2014 has snuck up and sidled on in, hasn't it? Almost like an uninvited guest! It's welcomed by so very many of us and I've heard lots of phrases like: "It' ll be great to close the door on 2013" and "can't wait to see the back of 2013".
I think for many of us, the inevitable reflection on the past year is hard and somehow things seem so highlighted on that last day of the year.
Did you achieve anything in 2013? Will you achieve anything in 2014? What will actually be in store? Plus, of course, the inevitable "oh my goodness me…ANOTHER year of my life has GONE!!"
How did you feel when you heard those chimes and the kissing and chinking of bubbly filled glasses ensued? Did you put yourself to bed early, refusing to allow the new year such importance in your life? Or did you celebrate with a positive mind set?
Our family cottage, in North Yorkshire, is a place where my heart is firmly rooted and is totally a home-from-home. It's been our family bolt hole for 40 years and reconnects me with my Northern roots every time… a slight northern twang returns the moment we arrive!
We laughed lots and walked loads, I have NOW bought walking boots (yes I know horse and bolted springs to mind)! My wellies coped admirably, but my calf muscles did not!
This year we decided to dress eachother up from the vast array of charity shops, with our long suffering children in tow! Responsible for another's 'look', we set about trying to find the worst possible outfits for each other!
You've guessed it, the kids decided that Daddy just had to become… Mummy! There was so much laughter as they insisted on blindfolding us and doing the big reveal… not quite the kind of reveal Dan chose to do (honestly put a man in a dress and…).
I think the charity shops were mystified when we returned our bags of clothes the following day! Still, having a lot of fun and helping charities too always works in my book!
As we started The Ingleton Waterfall Walk on New Year's Day it was already torrentially raining and the "we must be mad " comments had been bandied around – alongside a fair few hurrumphs from Tom and Harry (our friends' eldest, a 13 year old).
I was rather relieved that the mobile service was poor up there so I missed the call from my well meaning Mother telling me there are at least two deaths a year at the waterfalls… yikes!
Day two was another five hour hike in the glorious sun… and wind! The light that day was amazing and I managed to capture a little of the beauty of the Dales – as you can see in the photo at the top.
When we reached the Cross the family shot was taken as proof we did it, I am in there under that hair, honestly!! Boy oh boy Chaz Dean you
are my saviour, you and my trusty Tangle Teaser! Oh, and guess what?
The man himself will be back on your screens with me on Sunday 19th Jan at 4pm explaining the magnificence of his incredible WEN hair Care system – I'm a huuuuuuuge fan.
I'll tell you what else I found a joy that week, and that is our current Beauty Pick of the Month - the Radiance Mask from Gatineau.
I was bare-faced and au naturel mostly but I layered this beautiful mask on like Billio. I actually felt younger and more vital – yes, of course, that's cos I actually moved my bottom and had fresh air (lots of it)!
But seriously, I highly recommend, it can slot so simply alongside any range you're using.
Maddie looks such a little girl here, full of love for the new dolly she had asked Father Christmas for, and then Mrs Fashionista with her new clothes!
Talking of fashionista! Tom asked Father Christmas for cool clothes?! I think he achieved his wish! Not to mention aftershave! Big boy… though still my little youngster as he suddenly started to do a puppet show with 'Woody'. He loves an audience… not sure who he gets that from!
So all in all a smashing Christmas and New Year. Resolutions for this year… do you know I'm not really sure making any big decisions is what I shall do?
Though LLBG is a motto to hold:
LAUGH LOTS & BE GRATEFUL (a good plan I think).
As always I love to hear back from you and really look forward to chatting with you all.
With my love and hopes for you all to enjoy a splendid and healthy New Year,
