More about Kenneth Kay Lane
Mr Lane started making jewellery in the early 1960s and his designs immediately became sought after by celebrities, royalty and fashionistas throughout the world. Perhaps his first major success came when he started designing jewellery for Jacqueline Kennedy when she was America’s First Lady. Her famous, triple-strand pearl necklace was an original Kenneth Jay Lane design.
Not only did they become great friends but Mr Lane’s pearls became synonymous with First Ladies from then on. As a matter of fact, the famous Barbara Bush faux pearls from Kenneth Jay Lane are hanging in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC.
First Lady pearls
In 2009, Mr. Lane was honored to be asked to design a special necklace for an inaugural gala. As you all may know, the current First Lady is revered as a fashion icon and is rarely seen without pearls of some sort. When her official White House portrait was taken, there she was sporting a two-row pearl necklace.
Even though we are not 100% certain whether the ones she wore in the portrait are hers or a Kenneth Jay Lane version, the only information we can gather is that the pearls in the portrait are part of the First Lady’s private collection.
I hope you can all tune in to hear the amusing and exciting stories about this Kenneth Jay Lane original as well as anecdotes about how honored I am to be working for and with a living design legend.
See you on QVC today (Sunday 21st February) at 12am – 2am, 10am, 1pm and 4pm.
