HANDMADE (not ‘homemade’) with love

Back in the day, a lady called Carol Smith first got me interested in crafts with her fabulous boxes of products: suncatcher kits, cross stitch, painting and clothes decorating kits – anyone remember them? What was your favourite?

Anyway, having recently done my first few hours of Dawn Bibby crafts, I bought myself a Christmas card making pack, and said on air that I’d buy it in order to spend some 'Mum and daughter time' one weekend, making cards and watching Christmassy TV with my lovely daughter Lauren! Well the weekend has just been!

Lauren and I sat down with our accoutrements: card making pack, glitter, ribbons, cardstock, glue and scissors, and created several quite impressive Christmas cards! (And some quite rubbish ones too, but I won’t show you those ones!! lol).

You have to call them 'handmade' or 'hand-crafted' apparently, the experts say, rather than 'homemade', even though some of mine definitely look more 'homemade'! So, I thought I’d just check in and show you how some of them came out (see video below) – specially to mark the start of the official countdown to Christmas – December 1st.

Where has the year gone? It’ll be my first Christmas back at QVC so I'm looking forward to it immensely!

Some of you commented on my first blog, saying you fondly remembered some of the Christmas and New Year shows, from first time round and I’m glad to say I will be on air New Year’s Eve this year! Can’t promise there’ll be singing though (you may be pleased to hear!) But Craig and I will do our best to see in 2010 with you, if you’re like us and prefer not to 'partay'.

See you on Saturday morning (5th) with more gift ideas, and a 10am Liz Earle hour – can’t wait! I’ve sworn by Liz’s range for the last nine years or so of being away from QVC and it’ll be great to be on air with them again. Then I’ll be meeting up with some of the girls from my writing course in Tuscany – so what with that and more cards, it’ll be a pretty creative weekend! Have a good one!

    Hi Deb
It is good to see you back on QVC I was looking through he channels the other evening couldn’t believe my eyes. I told my husband and he was pleased as well. So glad to see you back where you belong. Followed you on your last tv programme and even emailed you a few times when you were doing the other diet and lost a lot of weight. I did loose some weight but put it back on and more when I stopped.
How is your son doing How did Lauren get on at University.
Take care and hopefully will be in touch soon

    Hi Debbie
Your cards are fab. I am an avid crafter myslef and do cards, kntiing and cross stitch. Watch all of Dawn’s shows. Spend too much, but there are worse things to spend money on and craft has been a great therapy for me. I love it when presenters craft too.
I will no doubt be watching the new year show, as i don’t party.
Loved the Labradorite you had on this morning.
    Love Jules

Hi Debbie – as a long serving QVCer I remember Carol Smith well. I used to buy her glass decorating kits and transform cheap mirrors into works of art for friends and family!!! I also did the hopper windows for my conservatory . I loved those kits.
Well done with the card making- they are lovely!
Merry Christmas to you and your family (real family and QVC family)

Hi Debbie. What a ray of sunshine you are.
My mum is almost 2 weeks dead so I am still hurting. My daughter brought the laptop upstairs to see if it would lift my mood.
I started to read your blog and by the time I had finished I found my spirits greatly enlightened. You are a real gem so natural. Keep up the stories and video clips, Better than watching television. Ask for more air time. When I turn QVC on
and your presenting I compelled to watch for the entertainment
    value alone.
Thanks for bringing a smile to my face at this time
