A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE…
It was lovely last weekend to have my lovely Lollipop back home for the weekend, with boyfriend Nick. She’s now a fully fledged grown up, but in the clichéd way you hear people say it, it seems like yesterday she was a little baby. In the above pic she’s only a couple of months old, and she’s now 22!
When I left QVC first time round – the NIGHT I left QVC, in fact – my garage sadly burnt down, and along with it, most of the photos and videos from when my kids were small. So imagine how delighted I was that mum found a couple of boxes of pre-2000 pics of my family, and also of me and my brothers and sister as kids. Hooray! This are just a few of the many I thought I’d show you. How funny! I’m the oldest of five, and now the line up of siblings looks a lot different as I’m second smallest! Am about to start archiving them all – using one of our scanners – Mat Trim would be proud!
OMG I had to tell you this week about a reeeeeally funny youtube video that’s gone viral (ie. loads of people are talking about it on the net and in the papers etc!) Called Jesus Christ in Richmond Park – a dog called Benton, being chased by his posh owner, shouting "Oh God" and the like, running after a herd of deer! It has hit the headlines, had well over a million views and has already spawned several witty send ups – always a sign of popularity! Having four dogs, this really tickled me! Especially having had similar experiences where they just…won't…come…back! (I'm pleased to say only when chasing other dogs, not herds of deer!)
You must watch it, and then have a look at some of the other send ups, including a ‘mash up’ called Benton Streisand, which features a funny dog ‘sleep running’, hilarious in itself, particularly the end where he wakes up and tries to flee! And also, the very clever ‘Benton In London’, where they overlay the soundtrack on top of a scene from American Werewolf in London – soooo funny! I love these – it’s what the internet was made for! That and buying stuff.
By the way, the QVC UK i-Phone app has an update which now shows you the TV guide, as well as allowing you to watch qvc live – do remember to download the free update from the app store!
Do you recall a blog post last year where I put a clip of Daisy the escaping Labrador jumping over a small fence? Well this week, the whole image came back to haunt me, when I found out how she’d started getting out of their pen once more. In fact, I even had a text when I was in Monaco saying she’d been out down the lane! Narrowing it down, I ended up realising that she’s got such strong hind legs now that she’s found a novel way of embarking upon yet another walkabout…watch this…
But she’s so cute and delightful at other times, I’ll just have to make the fence higher! Didn't realise a dog could scale such a high pen though – have you ever come across anything like it?!
WATCH – the classic film The Butterfly Effect (2004)
Have finally spent some time at home this week! Actually done some washing! Lol. And seen some cool films. Oh my goodness have you ever watched a film and it’s had such an impact on you that you keep thinking about it for days afterwards? That’s what makes a top film for me. And one of my all-time top ten high-scoring films was on TV this week – The Butterfly Effect. So I just had to watch it again. Now if you follow me on facebook you’ll probably be aware of my comments about my favourite types of film, and that anything to do with time travel has a head start! ‘Frequency’, for instance, is another of my faves for the same reason (and for Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel but that’s another story!). And Groundhog Day, is another, natch! So imagine a tale where you CAN go back in time and change history – change something – one little thing. What would the knock on effect be on the rest of your life?
That's what Ashton Kutcher goes through in this film (pre-Demi Moore betrayal – I'm Team Demi all the way!). His acting is superb though, in this film, as are the performances of everyone else in it – without exception. The plot is excellent, and it kept me guessing about the ending - it's so random it could be anything. Yet there's enough romance and action and powerful effects to keep you utterly hooked from start to end. There’s a bit of a 'retribution' theme too, which is equally as satisfying. But I think it was the sheer heart-pounding I felt virtually throughout, of an intensity that’s very rare, that makes me give this film a whopping nine and a half! Amazing! Highly recommended on DVD. Let me know what you think. And if you have seen it, add a comment below if you know of any other movies along the same lines which YOU could recommend to ME!
P.S. Has anyone seen 'Crazy Stupid Love'? I missed it at the cinema recently. If so, what did you think?
I have to recommend a fab restaurant this week, if you love burgers! And no, it’s not ‘that’ fast food burger place! (Despite the threats from my dinner buddy that that was exactly where he was going to take me next!) As it happens, it was my shout anyway and I used (yet!) another Groupon voucher to treat my pal Jonny to a meal at the Chelsea branch of Henry J Beans. I’d just done my three hours on air straight, on Tuesday – featuring beauty (TSV ego straightener), fab coats, then sparkling diamonique – so I was STARVING!
The burger was blinking delicious – well worth waiting for! Curly fries made it for me (far too many to finish them all) and we had a choice of a pitcher of cocktails thrown in too. There are others around the country, including York and Manchester, so if you want a casual but tasty evening out somewhere, do try it! There’s one in Wimbledon too, for which I also have a voucher to use up before next week, just need to decide whom to go with now!
This from Kirsteen, a pal of mine in Aberdeen, on email. It’s from a wide range of ‘brain and body teasers’ or teambuilding tasks, which sometimes produce surprising results – can you defeat the odds and do it?!
HOW SMART IS YOUR RIGHT FOOT?
It takes 2 seconds. I could not believe it. It is from an orthopaedic surgeon and it will confuseyour mind and you will keep trying over and over again to see if you can outsmart your foot, but, you can't. It is pre-programmed in your brain!
1. While sitting at your desk in front of your computer, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles.
2. Now, while doing this, draw the number '6' in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction.
I told you so! And there's nothing you can do about it! You and I both know how stupid it is, but before the day is done you are going to try it again, if you've not already done so.
Send it to your friends to frustrate them too.
(actually I did manage to do it, not sure how, but it worked! Do you know any others like this?)
Finally a couple of highlights for the next week – am thrilled to tell you that we’ll be bringing you a whole range of xmas gift ideas this weekend – (26th/27th) – from Lily O'Brien chocolates (including on Saturday at 4pm with me – hard job eh! Lol), to another set of those handy little LED torches Gabrielle brought us last year, so good for stocking fillers (join me Sunday night at midnight, 27th/28th).
Big TSVs – Bose on Fri/Saturday and a great value 7-piece set from Bare Escentuals on Sunday through the day. And don’t forget the latest CD appearances – Westlife, Twiggy, Joe McElderry again, and the amazing Il Divo, who have a brand-new album out, and appeared on QVC with the lovely Ali Keenan on Thursday evening.
Then next week, watch out for something special on QVC – and a first for me! I’m giving you some insider information! 'I will say zis only wernce'! On Wednesday 30th, in my 10pm-12am Trespass show, there will be a one-off (you know what I’m saying here!) chance to buy a fabulous deal, and I’m being allowed to warn you about it! There’s a first!
It’s a super soft but warm set of two – TWO! – fleeces from Trespass, like this lilac one I’m wearing, in the pic above, which comes in a pack with a black full zip up one. It’ll be 148256 and the price will be available only on that show. Thing is, it’ll be a one off, temporary price – you GET MY MEANING!! :-) - of less than £15 – for two! Two! So pleeeeease put it in your diary to join me then, if you can, so that you don’t miss out on a superb gift-giving opportunity from the lovely micro-fleece specialists – so warm for the colder weather apparently on its way! Have you ever tried Trespass?
Oh and sorry about the lack of pics from Lee Hohbein’s birthday bash – Craig will have to fill you in on that one! Hehe!
Next week, I’m hoping to bring you news of my upcoming night out at a burlesque place in Camden! Should be interesting! And the annual family girls day out, xmas shopping in London…
Anyway – have a great week, and don’t forget to leave me a comment – whomever you are!
