Having your cake and eating it!

Butler & Wilson anniversary cake I love my presenting job on QVC, but sometimes I love it even more than others! That was definitely the case this week just gone.

It all started on Tuesday when I was working with Lulu, who's just lovely. I'd been reading her biography in preparation for the show and it's mind-boggling to think how long and successful her career has been, and how many famous people she's rubbed shoulders with, yet she's stayed so down to earth.

Later that evening I ended up presenting a health and fitness hour (a bit of a quick change to the schedule). It was a bit weird 'cos my son Daniel was on the show as one of the models – cheeky monkey says he prefers working with Julian!!!

Imagine my surprise when I walked into the guest lounge and came face to face with my former hairdresser Marcus. Can I just say at this point that he's no longer my hairdresser as he left Aveda to become the manager at the Harrod's salon, otherwise I'd still be going to him. Anyway, it turns out he was in the building to guest some products from The Big Brush Company, and if he says they're good then they must be! It was great to catch up with him again.

Then on Wednesday and Thursday it was the Butler & Wilson 14th Anniversary shows – I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did. Did you see the T-shirt with Simon's photo done in sequins? And how about the cake? I don't know where he got the picture from but what a brilliant idea to put it on the cake! For those of you who were wondering, it was strawberries and cream, and as Alison Young can verify, it was delicious!

Julia's mum Thursday was also my Mum's birthday. She spent it with my sister up in Scotland but we said 'hi' to her on air – I hope she was watching! She was 83 and I think she looks fabulous, as you can see from this photo I took of her at Rachel's wedding last month.

She puts it down to being active – she still teaches dancing – and to Liz Earle's skincare. As a treat we got her a big bag of Liz's products, though she hasn't tried the new eye cream yet. Keep watching on Thursday as it's the first chance you'll have to treat yourself to it too!

And then of course we had Fashion Day AND Gold Day… all in all a great week!

Hope you enjoyed it all too – do drop me a line and let me know what your highlights of the week were.

Till next time,
Much love,
Julia. xx.

Hi Julia Nice to write to you again, it has been a while.I did not have a great few weeks as I have been very ill, but I just want to say that your show with Simon cheered me up so much, I also thought that the T SHIRT was a great idea, so was the cake, glad you enjoyed it.My husband ordered Simon”s book and an earring for me which made me feel much better. I know it is late, but I hope you had a fab holiday in Spain, it has been so hot here (Mallorca) that we wished for the rain or some of the English weather. As I said that I have been ill, so I will not be able to come to London in September to see you all at QVC, but will come in December, and may be manage to come to QVC. All the best.

    Hello Kam
Nice to hear from you again, glad you enjoyed the Butler and Wilson shows. Thanks for the comment about my mum, I’m going to pass them all on to her as she doesn’t have the internet! Love the gold hoops – my new fave earrings!!
I posted a reply to you on my main page re the eyeshadow etc. The purple I use is YSL and I also use the Smashbox ‘spotlight’ shadow liner. Lips usually Gale Hayman 14ct lip lift with Fran Wilson gloss BUT I just ‘discovered’ the Mally nude lipgloss ( it was an OTO late on Sunday night ) and it’s gorgeous!

    Hello Magda
I’m so sorry to hear that you have been poorly and hope you are on the mend now? I am pleased we were able to cheer you up a bit with the Butler and Wilson show – the book is amazing and will be something to look at during your recovery.
I wouldn’t wish this summers weather on anyone – to say it has been changeable is an understatement!!
Let us know when you are planning to visit in December so that we can try and organise a studio tour for you – something to look forward to.
    Look after yourself

    Hello Jo
I wonder if you are a Joanne/a or a Josephine? My mum is a Josephine but shortens it to Josie for adults and Jojo for all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Actually she is about to become a great great grandmother in September ( which means I will be a great great Aunt – eek!) Thanks for your lovely compliments to us both
    much love

Hi Julia, Enjoyed the show with Simon always a pleasure to watch you two together, bought the book its such a treasure in itself all the glamour of the jewellery and the fact its helping the Breast Cancer Care funds is very good of Simon, think its something that seems to touch all of us in some way, my own sister had a masectomy 12 years ago now and shes done so well we are all very proud of her ,we all do our bit so to speak to raise funds . Well summer will soon be over now and we missed it again lets hope for a beautiful colourful Autumn , your Mum is a beautiful lady so elegant and I can see a resemblance in you , since Ive gotten older Ive been told Im so like my Mum who I no longer have sadly , now my girls are being told they are like me.All good wishes , Margaretxx

    Hello Margaret.
So pleased you like the Butler and Wilson book – it really is a work of art and as you say it’s grest to be able to raise some money for Breast Cancer Care – watch out for the event which is on October 15th this year. Sadly I’m not presenting it but I will be around on the evening so no doubt I’ll pop in at some point. Thanks for your comments about my mum – I am very proud of the way she has coped since we lost my Dad nearly 2 years ago.
Funny what you say about family resemblance cos Sophie is now being told she looks like me!!!!
    much love

    Hi Linda
I don’t know where to start thanking you for all the lovely compliments …… so thank you for all of them on behalf of myself and my mum. I told her about all the lovely comments everyone had left and it really made her day. She is back teaching dancing today after the summer holidays.
It’s funny you should mention Debbie Flint …….. she is coming back to QVC after an absence of 10 years!! We met up for coffee earlier in the year and I can report she hasn’t changed at all ………. including the laugh!! All we need now is Lavers back – maybe you should start a campaign? (Not leaving Steve out, but as you may or may not be aware, he died a few years ago).
Simon and I are next on on QVC’s 16th birthday so I hope you’ll be watching?!?
    much love

    Hi Julia
It was so kind of you to answer re my commentx Well my flabber is gasted, i am so looking forward to seeing Debbie back on my TV screen on QVC , i cant believe its been 10 years – how time flies eh!! Now get working on Lavers and the magic trio would be complete, i clearly remember his last show with QVC on Christmas eve morning(2000?) you had especially come in to present with him and i could see your sadness re him going – i remember i had a little cry – he is a big miss to main stream live shopping telly. My funniest memory re Paul was when he presented a stamp pad/roller set type thingy – i think one of the pads was a leaf design. Anyway he was in the QVC kitchen set and to demonstrate he started painting the walls!! I think his director/producer was shouting in his ear to stop but Paul being Paul he just carried on – i fell of my chair laughing. I had heard about Steve, so sad,i was upset to hear about his death, i hope he’s at peace nowxx Many Thanks again for taking the time to reply and give the good news re Debbie. Look after yourself, Love Lindax

    Hi Linda
You jogged my memory re Paul ‘decorating’ the set – it was hysterical! Do you also remember the kitchen shows Paul and I used to do together and the incident icing the chocolate cake ………… we were both laughing so much we couldn’t speak. We also did the original QVC Morning Show – don’t think I could cope with those early starts these days! Debbie will be on screen some time in October so not long to wait
    speak soon
