Having fun at QVC

21

Debbie on a camel_picnik I found the picture of me on a camel from my holiday – as per blog last week!  Thought it’d make you smile. I might not have got to see the real thing in Egypt but this was the next best thing.

Ohhh to be back in Gran Canaria or at least have some warmer weather. It’s been rubbish this week, hasn’t it? Not that it makes a difference when you’re inside an enclosed TV studio most of the time. Although I do get out around the building occasionally…

This week I was working behind the scenes on Wednesday on one of our famous ‘QVC Guest Excellence’ seminars. It’s an all-day QVC sell-fest, which we get all our new guests to attend, and I met some lovely people. They hear all about QVC from the various crew involved – director, producer, floor manager, and get to practice their selling skills with Jill Goldsmith (our lovely old Molton Brown guest, remember?). New guests included Ingrid Tarrant, who may be coming on air for a fashion range.

Some of the guests commented about how much fun it seems to be working here and I have to agree. I had several on-air examples of exactly that this week. When you’re on with someone like Laura Geller, it’s easy to have a laugh!

Laura geller modelsWe had a fantastic Todays’ Special Value on Sunday – Beauty Day – with Laura and the team. I loved her Facebook update afterwards about what some of them do to unwind in between shows!

Then I had a fun diamonds show with Laurie Wickwire who mentioned a favourite childhood TV show of ours – turns out we’re the same age. We were showing a beautiful statement ring and said ‘it reminds me of Shazzam’! Or was it ‘Shazzan'? Do you recall? I must search for it on the internet. It was a cartoon about some sort of genie I think, who appeared when a boy and a girl clinked their ‘magic’ rings together – must have been on mid 70s. Ahhh, memories!

Julian in bonnet If it’s memories you want, Julian’s got to be the all time top nostalgia-inducer on QVC – and you’re always guaranteed a giggle! This week, not only did he get to show us what he wears at Easter…

… no not really. It was one of the bonnets Adam made with the Martha Stewart circle cutter! But Julian also made me smile when the aqua bedding set came on and he reminisced about 'aqua gum' and 'Marine Boy', taking me right back to another all time absolute childhood favourite TV show of mine, during a Northern Nights hour with our lovely Susie Adams! Do you remember the theme tune to Marine Boy? And I loved Julian’s name for the bedding set…

So yes, I guess we could say we have fun on QVC, in more ways than one. What’s been your favourite moment on air recently that made you laugh?

Maybe it was during the Kipling show on Monday, when us single girls chatted about being on air on Valentine’s night. Turns out we had a special treat in store – a kind of ‘consolation’ message from gorgeous Katherine Russell, our model. She wrote a song, The Valentine Blues, and sang it on YouTube.

Well better get back to my novel writing. I’m not on air this weekend since I’ve got a one day Verulam seminar in St. Albans with some of my lovely writing girls, two of whom are coming to stay overnight – can’t wait.

One thing I’ll be writing about next time though, is quite un-‘expected’ as they say. Seems like ‘Madame Pompi Daisy’ got up to mischief during one of her ‘great escapes’ –there’ve been a few little signs to say that all is not exactly as it should be, and I will bring you the update soon!

Anyway, have a lovely week and do leave me a comment about any of the above.

Best wishes

Debs

P.S. I'm also hoping to visit our wonderful fellow presenter Ali K – do make sure you pop by her blog page and send a message if you can, bless her.

    Hi Debbie,
You certainly have fun at QVC, never a dull moment.
You mention is daisy pregnant. Unless you know for sure that she has been naughty it may be a faulse pregnancy. They get this and get a build up of milk, become very possessive about things and will start to make a bed for pups later on. You need to get her checked or give her the after pill if not to late. If seems a bit early to notice changes yet, I am only going by my bitch which I bred from.
Good luck anyway and look forward to hearing the result. I am now going to start some more training for the Working Tests with some of my eight labradors. Meisha, Malachi, Benjie and Tyke.
    Speak soon.
    Love Jean. xxx

    Hi Debs,
Lovely blog as always. You do have such a fab and interesting life! You’re full of beans! Interested to know about Daisy. I hope it is a phantom as she is so young! Bet you’re hoping so too – what a time committment if she’s expecting! I absolutely love Laura – and when she was talking about having her legs out and they cut to the model – that made me giggle! You looked gorgeous that hour with her – hair up in the Ken Paves bun and gorgeous dress. Looking svelte!
    Love to Ali and yourself.

You talk about funny moments on QVC well a few years ago i can remember Julian trying to demo a liquidizer, yes you have guessed what happened next the lid wasn’t put on tight enough and the whole contents (Strawberry Milkshake) just covered the place and he just carried on to the next item like nothing had happened a true presenter all we could hear was the camerman laughing and you know what Debbie it sold out! Hi Debbie
Most admit to really missing Molton Brown on QVC. When I was working I was known as “The Molton Brown Lady” and I am still using the products I stocked up on.
Please pass on my best wishes to Ali when you see her, she has more than her fair share of bad luck.
    Enjoy your writing – Eileen
