Happy Anniversary sweet sixteens!

Butler & Wilson stretch bracelet As I'm sure you probably all know we're celebrating 16 years of Ali Young having her own shows on QVC, but she has actually been on air with us longer. She started a couple of months after me, back in 1993, and she has been a fantastic source of advice and information about beauty products down the years.

I owe her a special debt of gratitude for her help getting me through my very traumatic time when my psoriasis flared up really badly about 18 months ago. I couldn't use any beauty products at all, but with her help I was able to find pure oils for my skin and my hair that kept things conditioned until I could reintroduce more active ingredients.

I'm also fortunate to count her as a friend even though she tried to get me tipsy on shots after the Beauty Bash earlier in the year! So Happy 16th Anniversary Ali and here's hoping for many more!

Someone else celebrating their 16th Anniversary with us this year is Simon Wilson of Butler & Wilson. His anniversary shows are not until August, but you don't have to wait until then to see him on air as we're launching his TSV together at midnight tonight. It's a very pretty stretchy flower bracelet (above), and for the first time for him we're offering it in two sizes, S/M or M/L. It comes in four colours and is under £25! My favourite is the pink … see what you think tonight.

You know Simon is always moaning that I never go into the shop to see him, well not this time as I popped into London to share a Caesar salad lunch with him on Tuesday.

He has some GORGEOUS things in the shop including some bejewelled bags which I'm trying to persuade him to bring to QVC for his Couture show later in the year. I'm sure we'll also being showing a few photos of model Ali's wedding. I wonder if he behaved himself?

And yet another 16th year celebration coming up this weekend is Elemis. As usual I'm really looking forward to spending time in the company of Keeley Aydin, especially as I missed the recent Today's Special Value.

So all in all a great few days ahead and the promise of some decent weather too … at long last!

Enjoy the weekend.

Much love,

Julia xx

Have to say I’m not a fan of Butler & Wilson…sorry! But I will maybe tune in to see some pics of Ali’s wedding…she’s gorgeous! Do love Elemis though. You’re sooo lucky you have access to Ali and Keeley!! I still have problems with my skin. Hope you enjoyed your few days off there.
    Take care,
    Susan x
PS Do hope you didn’t ‘share’ the one Caesar salad and had a whole one?!

    Hi Julia,
Yes I did get to watch some of Alison on Thursday, sixteen years is a long time and she certainly knows her beauty products. As for Butler and Wilson, one of my favourites, Simon does some beautiful things, I have several pieces of his jewellery and tops, they are stunning. I love watching his show when you are presenting with him, you seem to get on so well together. You also mentioned Elemis, oh dear had planned to be busy in the garden on Sunday, but now realise that Elemis and Kipling are on, looks like there wont be much work done. I use all the Elemis products, they are great.
Yes I did see the apprentice again this week, you are right Tom is a bit slow at coming forward. As for Melody I could not work with her for long before we fell out, she plays dirty. Helen is also my favourite. Anyway have a lovely weekend, lets hope the weather is good. Apart from gardening and some nice walks with the dogs, and of course Elemis and Kipling, this should have my weekend sorted.
    Love Jean X

Hello Julia, i must confess that i have not seen QVC ever, as i just have the ordinary tele, however i feel like i have been watching it as i have heard so much about it, i work here as a cook in a busy central london fire station ( i better not mention it in case red faces might appear) however i have heard your name mentioned on and off over the past few months among the crew, but whatever you were wearing last night seems to have driven them bonkers altogether, these guys are mainly in their 20s and 30s and this morning all the chat around the dining table was Julia Roberts cleavage last night, cleavage was nt the exact word used , one of the lads even took a pic with his mobile and they are going to get it blown up , and made into a wall poster for the station ,could you please advise as to what top you were wearing as i could do with one or two of these myself.apparently you are going to replace Shakira as pride of place on the wall.

