Happy birthday, Simon!

Ladybug lightWell it was his anniversary last week and today it’s his birthday. Who am I talking about? The one and only Simon Wilson…although I am sure there are others, just not like our Simon!

Those of you who have been watching our shows on QVC for a number of years will know that Simon and I have a running joke about both ladybirds and ‘naff’ birthday gifts…the ones I give to him I’m talking about!

Well, for some reason I forgot to take it in to work with me last week for him to open and ridicule live on air, so my partner Chris very kindly offered to drop the present and card off at Simon’s house.

I can just imagine his expression when he unwrapped the turquoise tissue paper to find this lurking inside! It is a ladybird solar light and will either be consigned to the furthest corner of his garden, where no-one can see it, or the bin!

Birthday cardI am hoping the card has a more favourable reception – I thought it was perfect. Simon has done a series of frog brooches and the crown has a resemblance to the B&W logo, don’t you agree?

I hope he has a lovely birthday with his sister and her family, and look out for his next show on QVC, which I think is the 3rd of September. It won’t be with me as I am taking a couple of weeks off from work to relax and try and get a bit more of my new book written.

Thanks to those of you who replied to my blog the week before last with your stories about the furthest flung place you have seen QVC beauty products. Although technically they weren’t for sale in Mexico, I hadn’t specified that they had to be, so the bag of goodies goes to Caroline for the Ultrasun story. Congratulations and I hope you enjoy them.

Here’s a little heads up for you. QVC are going to be launching a fantastic competition next week to celebrate our 20th birthday on October 1st. I won’t give any details on how to enter but just let me say you will need to be watching your sets and/or website very closely each day to be in with a chance of winning the all-inclusive 5* trip to Mauritus.

Good luck to you all and see you back on air on Friday 13th September!!!

Much love,

    Hi Julia
Have a good rest and enjoy your time off, looking forward to your new book. Had a great shop when Simon was on air, and my items arrived today, love them all. My husband loves ladybirds and would have been over the moon to get one as solar light.
Iam going to hospital for an ultra sound on September 3rd, then have to go again to have my gallbladder removed, so the trip to London is now put on hold till end of September, by then you will be back to QVC and I hope to see you then.
    All the best.

    Dear Julia,
I keep trying to reply to your last message. Hope it works this time.
We were in the RAF for over 30 years and since then my hisband has worked on helicopter design.
We’ve lived in Germany twice, Holland twice, Spain, France, Scotland and England.
Our son and daughter-in-law live in Kuala Lumpur so we’ve visited Malaysia several times.
My favourite place though is New Zealand .

    Hi Julia,
Now I am sure that your Ladybird Solar Light will take pride of place in Simon’s house. And of course the birthday card. I expect he had a great birthday.
Love the photograph of the floating cat, look at those ears very alert.
You said you were taking two weeks off to have a rest, by reading your tweets that seems to be impossible, you seem busier than ever.
Anyway do take some time out for yourself and have a well deserved rest.
    Take care. Love Jean XX

