Here comes the spring. Bye bye bleak midwinter!

Hi everyone. Well, I think I may have broken a personal record for the longest time between blogs but life is like that, isn't it? Thank you for all of your lovely comments and for spurring me back into action.

The wintertime is always a funny time of year, a little bittersweet in my view. The run-up to Christmas is always so very exciting and has me in a child-like state of ecstatic bliss every year. Then there's the New Year celebrations and the anticipation of all that a new year will hold for us.

After that has all died down there seems to be nothing to look forward to except cold, dark days, less socialising due to tightened pursestrings, post festivity, and I think many of us can suffer a touch of the blues during this time. I think I hibernated a little this year but it's definitely time to make a reappearance, so here I am! What's more, so are the daffodils and the promise of Easter time, chocolate and brighter days.

Many people have asked me how I slimmed down in recent months. My apologies if I never directly answered you but it was initially due to loss of appetite and stress after my ex-partner, Steve, and I decided to part ways. After the weight dropped off I decided it would be a good idea to try and keep it off through healthy eating and exercise. I was feeling pretty good on it but the bad eating habits and sofa surfing have returned and I can feel my mood changing, too.

I've made up my mind to do something about it. We have a 'Zumba' (the latest dance fitness craze) Today's Special Value offer coming up in a few weeks time so I am going to begin working out with that. Fitness Goddess, Rosemary Conley, was on QVC's Morning Show last week and I bought her book and DVD set so I'm going to make a start on those too, and get healthy in body and bash away the winter blues!

Sometimes it just doesn't matter how much you tell yourself you have to be grateful for, it's all relative and we all have our peaks and troughs. It's what we do about it once we realise we're down in the trough that matters.

I say here's to springtime and sunshine. Let's hope it's plentiful and arrives quick-smart!

All my love,

Catherine xx

    Hi Catherine.
Glad you’re back. I thought Steve and you were no longer together as you indicated last time you replied to me.
I know what you mean about the winter blues this winter has been really long. I think it’s because we had really bad snow early on.I did have something to cheer me up- I became a Grandmother in November to a Gorgeous Granddaughter Lily Connie(she has my late Mum’s name as her middle name)she was 9lbs 3ozs!! I know you’ll be chuffed for me.
Those Zumba classes are very good, alot of work colleagues go and you can see the weight dropping off!
Can you believe it’s 2 years next week I had my car accident-so much has happened in those 2 years hasn’t it?
Keeping you updated on Lexi-she’s alot better. We’ve changed her food again and is on daily medication-so fingers crossed.
Glad you’re feeling a little better, keep your chin up and speak soon.
    Take care
    Julie xx

    Hi Catherine
I’m sorry you haven’t been feeling so good recently and can understand exactly how you feel. I suffer with ‘the winter blues’ every year and as a comfort eater and seasoned yo yo dieter I put on weight really quickly and when you feel down in the dumps it’s very difficult not to self medicate with food. I can be good for ages and then just as people start to notice and say “have you lost weight” I’m often struggling to stay in control and beginning to put it back on which adds pressure.
However, I find a few months taking St Johns Wort and the brighter warmer weather really helps to turn my mood around and be more optimistic. I can also recommend books by Rhonda Byrne which focus on the power of positive thinking. It takes practice but I’m getting there.
I hope you feel better really soon and wish you a much happier future, and to quote a famous musical ” The sun’ll come out tommorow”
    Big hug

    Hi catherine
    Nice to hear from you.
Hibernating from October through to April is my plan for the future. Its been AWFUL the last few months. i hate the bleakness of it all. Roll on spring and summer, as you say!
Nothing wrong with a good old lounging on the sofa moment, specially if its accompanied with a lovely box of chocolates! Im sure these calories will be lost in all the running around you do.
    love una x

Hi you are looking fabulous Catherine and I am loving your change in hairstyle too. Is this extensions or are you using any of the hair pieces that QVC sell – if so which ones?

    Hi Catherine
Great to see your blog and to know that you are doing great. Sorry to hear about having to part way, but never mind life will bring you happy times always, we all do have to carry a cross sometimes. You look great and that is what matter. Like you i had the weight dropped of during January due to stomach truble and not being able to eat, but during February put some back on, but in March the doctor found a lump in my breast and I was so worried the weight started to drop of again, and now Iam diagnosed with breast cancer God help me. I can see Ali is going through the same, and reading her blog give me hope.
What will we do without you at QVC, you are like family to us now.
    Much love.