    Hi Julia
Watched you and Simon on the repeat this morning…honestly, you are a pair together, you had me in stitches, especially Simon getting worried about your cleavage!!!
Tell Daniel he did a great job on your birthday cake with the decoration.
Watched Ali’s shows and the clips from days gone by, thinking, I can actually remember that clip.
The purple jeans arrived yesterday, but not had chance to try them on yet.
Afraid I’ve had 10 steps forward and 20 steps back this week.
Having seen the Consultant and feeling more positive, especially when he said I could drive…yipee! We decided to try Monday/Tuesday this week, not too far to begin with, I was getting really excited!! I did my usual pilates exercises on Monday, in the afternoon my leg started to ache. The next morning it was aching again and changed colour slightly, so I told Chris I was resting it…it’s been very painful all week and I’ve been back on the painkillers for the first time in months, not something I wanted, but needs must!
I’ve not done any pilates all week and just rested it and it seems to have calmed down a bit, but still feels strange, so if it’s no better next week I will be off to the hospital again to get it checked out.
Sooo annoying, it was going so well, but I suppose I have been using it more and not resting it so much as we had a busy few days last week and the weekend too.
    speak soon

Hi Julia, so very glad it was you doing the TSV with Simon and Ali as it is always a fabulous show when you 3 are together. I bought the TSV bracelet in silver and have many of his pieces as I love them so much – so classy and elegant and unusual. I own Simon’s inonic dancing couple brooch and the chanmpagne glass brooch and have just teated myself to the large lizard brooch as it is a hot pick today. Roll on the postal delivery!!! Thanks so much for showing some of the photos of Ali’s wedding as she is so beautiful and stunning. I stayed up until the very early hours to watch the show until 2am and was so pleased to have seen the pics during that time. Ali looked stunning, as you would expect. Simon is great and really is a true icn himself and seems to be such a great person witha mind of his own which is so heartening to hear in this day when so caledd fashion tries to dictate so much. It is refreshing to listen to Simon’s thoughts and motivation and the way he runs his business and he really does represent all that is great in Great Britain Well done Simon. I will be tuning in at 10pm tonight and looking forward to all 3 of you being together and presenting another great show. I might have to hide my ‘plastic’ though!!!! Thanks for all the pleasure and enjoyment. Love Sus x

    Hi Julia
Just wanted to say how much I always enjoy watching you and Simon – I know you are both cat lovers too. I am writing this with tears flowing as I have had to have my beautiful Siamese cat Phoebe put to sleep today. She would have been 20 years old in September and I feel privileged and proud to have had the pleasure of her company for so long. I know some people will say “it was just a cat” but she meant the world to me and I feel so sad and lonely without her. She was definitely a “one woman cat” and I am so glad I was that woman.
Anyway, just putting my feelings down in writing has made me feel a little better. I know now how Simon must have felt when he lost Timmy – I keep thinking she is going to pop her head in the door and shout at me like she used to! Watching you both tonight will help to cheer me up though and I might just have to treat myself to something.
Bye Julia, take care of yourself and give my best wishes to Simon.

Love B & W and managed to speak with Simon the last time I visited London to see my son and popped into the shop. I like the way Simon interacts with the models, Ali and Renee. It would be good if all the models could have more input when they are on e.g. a mic so we could get a bit of chat and maybe get to know a bit more about them. My fav is Sharon – she is fab – has personality, but they are all great really. Also can we have models who are not so tall so us shorter ladies can have a better idea how things will look. A petite range would be great too!!

PS Julia hope you don’t mind me ‘talking’ to Jan on your page? And PPS See I told you we didn’t believe you that you were ‘made ‘ to wear a low dress the other night!! Your page is always full of cleavage comments!!!

Hi Julia. You, me and thousands of other lovely ladies owe Ali big time! I bless the day I found her on QVC, she is a real star. She should be nominated for a Queen’s Honour or something for services to the beauty industry. You may know what to do about that, I haven’t got a clue! i enjoyed the B&W shows, love watching you and Simon together. I didn’t buy anything though as I was saving my pennies for Elemis. As I thought, I spent an absolute fortune on Sunday but The Q had sent me a 4 pay code which I definitely needed! I tried to ring through at 10pm Saturday but couldn’t get put through :-(
Had to book the day off work today as we had a nightmare experience last night. Went to bed at 10.30pm and we could hear buzzing in the bedroom coming from the light fitting. Chris loosened it and about 20 wasps flew out! Wasps nest in the loft!! After a massive panic, got hold of a local pest controller who, thankfully, came out to us at 11.30pm. Needless to say, we didn’t get a lot of sleep last night. Chris got stung once but, apart from that, we’re ok thank goodness which is a blessing as the pest controller said the wasps were very angry. (I think that was due to Chris swatting a couple of them!) Thank goodness for the Hero pest controllers! I tell you, who needs the warm weather, bring back the cold and rain, I say. x

    Hi Jean
Hope you enjoyed your end of week / weekend with B&W, Elemis and of course Kipling – the striped TSV bag was definitely my favourite, and it was bigger than it looked!
Keeley was on great form …. we were a little bit naughty with the cup cakes, but they were very tastey!
Our weekend weather was good, but yesterday was a bit heavy and humid, and just now we are in the middle of a thunderstorm – very dark outside – good for the garden though!

