Happy feet!

Our feet in Birkenstocks I hope you are looking forward to our Fashion Weekend starting at midnight tonight. I'm kicking the whole thing off with our Kim and Co. Today's Special Value and I'll also be with Kim for a fashion show on Sunday and her bedding range on Monday at 7pm.

Plus, I have the pleasure of launching the Kenneth Jay Lane TSV on Saturday into Sunday, and if you love faux pearls you absolutely have to stay up!

I'll also be presenting two of my favourite footwear brands, Birkenstock and Emu. You already know how much I love my Emus from previous blogs and I can now report that Sophie loves hers too.

Because of the weather, we've both had them on our feet most days either with skinny jeans (Sophie's much skinnier than mine), leggings or opaque tights, but I must confess I have even worn them under my trackie bottoms… don't tell Glen Campbell!!

Birkis by Birkenstock Mallorca Single Strap Sandal I doubt I would be able to persuade my partner Chris to wear Emus but it was a different story with Birkenstock. In early summer last year he was complaining about a terrible sharp pain in his right heel.

It was so bad that he even went to the doctor (almost unheard of) and was recommended to try some special insoles to help raise the arch, as he has very flat feet, along with painkillers. Although they helped a bit, he was still limping around like a puppy with a thorn in his paw, and the insoles gave me an idea.

For his birthday at the end of August I bought him a pair of Birkenstocks. To be honest I didn't think he would take to them, but as we had the 30-day money-back guarantee, it was worth a try. For the first few days I told him to wear them for an hour or so at a time and although he didn't find them particularly comfortable, he persevered.

After a week he'd noticed an improvement in the pain in his heel and now he rarely takes them off. He has worn them instead of slippers this winter and wants me to ask Nicki Lloyd if Birkenstock do shoes!!!

Betula by Birkenstock Energy Eva Flip Flop I know some of you take to Birkenstocks straight away, but for some of us, myself included, it takes a little longer and my advice is to persevere, it's worth it. Funny thing, when Keeley from Elemis came to my house for lunch on Beauty Day there was a bit of a Birkenstock mix-up by the front door… we both have exactly the same single-strap sandal in silver!

My latest pair are the EVA flip flops they are so comfortable and if they do them in a size 10 I think I'll have to buy a pair for 'him indoors'!

Enjoy your Fashion Weekend,

Love Julia xx

Hello Julia, I was interested to read about Chris and his reaction to Birkinstocks, and will wait with interest to see what the answer to the shoe question will be.I thought that clog types for men might come this year as clogs seem to be making a bid for a comeback, at least in ladies fashion. My OH would wear covered clog type sandals, but would run a mile at wearing the flip flop style,he cant even see me wearing them as I had a bad experiance with this style years ago and he had to wrap his sock round my foot and try to get me to a doc. This was years ago and the flips concerned were not Birkenstocks,I live in them preferably the florida 3 strap.Great to see you back and looking good.

P.S. we were walking along a beach which had rocky patches when I came a cropper, and civalisation was a couple of miles almost straight up from where we were, this was what made a simple accident a pretty bad experiance for us, everything was sorted out without lasting damage except for Joe’s fear of anything that goes between the toes. Takes all Kinds.

Hi Julia, please could you tell me the make or designer of the dress you was wearing on saturday evenings birkenstock / kipling show. I phoned QVC twice and they could not give me much information.
    Thank you,

    Hi Julia
Thanks to QVC and Emu and maybe something to do with my constant badgering of Customer Services about small sizes I am very happy to report that I can now wear the kids Emu range in a size 2!
They really are so snuggly and warm, just right for this winter we are having.
Now I wonder if similar persuasion could be brought upon Birkenstock to do a childrens range then I could wear them in the summer??
I have watched all the Birkenstock shows this weekend and they are soooooo pretty.
    So how about it QVC?
    Here’s hoping
    Love

Hi Miss Julia, You now know I was vewing the Mally Show and enjoyed it all. I am writing to ask if you can help me locate an item of Butler & wilson. Its the little red shoe pin. The reason I am writing to you is that I have a friend who lost touch with his sister as a child and they have just located each other after 75 YEARS thanks to the internet and the daughters of both the sister and the brother its wonderful news. The last time my friend saw his sister he was 4years old and she was 2years old and he remembered her wearing little red shoes. I tried on the web site to get them and they are not available. We live in Scotland and its not possible at the moment to get to London. The families of my friend are meeting for the first time at the beginning of April and I would like to get this item for then if I can as it would be very appropriate I am sure you will agree. Ilove when you and Simon are on the shows together and I hope this will enable me to get some information.Thank you Elizabeth