    Hi Julia,
I have to start by telling you I got the Butler and Wilson Cross Ring! It was on during his anniversary show, and I was lucky enough to order it in both options before selling out… They are fabulous!
I often wonder what Simon actually does with his gifts as he always makes fun of them, but I’m sure to him they are treasured as they are from you (you are clearly his favourite – hehe) and he must be very hard to buy for, as all men are…
Its funny that you show that card, as I was only thinking to myself the other day (when I needed a card for a friend, who isn’t into flowers and all the typical girly things) how great would it be if Simon turned those little postcards he’s been doing recently with his jewellery etc, into full sized greeting cards – obviously they could be blank to be used for any occasion. I’m sure he won’t do this, but I keep hoping.
After your previous blog, I did in fact bake a cake, instead of the lemon, I went for a vanilla sponge with strawberry buttercream frosting… it was delicious! however strangely on the same day I’d made it, I had friends and relatives visit me out of nowhere, some I’d not seen for weeks/months… I’m sure they have my kitchen bugged!!
I thought I’d share some of my most recent QVC purchases with you, especially my first (and second) purchase from the charlie bear collection. I ordered Sprout and Parsnip. Sprout was so beautiful, the lovely green fur, the softness and the quality.. WOW… then came Parsnip, who was also soft, well made etc… although I’ll admit at first I was a little overwhelmed with just how bright he was (whats that phrase for when someone is overly orange?) but I am now hooked on the range, and keep looking on the web for back in stocks or new additions.
I also took the plunge and ordered the Apple Ipad Mini (when it was the TSV) and am finally starting to get to grips with it… next step iphone! Its so amazing, I cannot believe it can do what it can, its hard to imagine life without one, and thats just after a few weeks… I’ve not yet come to grips with twitter though, but watch this space.
Anna Griffin coming to QVC UK for a visit also means the postman is coming too! So many new purchases from her this visit (the golden die cut/embossing machine – WOW), I’m stocked up and ready to craft my socks off until her next visit, although we don’t really see her that often, which is sad, she’s such a lovely lady… were you tempted to try out the crafting?
I also ordered what I worked out to be my 40TH!! Kipling bag too, I’m hooked on the monkey mania prints at the moment – and am now loving the variation in colours on it… so stylish, user friendly and most importantly practical/organisational… how many do you have?
Thanks to QVC my debit card gets a workout every now and then, although I’m sure some would say it gets too many LOL.
I hope you and your family are well, and that you enjoy your time off… I cannot wait to read the new book! – Maybe by then I’ll have worked out how to get it onto my ipad!
P.S. Do you happen to know when Laura Geller is back?

    Hi Magda
Hope all goes well with the ultrasound scan next Tuesday and your op.
We have booked a week in Corsica from Sunday. We were supposed to go to Las Vegas for a friend’s wedding but I couldn’t face the flight and besides what I need is a rest really. Hopefully I will be able to get plenty of writing done but there is no rush to finish the novel, I just want it to be as good as possible.
I’ll let Simon know where to send the ladybirds LOL!

    Hi Hilary
It worked this time – we do seem to get gremlins occasionally! Crikey you are veritable globe-trotters!
My dad was in the RAF during the war and my mum has a picture of him in his uniform in her lounge …. very handsome!
    Happy travels

    Hi Jenny
Thanks for watching QVC and really pleased you have discovered my blog.
I usually reply a bit quicker to posts but technically I’m on holiday at the moment so I’ve been a bit preoccupied this week.
I don’t know about being an inspiration but thanks for saying so.

    Hello Jean
Yes it was a bit busy last weekend with the trip up to Glasgow to see my brother in law in hospital, but I am so pleased I went. It was also lovely to see my sister and my nieces and to get my hands on my great-nephew Sam again!
We are taking a week away in Corsica so lots of R&R planned.
You just know that all the ladybirds I give Simon meet a sticky end!
Wasn’t Oskar good to sit on the tray like that? ….. he is soooo cute

    Hi SJ
I’m so pleased you managed to get the B&W cross ring! What a good idea about the greetings cards – I will have to suggest it to him.
We had a piece of Victoria Sandwich the other day at Glasgow Airport – haven’t had it for years and it was really good for a bought cake.
I don’t have many Kipling bags ( only 6 I think) but I like all of them particularly my cross body waxy finish one in a pewter colour. I also have a small carry on suitcase – very handy for the new restrictions on and luggage being imposed by some budget airlines.
The Charlie Bears all ave such cute faces ad I really like Charlie and Will – they gave me a bear called Daniel when they first came to QVC – he’s wobble jointed, so very floppy.
Hopefully I will get lots of writing doe during this break from work – you can get a kindle app for your iPad – Debbie Flint showed me how to do it!
Maybe see you on twitter soon?