I don’t know what to say really except that I am very flattered if I replace Shakira on the wall!!
You know you can watch QVC very late at night most nights on ITV – we share a slot called ‘The Zone’ with a gaming show – you never know you might like it?!
The top ‘in question’ was by Butler & Wilson – they have a small shop on South Molton St. and one on the Fulham Road. Apart from that they only sell on QVC in the UK and online. It was green and sequiny and I must confess I had pinned it so as not to be too revealing ….. obviously I didn’t pin it high enough!!!
Thanks for your post – give us a try sometime

I wonder if you have had chance to try on your jeans yet? Keeley was telling me she ordered the ones I was wearing! Diane Gilman is back in a couple of weeks with a TSV – I’m launching with her at midnight so book a late night as they sold out very early last time!
I know what you mean about the ‘Ali’ clips – I wish we still did shows with Ali as the ‘guest’ – I learnt so much from her!
TAKE IT EASY with your ankle – that is an ORDER!

You are right about Simon – he likes to do things his way and really isn’t interested in being in big department stores with the constraints that entails! You are right about his jwellery too – classy, elegant and I would add distinctive.
I always enjoy the shows with Ali too – she is absolutely a lovely girl ….. she had saved me a piece of wedding cake, which I must say was delicious! I think she is one of my models tonight for Nina Leanard fashion at 9.

    Hello Jan
I am so so sorry to hear of your loss – 20 years is a very long time to have had Phoebe as your companion and I know how devastated I felt when I lost my lovely Dylan at age 23. We did already have Poppy as a young cat which I must tell you did help enormously. We now only have Poppy, as we lost Daisy in a road traffic accident, and I cannot bear to think of the inevitable and hoping we have a few more years with her as she is only 16. I know it is a terrible feeling having to have them put to sleep but I’m sure it was the kindest thing – I wouldn’t want Poppy to suffer needlessly.
Sending you a BIG hug and hoping Simon and I were able to cheer you up a bit

Simon really does enjoy spending time in the shop when he is in London. Sharon often does the Joan Rivers shows and she is mic’d for those – we can’t really have them mic’d for the fashion hours cos of the quick changes!
Did you hear Michele Hope is bringing in a Petite range in August – I am so pleased as down the years we have had so many requests for one. Maybe some other brands will follow suit?

    Hi Susan
Of course I don’t mind you ‘talking’ to Jan on my blog – she needs all the support on offer to get her through such a bad time.
I didn’t say I was made to wear the dress – Genevieve chose it for me, I really liked it but didn’t realise quite how low cut it was until I put it on, and then it was too late to change it – like the B & W top I actually had a pin in it to stop it falling open, but the line would have been spoilt if I had pinned it any higher. Think the girls at home liked it too as it sold out very quickly.
I hope your skin starts to improve – I don’t know your age, but I think mine was a combination of hormones along with stress and a reaction to a certain ingredient – one I had used quite happily for years but my skin suddenly decided it didn’t like it anymore!
By the way – Simon and I had a salad each – his with chicken, mine without!

Glad you Southerners had some hot weekend weather…even if we were in the grey cloud and rain! Oh well, couldn’t afford to live in London anyway so we’ll just have to do the fake tan! Glad to offer my support to Jan also. It’s horrible to lose a furry friend.
Oh and sorry to say I don’t like B&W…we’re all different I suppose. I know how many do love it but I have to say it’s not so elegant to me. He wouldn’t have got to where he is though if it wasn’t successful!
    Enjoy your week.