    Hi Julia
Watched your Birkenstock show, great as always. I bought my first Birkenstock from QVC about 5 years ago, got used to it in a few days, I wear them all the time in the summer, even in the winter at home with socks, they are fab. Thanks to QVC as I”cant get them here in Mallorca.
By the way I booked to come to London on May 10th for 12 days, this time I hope nothing will stop me from coming to QVC and to meet you, Iam so looking forward to it.
Do let me know what is the best day and time for you.
And I do agree with everyone you did look great on the show, and your dress was fab.
    Much love.

    Hi Marg
What a horrible experience for you and the OH, no wonder he’s not keen on flip flops! Would he not consider wearing the 2 strap Arizona that Chris has taken such a shine to?? You probably heard me ask on air about the shoes …….. not yet according to Nicki, but I wouldn’t rule it out. I am on with Birkenstock again on Saturday at 9p.m. so I can ask Nicki about the men’s clogs then. Thanks for your lovely compliments
    love to you and Joe

    Hi Tina
The dress I was wearing is from the Ronnie Nichol range but not from her latest collection so I don’t think it is currently available. Have a look at our website though as I could be wrong, and she has some other lovely styles.
    much love

    Hi Debbie
Hope you treated yourself to some new Birkenstocks? If not I have another show on Saturday at 9p.m. with Nicky. As I said to Tina from Watford the dress I was wearing is a Ronnie Nichol but not from the newest collection so it may not be available at the moment – it comes with a seperate shaping underskirt which is useful to wear under other dresses.
    much love

    Hello Jane
So pleased you are able to enjoy Emu now – what tiny feet you have ( that sounds a bit like the wolf from Red Riding Hood doesn’t it??) I will ask Nicky about the children’s sizes in Birkenstock when I am with her on Saturday evening.
    Here’s hoping
    much love

    Hello Magda
You suprise me that you can’t get Birkenstock in such a cosmopolitan place as Mallorca ……… we would probably have better prices anyway, and definitely more choice.
I haven’t had my days and hours for May yet but I’m sure I’ll be around at some point during your planned stay. We’ll touch base nearer the time to firm up arrangements – maybe you could meet Ali K too?
Glad you liked my dress for the Birkis show – obviously a popular choice.
    much love

    Hello Zoe
Thanks for your kind compliments – I have just spoken to the buyer for the Birkenstock range and apparently there is some doubt whether they will be able to re-order the gladiator style you are referring to, although they will ask Nicky on your behalf. Can I also recommend that you check our website in a weeks time as sometimes people order by cheque and then we don’t receive the payment, so we only keep it reserved for a short time. A long shot I know but worth a try.
    Enjoy your holiday
    love

Hi Julia, Thankyou for replying,Joe would happily wear sandals of any sort ,but he would have to wear sox so they are forbidden by me indoors. When he was in his late teens he played football for two teams and with training and sometimes playing two matches on a Saturday he ruined his toenails and even today his toenails fall off in one piece, horrible. That was my reason for asking about clogs, they are ideal,he has had a couple of pairs but they died through overwork. Its great to think that I am fretting over
sandals while still wearing boots for warmth, its a funny old world,
    Keep smiling
    Marg.

    Hello Jen
That’s a very kind thing to say! Hope you enjoy the Clarks show today – we have some ‘mary jane ‘ styles in it. I’ll ask the question about Kim and Co in xs BUT I have asked it before!!!!!! Maybe if we could get more of you to request it here on the blog it would have more impact?
    much love

    Hi Marg
No wonder you’re asking about clogs!!!!! Poor Joe! I have been face to face with a footballers mashed up big toe on live television. When I was presenting a Cable TV show called Palace Chatback former Crystal Palace and England player Gareth Southgate was ‘on the sofa’ and showed the viewers the damaged digit- UGH! I bet you’ll all be wondering what his toe is like now next time he’s a pundit on ITV!
Keep thinking about the sandals – summer can’t be far away

I am going on holiday in June and would like to purchase one of their costumes. I have bought a couple before and found them to be both practical and comfortable. They also enable you to tan all over without exposing yourself.Hope you are able to help me cos my tummy looks much better with a tan. Love jen
