Guess the gift…

Well, it’s a big day for our family tomorrow as my mum will be 90! She lives in Nottingham, as does my brother, so we will be driving up there in the morning.  hopefully my sister and quite a few of her family will be travelling down from Scotland, health permitting, so that we can have a family get together in her honour.

I’ve had a busy morning baking a chocolate birthday cake and an asparagus quiche for us to have for lunch. We were planning on trying to get a joint present for Mum but, in the end, we all went separate ways.

Our children, Dan and Sophie, have bought her a lovely Radley handbag and Chris and I have bought her what is in the box… any ideas? I’ll let you know next week!

Cat calendarTalking of dates, and tomorrow is circled on the calendar, here is the latest yoga cat calendar pose.

The cat looks quite a lot like Sophie’s cat. Milo, actually and to be honest I can imagine him ‘posing’ for it.

It also reminded me of a brilliant YouTube video my son found – ‘catolympics’… they are so cute, I want to adopt them all!

Have any of you been watching the Rio games? After a bit of a shaky start medals-wise, we are now collecting them in all colours and a wide variety of sports. I have really enjoyed listening to my friend, Bob Ballard, commentating on the diving and the swimming.

Bob (pictured below on the left) very kindly agreed to host my charity swimming gala in 2013 to raise money for British Polio and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research (now Bloodwise). He was also instrumental in getting paralympian James Crisp to take part. James is currently in training for the paralympics in Rio so I hope you’ll join me in wishing him all the best, especially as he a) let me win our swim off race, and b) wear his paralympic silver medal – here we are with Geoff Thomas too.

If you haven’t seen the video it’s quite entertaining, click here to watch it. Someone who has definitely seen it is Nikky Gerwitz from Lola Rose. Last time she was in at QVC she told me her eldest son loves it and has made her watch numerous times – sorry Nikky!

Lola Rose is one of the brands featuring on tonight’s Spotlight on Jewellery at 6pm, along with Frank Usher, Roberto by RFM and Radley. I was quite surprised that we have Spotlight on Jewellery as it is our two day fashion event, but I guess our jewellery is the finishing touch to an outfit, so why not?

Everything on air today and tomorrow is available in 3 Easy Pay instalments, so a perfect way to start putting your Autumn/Winter wardrobe together – despite the promise of 30 degree temperatures next week… phew!

So, Focus on Fashion today is really just a reminder to watch some great brands on QVC. Later this evening we have Biba, H by Halston and Kipling and then launching at midnight it’s the Today’s Special Value from Lulu Guiness (below) which I believe is already available to order here.

Also, make sure you stick with us tomorrow too as we’re featuring Join Clothes, Together and Antthony Designs is back in town.

Do remember that next week we are bringing the brand Label Lab to QVC, launching with a full hour on Fashion on Friday at 5pm.

Must go, I’ve got cards to write, presents to wrap and a cake to ice.

See you at 3pm for MarlaWynne fashion, although I doubt the lovely Today’s Special Value dress I previewed here last week will still be available as it has been selling quickly. After today I’m not in until the Lunchtime Show next Thursday with Miceal.

Have a great weekend,

Julia x

P.S. Just wanted to share this picture that Caroline Archer from Liz Earle tweeted last week from her holiday in France. I get such a buzz seeing my books ‘on location’.

If you want to know more about my books, check my webpage – although, ” ‘im indoors ” is currently working on a gorgeous new website – I’ll let you know when it is ready xx

      Hi Denise
Yes, Mum was born the same year as the Queen – obviously a good vintage! Our celebrations were on a smaller scale but just as heartfelt.

      Hi Jill
Glad you enjoyed my blog this week. Chris (above) guessed correctly that it was a Bernini fountain – Mum loved it!
I thought I was getting on a bot at 60 but 90 is something else. We all had a fab weekend thanks

Thanks for the birthday wishes for my mum Linda – another kitten? She would probably have liked that but not so sure Tabby would have!

    Hi Julia,
Hope your Mum had a great birthday. I’m sure it was lovely for her to have the family all there. Sounds as if lunch was going to be great with your lovely Chocolate Cake and Quiche.

    Love the Yoga Cat pose.

Yes been really enjoying the Rio Games, our athletes have done so well, our Country should be proud of them. I think my favourite was the Equestrian, being a horsey person. And the Dressage well that in my mind is so elegant.

Beautiful Lulu Guinness bag as usual, gorgeous colours.

    Love Jean xx

      Hello Jean
We had the quiche for lunch but saved the cake to share with the extended family at the bbq later in the day – only small pieces as it wasn’t a huge cake!
Because of the time difference I’ve been watching a lot of the velodrome cycling events – amazing achievements from the whole British team!
