Holiday reading and more…

View from the hotelHello!

There’s a real chill in the air as I write this blog – I think it’s time to admit defeat, put the sandals away and get the winter boots out! Never mind, we’ve had a good run of it this year with the weather, and I was lucky enough to get away for a final blast of sunshine last week to keep me going through the winter.

My lovely hubby and I zoomed off to Gran Canaria for a week, somewhere I haven’t been since I was a teenager. We stayed in a lovely hotel in the hills just outside Maspalomas – the views (left) were stunning, and it was so incredibly quiet and peaceful – heaven!

My stack of booksI’ve been crazy busy for the past few months so my aim for this trip was to relax, eat and drink far too much and READ. I’m such a bookworm but I never have time to read at home, so on holiday I read voraciously.

And for me, it’s the old-fashioned way. I haven’t gone down the Kindle route yet, so a large section of my suitcase was filled with books, a frothy mix of chick lit, crime and psychological thrillers.

And yes, I did read them all in a week! Of this lot, my favourites were J K Rowling’s "The Casual Vacancy" (so different from her Harry Potter series!) and "Alys, Always" by Harriet Lane. I recommend both if you need a good read!

It was a lovely week but I didn’t mind getting back to work. I absolutely love presenting fashion hours and the changing season means we have loads of great autumn/winter fashion to show you in the next few weeks, as well as TONS of Christmas stuff! It’s very weird for me to be surrounded by Christmas stuff at work in October, but as Christmas at QVC starts in July, I’m going to have to get used to it!

People who’ve worked here for years don’t think it’s odd at all anymore, and even I don’t bat an eyelid now when I see people walking past pushing trolleys full of light-up snowmen and Christmas trees with three months still to go before the big day. I think working at QVC makes you go a teeny bit bonkers!

Now, in my previous blog I showed you a peep behind the scenes as we made a promo film in my house in Gloucestershire for the new QVC show "At Home with Jackie". Well, it’s finished, and you can see the finished product below! This will be running on QVC soon, and the next show will be on Monday 21st October at 4pm. This one will be all about the kitchen/dining room so expect some great table decoration tips as well as some yummy food! Do join me then if you can.

    Hi Jackie,
It sounds as if you had a great holiday, plenty of relaxing and nice food. Wow you certainly did some reading, that is something I must do more of, I never seem to be able to relax enough at home to read for long. I must make myself as I want to finish Julia’s book and there are more waiting.
I really enjoyed the fashion show’s, my favourite had to be Yong Kim, I love her design’s, get tempted each time she is on, but that is what it is all about.
Yes you are right, put away the Summer clothes, out with the Jumpers and warm Emu’s. What an awful thought that winter is upon us, I love the dry cold sunny day’s, not that we will get many more of them, hate the damp dark day’s when you feel the sky is on your head. And the dark morning’s and evening’s, I am lucky I work at home but for people who have to travel too and from work in the dark is not nice.
Watched your video of your promotion at your home and looking forward to watching the programme, you have a lovely home from what I saw in the video, but that is what we all work for isn’t it. That is the one where you made/bought the lovely sponge. Love the shoes by the way, gorgeous colour.
Enjoy the early Christmas at QVC, mind you it is not long now is it, it is creeping up on us.
    Take care and speak soon.
    Love Jean X

    Hi Jean,
Great to hear from you as always! You should try and find time to finish Julia’s book if you can, it really is very good. Working at home must be good especially in bad weather. I’ve done it a bit in the past….only problem for me was staying away from the biscuit cupboard! Have a lovely week.
    Love Jackie xx
