Sue set up her craft company with her husband over 18 years ago and has been busy over the last few years designing and manufacturing products and also teaching paper craft and design techniques all over Europe!
We found out a little more about what inspires her and she shares a few crafting tips with us too…
1) How did you get into crafting and how long have you been crafting for?
I've always crafted but after working as a theatre set designer where I had to make props from all sorts of bits and pieces, we formed our own craft company.
We supplied products for interior make-over shows like Changing Rooms and Home Front where we manufactured blank, unpainted furniture and accessories to decorate with paint-effects, stencilling and rubber stamping etc… This led us into paper crafting, where we manufactured rubber stamps, paint, inks and powders and became one of the country's main suppliers and then, as they say… 'the rest is history'!
2) What are your favourite craft projects to create and why?
I love rubber stamping, stencilling, mixed media and anything to do with card, paper, wood and fabric.
3) Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I like to look to the fashion and interior design houses to see what new shapes, textures and colours are going to be in vogue in the next season and I'm always really inspired by the other amazingly talented members of our team.
4) What do you think are the hot trends in crafting right now?
Hot trends for next year will be stencilling, rubber stamping and anything homemade.
5) What is your top tip for crafters?
My top tip is don't be too hard on yourself when you are making a project. Everyones' creativity is at a different level and we tend to think someone else is better than we are, so don't give up half way through a project, and remember your projects are handmade by you which makes it so special and you can't put a price on that!
6) What items do you think are essential for every crafter to have?
I believe it's absolutely essential to buy the best quality products you can afford. They'll perform better, last so much longer and help give a great finish to your projects.
7) What are your hobbies?
My passion is for anything I can make by hand, from cardmaking, scrapbooking, sewing, cooking, gardening and spending time with my creative team who are the best fun ever!