Sorry to hear about you and ur partner spilting up, i was in the same boat in Oct last year and im stil trying to sort out the property etc, yes i have good and bad days and think of giving up and wondering if i should just sell up and move away but soon come back to reality!!!!!
Anyway its nice to see you back on our screens and have been promtid to do something with my hair after seeing you with lovely long hair and a fab figure, i lost weight after the split and have been looking at the fab range of dressses that QVC do, im not normally a dress wearer so this year im going to burst into spring with some colour and a new look.
Hope everything goes well with you and in what ever you venture into, please keep us updated with your blog, and best wishes for the furture.
P.s i wonder if you can answer a question for me, a while ago QVC had a Lulu Guinnes handbag item no 145900, been looking forward to seeing it on the website but it has dissapeared from the website, i did email customer service ages ago but never heard anything. thanks

Hello Catherine, I’m glad your back !!!Even though we see you through a tv screen I knew something must have happened to you, your usual sparkle had faded, something was missing.I have spent a good part of last year in hospitals, first my daughter was very ill (we very nearly lost her)then my dad got sick, and he passed away just before Xmas.I thought 2011 has got to be better, but NO!!!!my husband was rushed to hospital in a great deal of pain with his appendix!!I have been feeling a bit sorry for myself as you do,but looking at the news today about those poor people in Japan,I realized that I have so much to be grateful for.Whatever life throws at us we have no choice but to deal with things and HANG ON IN THERE GIRL!!I wish you all the very best. best wishes yviexx

Hi Catherine, just read your blog for the first time. Dont read many. I’m so sorry to hear about your partner and you, but as you’re a fan of Louise Hay (as am I ) then I know you’ll now be on the up and up. I like your presentations, sometimes I see (hear) a younger me, Especially when you mention metaphysical things (crystal meanings and the like) – any way I’m rambling, just to say very very best wishes for what I know will be your bright future.- keep on trucking gal !

    Hello Catherine,
I already thought you stopped writing your blog on QVC as I haven’t read anything from you in the last weeks. I always enjoy your blog although I have never left you a comment. I am sorry you and your ex-partner have parted, but I hope you are o.k.. I wondered, if something had happened because your looks changed a lot (for the better of course!!) and that is often the sign of a break-up. I hope everything works out for you and I wish all the best. Virginia

    Hello Catherine,
Have missed your blogs and am sorry about the troubles you hae had. Must say that you have been looking fabulous lately. I take it you have had some extensions in your hair as it seemed to grow dramatically overnight!! You must tell us how you managed to burn the brussel sprouts on xmas day you mentioned on one programme. I’m not sure you really need zumba classes (or spanx)as you look in fine shape on tv bearing in mind that it always puts weight on. I will get those present to qvc for you, claire & ali k i promised (got a bit tied up myself with family). Hope the cats are all ok now also.

I was sorry to hear of your trouble last year but hope things are getting better for you & the family (including the cats). Saw you had some problems on xmas day (How does someone ‘burn’ brussel sprouts)???. You are looking fabulous lately having lost some weight (not that you really needed to of course). I’m sure you dont need the ‘spanx’ but the ‘zumba’ classes will be fun. Hope all is well for the future and i will make an effort to get the presents for you, Claire & Ali K to qvc that i spoke about on twitter.Hope all the cats are ok & settled into their new home.

Dearest Catherine, I’m so sorry you’ve been having a sad time. I hope your darling felines have helped you through just like mine did when I went through a similar experience 12 years ago. Though I was so very sad at the time – having been married to my first love for 8 years, I have to say I have never been happier with my new husband, Chris – we’ve been married eight years in May. You will be happy again, you’re far too beautiful and nice a person to be otherwise for long. xxx

