This weekend I am taking part in the Breast Cancer Care 26.2 mile Pink Ribbonride at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. I used to cycle quite a bit and when someone suggested it to me I didn't hesitate to say yes, especially as Blenheim isn't too far from where I live.
I thought it would inspire me to get ma old bike dusted off and get going again, but with all my 'Tough Mudder' training (more of that later) I just haven't had the chance. Well I looked my gear out today and the helmet still fits but the bike needs new tyres (both flat) and I really ought to give it a quick service – I haven't been on it for a few years! I feel somewhat unprepared.
I've done a few mountain bike races in my time but I think that 26 miles is probably the longest single trip I'll have ever done. I will look out two pairs of padded shorts to protect my derrière and find a water bottle from somewhere and first thing on Sunday morning I'll hit the road and hopefully raise some money for a good cause. The film crew from QVC will be with me for some of it and we a have a crew doing the sponsored walk the day before so you're bound to be able to catch up with how it went soon.
Now what was that Queen song?……… Bicycle!!
