Happy Birthday to you, and you and you and you and you!!!!

17

Julia's niece's baby SamThe first few days of January have always been a bit packed with family birthdays, but it just got even worse! Until last week the first family birthday was my sister's on Jan 5th, followed by my niece Rachel on the 6th, then my daughter Sophie on the 8th and another niece, Toogie, on the 9th.

Now, thanks to a new arrival, the run of birthdays starts on the 3rd. The aforementioned Rachel gave birth to her first baby, a little boy, who they have named Sam. Actually he wasn't so little, weighing in at 8lbs 7oz and I'm sure you'll agree he looks gorgeous. I guess I will have to get the knitting needles out… if I can find them after the second house move in two years… and I want to make something for Carmel's baby too, so I will be very busy!

As I mentioned, it was Sophie's birthday last Tuesday. She really wanted to go and see the film version of 'Les Miserables' but it didn't go on general release until today, so we went out for a meal on her actual birthday and we're going to the cinema on Monday to see 'Les Mis'. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I have never been to see the stage show, although I am familiar with the music… have you seen it??

I have done the final count up on the votes for my book cover and I must say it was very close… one vote in it in the end. Red came third with 17 votes, purple was second with 22 votes so the winner was coral with 23 votes. I have seen a mock up of the cover and it is looking really good, so thanks for your help in choosing. I'll keep you updated on here regarding its first air date – should be mid to late February.

I'm on air this afternoon at 4pm with the skincare range Rodial and then Fashion on Friday at 5pm, then I'm taking a break for a few days. I'll be back for the Beauty Bash on the 23rd January, so if you are attending please come and say hello, and back on TV on the 24th.

Much love, Julia xx

    Hi Julia,
What a lovely photo of your nieces baby, arn’t they yummy at that age.Good weight too.We have thought about going to see the film Les Mis it’s about 3 hours long i think. My mother inlaws funeral went well, more reletives from Wales and Stoke to meet too. Ian and i are off to The Gambia in February to celebrate his birthday on 21st, and to relax after all that has happened for 2 weeks so will be away when you return from yours. Have a good time wherever you are going.Let’s also hope Pompey win a football match.lol Enjoy the film.
    Bye for now.

    Hi Julia,
Wow that is a lot of birthdays this month. Love the picture of Sam, yes I think you will have to find those knitting needles.
Hope you and Sophie enjoy “Les Mis”, I have not seen it, it looks good.
Looking forward to the book when it is published.
I did receive an invite to the Beauty Bash but unfortunately am unable to make it. Have a good rest and enjoy the Beauty Bash.
    Love Jean X

    Hi Julia
Sam does indeed look gorgeous, bless. We will be celebrating Chris’ nan’s birthday next week …. (89!) and my nephew’s birthday 17th Jan but that’s it for us in January.
I have seen the ‘Les Mis’ stage show about 20 years ago! Hard to recall but I think I enjoyed it at the time though not too bothered about seeing the movie. It all looks a bit too depressing from the trailer (which I saw when I went to see Breaking Dawn part 2)!!
Your book sounds very close now. I’m reading ‘A Street Cat Named Bob’ at the minute and really enjoying it. I saw Bob and his owner on the One Show a couple of months ago and have been meaning to get the book ever since. I’m really enjoying it and it’s very enlightening about the reasons why people become homeless and correcting misconceptions about how ‘The Big Issue’ works, etc. I’ve made a NY resolution to buy a copy every week.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Beauty Bash on 23rd. I’ll be bringing some more chocolate buns and will be sure to save you some this time!! Well, that is, unless I see Ali Young first!!! If I haven’t come to say Hello before 5.30, I’m probably with Florian from L’Artisan, I could listen to him all day!!
    Love
    Marian

    Hi Julia
What a lovely photo of Sam and obvious to see that his GR8 Auntie is smitten! I’m due to be a GR8 Auntie again soon for the third time!
Chris and I saw ‘Les Mis’ in London a few years ago and must admit, although we enjoyed it, it was very long and we looked forward to our meal out afterwards!! Be interesting to see what you think of the film…hope you both enjoyed it!
Just caught the end of you saying you were off until a week on Thursday, hope you have a great break, or is it work with you book…maybe signing all the copies? Really hope I don’t miss out on one, I’m really looking forward to the read to see how many other things we may have in common.
Pleased to say I’ve lost 3lbs this week, just by cutting down, which was helped by finishing off the Thorntons choccies the week before last…I was pleasantly surprised that the smaller boxes were double layered and not single layers as described, which came in handy for extra pressies!
Enjoy the Beauty Bash…will it be on screen like it was a couple of years ago?
    love

