Well a very Happy New Year to you!! I really hope you enjoyed the festive season and got to relax a bit in the chaos that seems to come with Christmas.
We had a lovely time, our girls loved it all so much. The excitement, the magic, the fun. They got spoilt with attention and toys, even though I did try and reign it in this year and spread their presents from us all over a few days. Tilda is the perfect age for the fun of mince pies and carrots being left out for Santa. Ivy isn’t sure what’s really going on, but she knows it’s good!
We had a lovely family day out over at ‘The Pig on the Beach’ in Studland between Xmas and New year, which is where our family photo above was taken. My mother in law was staying with us and this was a belated birthday lunch for her. The food is amazing and Tilda and Ivy were pretty well behaved too which is always a relief in a nice place!!
It was back up to London that evening though as I was working over the New Year weekend. The backstage crew and everyone at QVC always get into the spirit of things. The girls all wore their sparkle for New Year’s Eve – as you can see here they were channelling a bit of Spice Girls attitude, circa ’97.
So now with January upon us what resolutions, if any, have you made? I have to admit I’m not really a resolution person but in January I do always try to recover from the over indulgence. This year I’m trying to make a few small changes that I can realistically stick to and get back to some of the good habits that I have had in the past.
It’s a great time to be doing it too as QVC are focusing on health and fitness at the moment. Look out for us all using the hashtag #freshstart to share what we are up to. So one of the first changes I have made is that I have bought the Cooks Essential’s slow cooker. This particular 1.4L one has sold out but we still have a 3.5L available which is perfect for families.
I’m loving it so far, it’s so amazingly easy. I’ve never had one before and now can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner. No need for oil or fatty extras, just throw in meat (if you eat it) vegetables, seasoning, garlic, stock etc and leave to slow cook and infuse with wonderful flavours.
I’ve been making broccoli, spinach and stilton soup. I used ready-to-go frozen ingredients so I didn’t even have to chop anything up!! Perfect. It was really good if I do say so myself. I then made a prawn, sweet potato, chickpea and quinoa stew which turned out surprisingly well. I have to admit though, I should have added the prawns only in the last hour as they shrunk pretty small!!
I am also being better at adding supplements and shots of things like wheatgrass to my smoothies and things like that. Swapping some cups of tea with milk for hot water, lemon and ginger. I’m not someone who is prepared to cut things out of my life but I will cut back. No wine mid week and lots of water. I can then feel less guilty if I indulge at the weekend. I’m also trying to get back to some power walking. I hate running so this is perfect for me. I can even take Ivy in the pram and get down to the beach and blast along the seafront.
Over Christmas I’ve also been lucky enough to trial the Today’s Special Value offer from Decleor which is coming your way this Sunday 8th. I am already a big fan of this beauty brand so this was a pleasure. It’s a five-piece collection of Aroma Cleanse Micellar Water, Body Milk, Prolegene Gel, 24hr Hydrating Light Cream and my personal favourite Aromessence Neroli Night Balm. So, top-to-toe skin indulgence. I love Micellar Water as it’s so refreshing but it gets the job done removing my make-up. It’s got soothing rose essential oil which feels gorgeous too. The body milk is fast absorbing and I love it for my legs after shaving. The energising Prolegene Gel (SOS skin repair) is in a supersize tube so you can slather on those areas that bother you most like stretch marks.
The light face cream is indeed light so I love it as a base for make-up as it doesn’t make everything slide off. My all-time favourite product from Decleor has always been their Night Balm. This however was the first time I had tried the Neroli, I wondered if I would like it as much. Simply the answer is yes. My skin feels incredible in the morning and it smells divine.
Christmas has not been kind to my skin – too much rich food and wine, not to mention the cold weather has taken its toll, so this collection had its work cut out for it. Since I have started back to being more healthy again and drinking more water I am now seeing the Night Balm really coming into its own. As Fiona from Decleor will tell you, if you aren’t doing work from the inside too then you won’t see the best results. Join us on the 8th to hear more from Fiona about this gorgeous collection.
So that’s it from me for now. I will let you know how my January #freshstart regime is going in my next blog. I may even get back to the gym!!
Lots of love
