Home grown dinner, village fete and Lauren’s 21st birthday

9

Home grown dinner Well the fruits of the summer’s toil have been coming to ….well, fruition …or ‘salad-ition'. This week I had a lovely dinner mostly from the garden – home grown everything, apart from the cheese and salad cream! Lol.

I must say the potatoes were utterly lovely. I've just gone out and plucked another two – larger ones – from the tubs for dinner today. They're in the oven roasting as I type. Soil to plate within two hours! Yum!!

I've been making homemade jam again this year too, although the first batch of blackberry came out more like puree – not enough pectin! At least the girls in the office at work have liked it on their yogurt (Easiyo of course!) I did resort to going over to the Wotton Fete at the weekend – lovely weather for them thank goodness. My fave bit is the little display of classic cars.

Puppy in basket Well the pups took me for a walk around that field I can tell you! They loved meeting so many new people and most of them loved them. Apart from jumping up at a poor lady in lovely white trousers. Well, they were white before Daisy and Gracie got to them.

When we came back, Daisy reprieved herself by being majorly cute and curling up in the baby bath we bought to wash them in. She fits it end to end and fell fast asleep. Sooooo cute!!

Actually I’ll have to compare photos in that bath as they grow – see how long they fit inside it before it gets too small. What’s the cutest or strangest place your dogs have slept in? Is your pic on facebook?

Lauren's 21!

Debbie and Lauren For those that recall my little girl appearing on air all those years ago, it might surprise you to hear she’s actually 21 on Monday!

She went back to uni on Wed 1st, returns for her party, then off she goes again to her third year and final year at uni finishing her commercial music degree. This year she’s in Bath. Lovely place – déjà vu for me though, cos that’s where Bradley went.

Their new house has just been refurbished so it’s all pristine at the moment. Six students later though, I wonder how it will look! She’s all excited about going back, bless her. I'll you some party news next week. We’re planning to hire one of those Gladiator inflatable things where you knock each other off a podium. Should be fun. Pray for good weather for me on Sunday 5th!

I’m off for much of the next week so it’ll be great to have a rest and get on with my writing. The deadline’s looming for my next writing course. I've written over 20,000 words now and am quite pleased so far.

I'm still trying to decide the ending of this first story though – should it be a sudden mercy dash to a hospital (in true Mills and Boon fashion) which brings the two lovers back together again? Or should it be a major declaration of love in a sports stadium in front of thousands of people? Hmmm… I'll have to decide soon!

Have a great week!

Luv debs

P.S. In the spirit of the recent funnies, here’s another clip – this time from the tea time Centigrade hour with the lovely fashion expert Glenn Campbell having a silly moment with our Claire!  I always enjoy being on with Glenn especially when he gets a bit cheeky!

    Hi again, Debs.
My boxers are exactly the same as your dogs; it is so embarrassing when they wipe their muddy paws on someone’s clean clothes. Most people are quite accepting of it – they’re only being friendly, after all, – but you do get the odd ones with faces like thunder and you feel like “get a life!”.
Do you make your jam manually or using a machine? It’s not something I’ve ever had a go at.
I do admire you writing a novel, believing you can do it. I’m not into fiction, but I would like to have a go at writing a factual tome, maybe about my home town of Workington in Cumbria. Another subject I’m extremely au fait with is epilepsy, having been epileptic since I was 3 months old. They do say to write about what you know, so maybe…….
I would appreciate any advice. It;s just making that decision to do it, and the self belief, I suppose.
Well, keep well, and have a nice weekend.
    Louise.

Lol when you said “when I’m a grownup” in your video clip.
I say that all the time and I turn 50 next year! Guess it keeps
us young. Anyway great to hear your veg proved so tasty this year. Have you tried courgettes, they seem to grow before your
very eyes and certainly worth the space they take up. Nige

Hi Louise! I’d start by saying sounds like your boxers are a handful like my pogs! Poor Gracie’s drawn the short straw with her hips tho – see this week’s new blog.
Re jam – easy peasy – with relevant fruit (eg blackberries, carefully washed!) – and sugar with pectin already in it! Well I say easy – that’s if you get the quantities right! lol.
Re novel – there are some great ‘how to’ books online – if it’s factual I’m not too sure about a recommendation, as the ones I could recommend are all for romances – but I’d say just jot down some notes and go from there. See what ‘comes out’ – it’s when you get into flow that the magic happens. It’s the ‘getting into flow in the first place’ that so many writers find hard! My best times for writing are late at night – last night I went to bed at 5 after a late finish here, so whatever works for you – just get some words on the page. And don’t edit as you go along – get it all out, THEN go back and edit another time. Apparently, as I found out in a fab writing weekend at york festival in April, your right brain does the creating, and editing happens in left brain, so it’s good to stay in one zone rather than flip flop in and out – that works for me anyway! Good luck!
And in the words of a famous author (can’t remember who!) – the best advice for someone who wants to write is….. just write!
best wishes and give the boxers a hug!

Marg – Susan – thanks so much for your kind wishes! It was a lovely day – watch the video and you’ll get an insight!
Nigel – not tried courgettes but maybe next year. Although my next round of marrows may suffer from some weird white stuff that’s appeared on a lot of the leaves lately – boo! Just had a fab dinner of runner beans, spuds and carrots plus some cabbage – the little that survived the butteflies this year! More nets next year methinks – or grow somethign else! At least I did my bit for the bird population eh!