Hi Julia it’s Diane your dancer friend from York. I’ve got an iPad now so find emailing so much easier and hope to keep in touch with you more often than just your birthday!! Lovely to read all your family news and the new addition to the family, he is yummy. Really looking forward to your book launch, I don’t know how you find the time you have such a busy life. Glad you had a great Xmas and good luck with your house move, again. Enjoy a few days off and look forward to seeing you on air again this week. Much love dianexxx

    Hello Diane
I was just talking about you the other day ….. you get a mention in my book and they kept putting Diana instead of Diane! I hope they have got it right now. I was worried about your health as I didn’t have a Christmas card from you this year – hope all is ok?
It was good to get away for a few days, particularly to escape the freezing conditions here, but the weather could have been a bit kinder.
I had no idea how much work there is to get a book into print …. turns out the writing was the easy part! Not long to wait now …… about four weeks. It’s exciting and terrifying at the same time!
    Love to you and yours

    Hi Kathy
You are forgiven on the dates mix up …… you’ve had a lot on your mind. Hope things will start to calm down a bit now and that Ian is doing OK.
I really enjoyed Les Mis (if enjoyed is the right word). I thought Hugh Jackman was outstanding – I was snivelling after about ten minutes, and then full blown crying at Ann Hathaway’s death. Helena Bonham Carter was brilliant in her comedy performance. I would definitely recommend it – it certainly didn’t feel like two and a half hours.
Enjoy your holiday if we don’t speak before
    Love

    Hello Jean
Sorry to hear you won’t be at the Beauty Bash – maybe next year?
The trouble with moving twice in two years is that we still have loads of stuff in boxes in the garage waiting to be sorted through and thrown out or rescued! That probably includes my knitting bag, but it is just finding it!
Les Miserables was soooo much better than I was expecting – I think I may have to go again.
    Speak soon

    Hi Marian
You have to go and see Les Mis the movie – I’ve always been a bit ambivalent about ‘The Glums’ but it was really good …. I can’t get the closing song out of my head!
I’m looking forward to chocolate buns tomorrow – don’t you dare give them all to Ali Young! I’ll do an extra ten minutes on the Pilates today in preparation!
I’m sure Florian will spend some time with you but do try and remember he will need to speak to other people too LOL!
    See you tomorrow

    Hi Annette
I am now a Great Aunt to seven and of course a Great Great Aunt to Leo who appeared on this blog over three years ago! …. where does the time go?
I was in Spain for a few days last week – I missed all the snow, although of course it is still lying as it is so cold. Weather was better than here but not exactly sunbathing weather! It was a good break and Chris and I stayed in a really posh hotel for the last three days to celebrate our 35th anniversary. It also had a lovey heated indoor pool so I was able to do a couple of stints of 100 lengths of the pool.
Speaking of which, I will be signing the books in a couple of weeks time so I had better limber up my wrist!
    love

    Hi Paula
I’ve bought the wool and the pattern but I’ve yet to find my knitting bag with the knitting needles in it – that’s what comes from moving house …….. and yes we are still looking for a new house, no luck yet though.

    Hi Ginny
You are so in the right place at the moment – the UK is cold and snowy! I just got back from a few days in Spain but even that was cooler than usual at this time of year. Your place sounds fantastic – I know exactly what you mean about the sound and the smell of the ocean, it fills my soul too!
I just put my Karen Millen skinnies through a 30 degree wash with a non bio liquid – seems to do the trick!
Re the book – if you send me a stamped addressed envelope I will send you a copy when it is out …. Or alternatively I can bring one with me if I visit lol!!
    Speak soon

It is very slow with setbacks along the way, but all in the right direction is am pleased to say. Lovely to see you back on screen. Good luck for your book launch….can’t wait. Lots of love Diane xx