    Hi Catherine
Nice to see you back, but so sorry to read that you and Steve had parted…there is nothing worse for appetite. I can remember my Pontin’s days, meeting, getting engaged, then splitting up, whilst still working together. I only ate apples, yogurt and toast, all I felt like and didn’t realise the weight had dropped off, until I went home and Mum opened the door and burst into tears…later telling me that I looked as if I’d been starved to death… I had gone to under 7 1/2 stone, even the old uniform skirt waist sitting on my hips didn’t make me realise…not the healthiest way to loose weight, but Mum soon fed me up again!
We spoke a few times on the Diet Chef blog, but since then I have had surgery for a dislocated ankle and broken leg in 2 places…didn’t do anything exotic to cause the injury…slipped on some moss, of all things. That was last October and have since been told that because the ankle is moving as it should I may have to have the steel work out again… Julia encouraged me to try the AeroPilates machine and it has helped tremendously, so hopefully when I see the consultant next month I will have done enough to improve the movement and not have to go through all that again.
Afraid the weight I had lost with DC came back on again, after 6 weeks of leg in plaster and non-weight bearing, but now working hard through diet and pilates to loose it again!
So nice to see you back blogging again Catherine…new hair, new you…we’ve all done it LOL!

Good to have your blog back Catherine – you have been missed but understandably so under the circumstances. Sorry to hear about your split but everything happens for a reason I believe. I totally agree with you about hibernating as I always seem to suffer a little with the winter blues. I deal with it by taking a week at a time and as I work 2 days a week try and have something to do or look forward to most other days be it going to the gym and treating myself to the luxury of going in the spa area after to meeting a friend for coffee or another friend who I go to matinees at our local theatre. Must say it makes the weeks fly by and here we now are spring almost here.
You have really wetted my appetite in mentioning the Zumba TSV can’t wait for that. As I mentioned I am a member of a gym but we don’t have a Zumba class there yet although there is one in my village but don’t feel like spending another £4 a week on top pf gym subscription. OOO so excited – any hints as to when it will be on air?

    Hello Catherine
I`m delighted to see you are back with your blog again, and just look how many other viewers have missed `talking `with you.
You ,( and Dawn) , have both been through it lately
It can`t be easy to go on air and wax lyrical about a carpet sweeper or a pillow , when you are having such upheavals at home — however thank goodness for Handbags!!
Your number one fan , Bobbie May is still an ardent Kipling collector –thankfully for my bank balance, she has not yet discovered Lulu Guinness.
Bobbie May was excited to see you were doing an OJON hour last week. Her hair is about the same length as yours now , and Ojon is superb for her. I think I heard Marie Francoise say she used it too.
Take care ,yes you look lovely , but there is always a need for chocolate ,
all our good wishes , Angela and Bobbie May

    Hi Catherine,
Great to hear from you! We’ve all missed you as you can see!!! I left you a message on your last blog to say how stunning you are looking…as always I may add though. I loved your dress you wore for the Red Carpet event!!! I am so sorry about you and Steve. It really has been an awful winter for a lot of us hasn’t it. I agree with the other blogger who says about remembering the Japanese and for that matter, the Kiwis too. W’re very lucky in that respect. But I also agree with other and our Ali K, for saying, “It’s all relative”. A favourite saying of mine. I truly believe it. I hope you are getting/have got help if you need it for the mood. I know the gorgeous Claire said on her blog she had used acupuncture when she had depression last year. We all fall foul to it sometimes. Luckily lots of us now appreciate it is not a weakness, but a sign of the times and lives we’re struggling with. The terrible dark cols snowy winter we’ve had, coupled with financial worries, jobs etc and not having the money to get away, all take it’s toll. You take good care.

    Hi Catherine,
As a presenter you are second to none – fluent, clear, articulate and accurate in your descriptions -apart from looking stunning and a pleasure to watch. A break up is awful-I know- but we couldn’t have guessed from your continued professionalism. You are a great example to your children by showing them that you can hold up your head and put on a show despite the distress and anguish you must have been going through. My advice is to imagine the best life for yourself then make a plan to achieve it. That is what I did and I found I had the life that exceeded my wildest dreams. It took time and hard work but the sense of purpose got me out of the doldrums and on to better things!

    Hi Catherine,
I am watching you do the craft show with Amy, and you are having fun with her as you did with Dawn Bibby. This made me think about Dawn, what has happened to her ?. I know that she separated from JJ and I think that her programmes have lessened. I see also that her name has gone from the blog list. I must say that I love your approach to the shows which reminds me of Anthony’s style before he went Cruising!
