A trip down Memory Lane and a QVC blooper!

ChildhoodadjHello!

Hope you are all well! I've just got back from a flying visit to my mum's in Ireland. She moved into a new apartment before Christmas but this was the first chance I've had to take a trip over, so it was fantastic to see her and her lovely new home.

She's been doing lots of clearing out and dug out some old photos, many of which I hadn't seen for years, so we had a right old trip down Memory Lane. Here's one of me as a toddler – note my natural hair colour, which is almost black! I've been blonde for so many years now I'd almost forgotten how dark it used to be. And yes, I do look like a small boy! I was quite tomboyish when I was small.

Jackie Kabler Christmas listMum also dug out a letter I wrote to Santa Claus when I was about five. It made me laugh – can you imagine children these days asking for fruit for Christmas? Apple means a whole different thing these days, doesn't it?!

I was born in Coventry but both my parents are Irish, and they moved us (them and five children by that point!) back to Ireland when I was nine. I stayed until after university and then moved back to the UK, but I go back regularly as most of my family live there.

Luckily, some of my best school and university friends also moved to the UK and I caught up with Judith, my oldest friend (we've been mates since we were 12!), last week in London.

We went to see the musical adaptation of Matilda in the West End. Oh my goodness, what a fantastic production! The music, the choreography, the effects, the super-talented cast… all superb. Definitely recommended.

Now, one of the reasons I love working at QVC is that we have such fun on air, and as with all live television we can have some of our funniest moments when things go wrong. In case you missed this very amusing episode during one of my recent Nina Leonard shows with the hilarious Lenny, here it is.

As you will know, we have lots of details on the screen, including colour options for the various items. In this clip, a bizarre computer error turned what should have been the simple colour 'green' into something very odd indeed – have a look!

Nour jewelleryYou may know that March is Jewellery Month on QVC – all month long you'll be seeing some of our best loved brands and some exciting new ranges. I love fine jewellery, especially diamonds and morganite, but I'm a big fan of fashion jewellery too – it's such an affordable way of changing the look of an outfit and adding a touch of style.

I love the Nour range, and you'll be seeing me wearing a lot of this during March – here's just a small sample of the gorgeous pieces in the range! Look out for Nour shows during the month.

Finally, I did promise a new giveaway competition around now and I'm not one to go back on my word, but I've noticed there are competitions running on a couple of other presenters' blogs at the moment so I thought I'd delay mine slightly! I'll run it next month to celebrate my birthday instead. The good news is that gives me more time to accumulate extra prize goodies, so it'll be worth waiting for!

As always, I love to hear from you so leave a comment on this blog (see below) or get in touch on Twitter – I'm @jackiekabler.

Have a fabulous week!

Love Jackie x

    Hi Jackie,
My goodness I can’t believe how dark your hair was as a child.
The clip of the Nina Leonard show had me in stitches…so funny.
Glad you had a lovely time with your friend in London and that you got to visit your Mum here in Ireland !
I’m looking forward to the rest of Jewellery month.
Quite a lot of my jewellery is from QVC.
I have a lot of Tova and Diamonique.
Hope you have a great week ahead.
    Lots of Love

    Hi Sam,
Yes I had dark hair until my early 30’s, then went blonde – now I can’t go back! I love Diamonique too, have treated myself to several pieces over the past year. And yes, I always love a trip to Ireland, great fun!

    Hi Jackie,
I really enjoyed the Nina Leonard clip! I could hear you giggle all the way through in the background too which was great!
Wow, I wouldn’t have expected your natural hair colour to be that shade but with your colouring I think you can get away with most colours. You looked very thoughtful! I am glad you had a lovely time with your Mum too.
Yes, lists to Santa Claus have certainly changed!! Mine for about 2 or 3 years consisted of asking for a kitten and could I have my ears pierced. I’d leave the notes on my Mum’s pillow to pass on!
You are great on QVC, I always know if I see one of your shows, I am going to have a chuckle at something,
    All the best, Beth XXX.

    Hi Jackie
I expect your Mum was pleased to see you. Love the photo , sadly my Mum is no longer with us but we use to go through the old photographs and have a good laugh, but my daughter Heidi and I often look at them with the ones of my dear Mum of course. I watched the video of you with Lenny there was a mix up of names the other night when Charlie was on with Easiyo, must be a naughty gremlin in the system. I do love Lenny he is so bubbly and makes you laugh. Love the photo of you with your father in law, he looks so well, and still playing golf, wow. Your letter to Santa, I was sorting out some things the other day and found one Heidi had written when she was little and I had kept it. Yes you are right today an Apple would not be of the eating kind but a phone or an I pad. Anyway you take care.

    Hi Jackie,
I did do a reply last week but it’s not here, hey ho!
Anyway, glad to hear you had a great time with your Mum. Looking at photos is always great and yes, I cannot believe your natural hair colour is v. dark! You can wear most hair colours and blonde does suit you.
I’ve just spotted the photo of you with your father-in-law: he looks and sounds an amazing person and good to know you have a great bond. People like that don’t come along very often.
All the best and keep having fun,
    BethXX.

My apologies, I am going mad!! I’ve just realised I’ve replied to you twice on here Jackie. My apologies to the team who “approve” the replies, I thought my first reply had gone astray. Whoops! xx

    Hi Beth,
Both of your replies have appeared now, must have been another gremlin in the works somewhere! Yes, I’ve tried most hair colours, from my natural almost black, through all the shades of brown, then red, now blonde! Think I’m happy as a blonde though so this is for keeps, probably….
I think it’s so important to value and enjoy time with parents and parents in law, life is short!
    Have a lovely week.

    Hi Jean,
Yes I’m very lucky to still have my mum (and dad, and father in law!). We get on so well and although we don’t get to see each very often it’s always great when we do. Hope all is good with you, thanks for your reply as always!