Julia, I know from reading your blog that you are having a lovely time off and having a well deserved rest. I will get back to you dear friend when you return and maybe you can share an address at QVC UK for me to write to you at the new location. I need to do that. Jeff passed away a few weeks ago and was in Hospice for the last week. I could do no more and I did everything any human could do for the years I have been here for him. I am still trying to deal with all the properties and things that go along on with that. I will keep in touch and when you can do give me the QVC details so I am able to write to you. I will look about the web site as well for any info! LUV UR WAY!! XXX

    Hi Julia
Belated Birthday Wishes to your Chris…have you got him tweeting yet?? Love the gift you bought Simon, where on earth do you get them from?
What a lucky girl you are in Corsica, getting some rays, relaxing and writing. The weather here today is much cooler than of late and yes, it’s raining again!! Bobby put his nose through the door and has gone in his bed in disgust…he hates the rain!
Bobby is full of beans again with his Evening Primrose and Salmon Oil concoction and he’s eating like a horse, not a little Westie!
My ankle is getting better and better by the day and I’ve been discharged by the consultant, although she did show me how to massage the scar, with pressure and I nearly hit the ceiling.
We’ve just booked a week away in a luxury cottage in Wales and Bobby comes too! I’m really going for the exercise at the moment AeroPilates with the pull up bar, which I love to bits, it’s brill! Chris has set my bike up on the Tacx, so I can exercise on that also, although some padded shorts me thinks, the new seats are like razor blades! Not sure if I’m brave enough to venture on the road yet though, will wait until my ankle gets much, much stronger!
Enjoy the rest of your holiday!

    Hi Steven
It was a great game to be at – the atmosphere was almost as good as the play-off final! Not only that but I was lucky enough to enjoy the victory from the executive boxes! It was the day after my Chris’s birthday so a nice belated birthday treat for him!
It was vital to get our first 3 points particularly as our next league match is Man Utd at Old Trafford ….. I am under no illusion that survival is a tough road but with the right attitude we will make it.
I hear that Celtic played a benefit match for Stan Petrov …. even a Rangers fan must approve of that?
    Speak soon

    Hi Martin
Sorry for the delay replying to you I have been away on holiday in Corsica. Sophie s away too at the moment – she and a friend have gone to Cuba.
I spoke to Paul Lavers a couple of months ago abut coming back for the 20th birthday celebration but it was only a tentative enquiry as I’m not sure what is planned for the day yet.
Unfortunately I have lost touch with most of the other former QVC Presenters you mentioned but it did bring back some lovely memories just hearing their names mentioned.

    Dear Ginny
I am so so sorry to hear your sad news. I know it was expected and that for Jeff, in the end, it was probably a blessed relief, but it doesn’t make it any easier for you.
Allow yourself to grieve …. you will be busy with all the practical stuff you need to do which is good and keeps you occupied, but you must allow yourself to grieve. Here is the new address:
QVC, Building 8 , Chiswick Park, 566 Chiswick High Road, London, W4 5XU, England.
    Do write .
Thinking of you with much love

    Hi Annette
Great news about your ankle – remember though slowly does it – you are using it in a way that it s not used to so small amounts of regular exercise will e better to get it back in to the old routine. Glad to hear Bobby is on the end too – I think you all need that week away in Wales!
Back in the UK now after our week in Corsica. It was a place I had on my bucket list, so another one ticked off. We had a beautiful villa with a stunning view over Bonifacio ….. perfect for doing very little. The weather was really good except for one morning of heavy rain last Thursday but I even enjoyed sitting indoors watching that! Will write more about it on this week’s blog.
Good luck with your bike saddle!!!!

Ooooh the executive box eh! Very posh. Bet that was good. Yeah I am with you on that Palace have made a decent start. Home form is going to be vital I think. I was down in London this week actually. Really busy but enjoyable. I went to St Paul and also Buckingham Palace. It was really interesting to see the places up close as opposed to on TV.
Yeah definitely puts rivalries even the Old firm one into perspective with things like Petrov’s illness. Although theres obviously a major rivalry between us bordering on hatred at times – I wouldnt wish that on anyone.
Hope you have had a good week. Im away for a lie down now!
