Happy new year!

Debbie, Brad and Lauren at Christmas Hi from me and mine – lovely son Brad and beautiful daughter Lauren – and a very happy new year to every one of my regulars who read my blog and leave comments! It’s lovely hearing about your lives too so do keep joining in, in 2011.

Where to begin…

First don’t forget to read our presenters’ resolutions on QGossip. Mine are clear – to write and get rid of any obstacles to doing it. Mind you, unless I find a new home for Daisy the devil dog, now re-named ‘Houdini’, that’ll take some doing.

She’s taken to disappearing, during her first season, in search of ‘man-dog’. Thank god for name tags and thick wire mesh fence! Hopefully her escapades will be foiled now, we’ll see.

Other obstacles to my getting creative on my days off include an untidy house, and feeling sluggish, so it’s a whole raft of healthy living resolutions I’ve lined up for January – in advance of the trip up the Nile that’s planned for the start of Feb. Can’t wait! What are you most looking forward to in the new year?

Christmas at QVC Towers was fun and festive – the guys backstage managed to excel themselves this year, with a fab advent calendar and bauble wall decorations in our big prep room, making it very festive indeed and so original – they won the prize, no surprises!

Advent calender Backstage decorations Debbie in Santa's grotto

QVC's nativity And the production office had a funny nativity scene made up of all the presenters’ faces from our photos – very creative and original! Alison Young an angel though? Ahem! Hehe.

My highlight at work was a visit to the production team's innovative ‘Santa’s Grotto’ which took me back to my childhood – great fun!

Well done to all the guys who contributed and made it happen and a big hug to Santa Gillian and Vanessa and the team – best ever idea behind the scenes at QVC in my opinion!

Me and the kids had a fabulous highlight in the form of a trip up town to see The Jersey Boys too – it was wonderful. The rags to riches story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons – well worth seeing if you get the chance. Ryan Molloy is excellent as Frankie, better than the American one in my opinion, if the show CD is anything to go by!

Christmas Day at the Flints

Christmas Day was our usual mayhem – nineteen round the Christmas table at my sister’s, but really nice to be amidst kith and kin (eh?). Last minute additions included brother Glenn and his little family, whose flight to Serbia to see in-laws was cancelled because of the snow. They got all the way to the departure lounge as well! Still at least it was nice to have the little ones around on the big day – always room for a little one around the table. Here’s a quick peep…

And everyone came to mine – again – on Boxing Day. It was a great way to use up the leftovers from the day before, instead of going to our usual restaurant treat. Cheaper too! I excelled myself with a lovely beef joint, well the slow cooker did it, not me, but it tasted great!

We had a good time over New Year on air too, Jules and I leading the run up to the bongs at midnight, and I was back in on New Year’s Day. I have an easier time over the next few weeks though – so back to my writing then. One day, this year, the Playboy Billionaire’s Hawaiian Affair WILL be finished! There, I’ve said it!

And whilst we didn’t show bloopers on air this year, QGossip put this one up, so here’s a little video of bloopers from years gone by – and if you spot any others on YouTube which you like, do add a link for me in a comment below!

2010's highlights

Other highlights of the year on QVC for me included the very many music guests we had on air, from John Barrowman, Elaine Paige, Billy Ocean, Westlife, Jason Donovan, Jodie Prenger doing a big band CD, Beverley Knight of course, The Hollies, Charlotte Church, and many more, including one of my favourites Blake. Here they are singing one of my all-time best songs from musicals, as a little treat, if you missed them on air.

So onwards to another new month, new year and is it a new decade, officially, too?
Glad to be here and looking forward to hearing your news – what was your highlight of the holiday season and was there anything you got, or got treated to, that surprised and pleased you?

Best wishes for a fab 2011.

It is a joy to watch your enthusiasm on screen.
What a great time you must have had at your sister’s at Christmas and yours at Boxing Day. Did you eat all your lunch?
I too was working New Years Eve – no let up for Midwives over holiday periods -no pun intended
Wishing you and yours a happy, healthy and fulfilled 2011.

    Hi Debbie,
Wow you had a lot over for Boxing Day. Glad you had a good time. So Houdini is still up to her tricks, what is it with labradors, my two and a half year old bitch Meisha which I bred has just ripped the inside of her Tuffies bed, I now have to order a new lining for it. Little Minx. She is also in season, I am now waiting for her Mum Ebony to come in and also Tyke, they usually bring each other in. I have to keep an eye on the boys, make sure they dont escape and go visiting.
Good thing they are all in kennels. I hope to breed from Ebony again this year.
Love the video of the blunders at QVC, my favourite has always been Anthony falling back in the chair.
Anyway Debbie a very Happy New Year to you and your family. I hope Houdini improves, they seem to get worse as they get older, mind you there is always one, although we seem to have more than one.
    Love Jean XX

gosh Cheryl – did you bring in any new year babies? what a magical job you have. And no, I didn’t eat all my lunch actually – eyes too big for belly! but considering the Flint plate tradition at xmas dinner used to be nearly as high as it was wide it’s not too bad!
thanks for your kind comments and best wishes for a happy 2011!

Jean – love hearing about your dogs! How long do the labrador seasons last can you tell me? I think it’s been about a week so far! Where are you based incidentally? I’d love to breed Daisy the Escapologist, and am sure she’d like it too, given her attempts to go in search of ‘man-dog’! lol. But depends on her hip score I guess! Big hugs for a happy new year!

Debs – My niece got Rummikub for Xmas so after NY days lunch we had a go. She won 6 -1 ! My excuse, one too many drinks as usual. Anyway , great game and worth getting (probably get the ‘travel’ version as it’s neat and compact, if its still available ). Assuming Houdini didn’t eat the numbers who won, LJ or yourself ?

You asked me about the time the bitches are in season, it lasts three weeks. I am at Chard in Somerset. Busy training my youngsters now ready for competing in some Working Tests throughout the year. They love retrieving the dummies, also some are still out working at shoots for the rest of January, they also love that as well. The only trouble with the ones I bred is that they are so fast, it is getting them to stop at a distant on the whistle, we will get there hopefully.
Yes it would be nice if you could breed from yours, it keeps the line going and there is such a satisfaction to have bred your own dogs. Keep in touch.
    Love Jean. XXX
