been used to for a long time BUT change is good and it is actually quite nice to look back a remember the good times and conveniently forget some of the not so great times.
We have been having a real ‘throw out of rubbish’ this time round and it is amazingly cathartic.
When we do buy again I am tempted to get rid of ALL our old furniture and start a new page!
Go for it Jan – it will be the best decision you ever made

Hi Julia, I watched your last show on Wednesday/Thursday TSV with the pearls, I am also a June birthday the pearls are my favourite. I don’t envy you moving as we moved house last year.
I will admit to shedding a few tears last night myself watching you as I watched your first show I remember the blue jacket.
Onwards and upwards as they say.
I have been thinking of the other presents in the early years, can you tell me the name of the one that used to be on a Friday evening at 5pm with the Fashion show, she used to sing as well had a lovely voice.
Good luck for looking for your new home, you never loose your children Julia they still call around to see you.