    Hi Julia
Yes Mam (salute)! I will take it easy with my ankle, it has calmed down a bit, but still a little pinchy in places, so am taking care to sit down and rest it inbetween, something I hadn’t been doing…naughty I know, but it was feeling much better and the thought of driving my little puma again since last October was too much to bear…freedom at last!! Will have to wait a little bit longer now though!
I did do a couple of heels this morning on my aero pilates machine and it didn’t feel too bad, but you wouldn’t believe the difference, with not exercising for a week has made…my trousers were tighter on my thighs…eeek!
Had a bit of a nightmare on Saturday, I got up before Chris and went downstairs to put a pot of coffee on and could hear running water and thought Chris had left the tap on in the kitchen. As I walked past the lounge door the noise got louder and I just managed to make out that the ‘fish tank’ was half empty!!! Chris came running downstairs, the carpet was soaking wet and it’s the second time in a month it has happened. The filter is in the lid of the tank and pumps upwards and because Chris hasn’t been cleaning it as often (once a week) it got clogged up and spurted out the back! Managed to get it cleaned up and dried out again, but unfortunately we decided the tank had to go because we would be wondering every night if it was gong to leak again. The fish have gone to a local aquarium shop in their main tank (not to be sold) to live out their days and we can go and visit them.
The tank is in the garage, but the corner unit is still in the lounge and I have just ordered my first Tiffany style lamp from QVC to take pride of place and light the corner up…it’s not an expensive one, but it’s a start!

P.S. Don’t know if this will be of interest, but BBC Four are doing a dance weekend this week, although it starts on Thursday night. Chris and I have just finished wathing the Agony and Ecstacy…following the English Ballet Company, the last one is next week on BBC Four…something to record maybe, I think it’s the Nutcracker next week with all the behind the scenes work that goes into the production.

good for you Julia,! i thinks its a great comment on our society, when men like the fire officers i read about are fantasising about a classy, mature stylish and beautiful woman such as yourself,as opposed to the fabricated type of teen image that is portrayed too often as being appealing, i and the girls in our office think its great that natural style, beauty and lets face it, a fine body any woman would give her right arm to have, wins out , the qvc blogs are great in that they show that qvc is nt just a “we want your money” chanell, its more like a big family where we can joke with and get to know the ups and downs of your presenters, that we get to know as friends that we can trust .

How lovely of you both to think of me and send me your best wishes – I was thrilled to hear from you. I think you are right about another cat Julia and I have decided to get another kitten in a month or two. Dylan must have been much loved to have lasted so long – 161 in cat years!! Do you have a cat yourself Susan or are you a dog person? You must let me know.
I have just started reading your blog Julia and have to say I am one of the 50 somethings to whom you are a role model. Before I started watching QVC I was in a proper “rut” and had lost interest in fashion and beauty but after seeing you looking so lovely, being young at heart and having an interest in all things glamorous I like to think I have pulled my socks up and I now have a new lease of life and love trying out new things. I don’t suppose you remember but I was once watching a Clogau gold show and a lady phoned who told a very sad story about her husband dying. You were very moved by her story and close to tears and I thought then what a lovely, warm and caring person you were and this always comes across when you are on TV.
Perhaps it is because you are a northerner … (only joking all you lovely southerners out there!!)

What a horrible experience for you with the wasps. When we moved into this house there was a wasps nest in the garage which was tricky as we were storing loads of ‘excess stuff’ in there – fortunately non of us got stung! Thanks on the ‘heads up’ on the English National Ballet – that is probably the behind the scenes on the production i am going to see in December – I will look out for it or maybe get Dan to record it for me if I am working!
What a nightmare with the fishtank – good job you went downstairs when you did or there may not have been any fish to live out their days at the local Aquarium. I’ve never really been a fan of keeping fish, but Chris’s Dad kept them and the children came back after a visit one summer with a fish each! I think they may have been called Crystal and Palace LOL! We also had a fish called Mr. Lucky, who wasn’t very as he didn’t last long, and Dougie named after Palace player Dougie Freedman who is now Palace’s manager!
I hope you like your Tiffany Style lamp – I love the ambience they give to a room.

Saw your show with Alison the other night, what a laugh! Would love to know what products you used when you had your unfortunate sensitivity flare up recently. I have been very sensitive for the about the last 8 months or so (not to the extent of yours) and the only products I found comforting was Decleor Rose D’orient and Loccitane pure shea butter. I seem to now have reactions to Elemis and currently using Decleor and Liz Earle. Any tips greatly received.
PS you looked fab by the way!
