Ohhh to be back in Gran Canaria or at least have some warmer weather. It’s been rubbish this week, hasn’t it? Not that it makes a difference when you’re inside an enclosed TV studio most of the time. Although I do get out around the building occasionally…
This week I was working behind the scenes on Wednesday on one of our famous ‘QVC Guest Excellence’ seminars. It’s an all-day QVC sell-fest, which we get all our new guests to attend, and I met some lovely people. They hear all about QVC from the various crew involved – director, producer, floor manager, and get to practice their selling skills with Jill Goldsmith (our lovely old Molton Brown guest, remember?). New guests included Ingrid Tarrant, who may be coming on air for a fashion range.
Some of the guests commented about how much fun it seems to be working here and I have to agree. I had several on-air examples of exactly that this week. When you’re on with someone like Laura Geller, it’s easy to have a laugh!
Then I had a fun diamonds show with Laurie Wickwire who mentioned a favourite childhood TV show of ours – turns out we’re the same age. We were showing a beautiful statement ring and said ‘it reminds me of Shazzam’! Or was it ‘Shazzan'? Do you recall? I must search for it on the internet. It was a cartoon about some sort of genie I think, who appeared when a boy and a girl clinked their ‘magic’ rings together – must have been on mid 70s. Ahhh, memories!
… no not really. It was one of the bonnets Adam made with the Martha Stewart circle cutter! But Julian also made me smile when the aqua bedding set came on and he reminisced about 'aqua gum' and 'Marine Boy', taking me right back to another all time absolute childhood favourite TV show of mine, during a Northern Nights hour with our lovely Susie Adams! Do you remember the theme tune to Marine Boy? And I loved Julian’s name for the bedding set…
So yes, I guess we could say we have fun on QVC, in more ways than one. What’s been your favourite moment on air recently that made you laugh?
Maybe it was during the Kipling show on Monday, when us single girls chatted about being on air on Valentine’s night. Turns out we had a special treat in store – a kind of ‘consolation’ message from gorgeous Katherine Russell, our model. She wrote a song, The Valentine Blues, and sang it on YouTube.
Well better get back to my novel writing. I’m not on air this weekend since I’ve got a one day Verulam seminar in St. Albans with some of my lovely writing girls, two of whom are coming to stay overnight – can’t wait.
One thing I’ll be writing about next time though, is quite un-‘expected’ as they say. Seems like ‘Madame Pompi Daisy’ got up to mischief during one of her ‘great escapes’ –there’ve been a few little signs to say that all is not exactly as it should be, and I will bring you the update soon!
Anyway, have a lovely week and do leave me a comment about any of the above.
P.S. I'm also hoping to visit our wonderful fellow presenter Ali K – do make sure you pop by her blog page and send a message if you can, bless her.
