Gorgeous sunshine and uplifting mottos

I just felt the need to share my lifted spirits with you! Isn't it amazing how a few rays of sunshine and a little warmth can make you feel better – and I wasn't even down in the dumps in the first place.

I get cross when people moan about dull grey days when we have them – they're so frequent my feeling is that you just have to get on with life whatever the weather. But the last couple of days have been glorious and haven't I felt good?! I even see the sun rise (just) before I arrive at work.

I love our four seasons

With the first day of spring on Friday, it's bound to be raining by the weekend, but let's enjoy the brightness while it lasts. These early days with the promise of summer in them make our winters worth the effort, and while I can understand the appeal of living in a warmer climate, deep down I love our four seasons and all they bring to us.

'Life has many shadows, but the sunshine makes them all'

As a teenager I used to run past a pretty cottage in some woods. It had a saying carved into the wood above the front door, 'Life has many shadows, but the sunshine makes them all.' That thought has stuck with me, and has helped me through many a tough moment.

If we don't suffer the bad occasionally, how can we properly appreciate the good? And if such a simple thing as some March sunshine can help you forget your worries for a moment and feel the pleasure of hope for the future, that can't be bad!!

What's your life's motto?

I wonder what time of year is your favourite – do let me know. And if you have a little saying or motto that you like to remind yourself of every now and again, I'd love to hear it.

Enjoy your week, and feel the warmth of the sun on your back if you get the chance.

And if you see someone walking down the street with a silly grin on their face for no apparent reason, give them a wave – it's probably me!

I don’t know what you have done recently but you are looking really good. You seem to be looking younger by the day. What is your secret? Whatever it is keep it up.

Hello Kathy, I love Autumn, Winter and cool Springs. I also love walking in the rain on holiday in the Isles of Scilly. We were on Scilly when you were making a report about the place. All my highlights of holidays there have happened in the rain! It keeps everywhere green. I like grey days because having a light sensitivity (due to having CFS) it means I don’t have to wear sunglasses so often.
I love your inspiring motto and think that we should remember how much we have got.
    Best wishes to you.

    Hi Kathy
My favourite saying (and I can’t claim to be original here I’m sure) is: “Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away.”
When things get a bit bewildering (as they often do!) I like a quote from Buffy the Vampire Slayer:”I think I speak for everyone here when I say ‘Huh?'”
Not very highbrow, but it amuses me!

    Hi Kathy
I know we see each other most mornings but I didn’t get time to give you a motto I like that pinched from Epicurus:
“do not spoil what you have, by desiring what you have not; but remember what you have now was once among the things you hoped for”.
Have a nice bright weekend and see you for a big rollover on Tuesday morning?

    Hi Margaret
I LOVE your saying!! I hope you don’t mind but I’ve adopted it as my own for a while and have spread the word. I even mentioned it on the Morning Show this morning. I’ve decided that I’m going to post my ‘Saying of the Week’ on my blog each week, and will try to find uplifting or thoughtful quotes to share.
Thanks for sending me your thoughts – I really appreciate it.

    Hi Jayne
It’s longer hair and contact lenses, and I’m managing to fit in a bit more exercise which is doing me good too.
    Thanks for noticing!

    Hi Kristina
Yes, I agree, there’s smething wonderful about walking in the rain, especially if it’s not too cold and windy, just lovely cleansing rain. And you’re also right about remembering how much we’ve got rather than moaning about what we haven’t got. It was Maurice Sendak who said ‘There must be more to life than having everything.’
    Best wishes to you

    Hi Nicola
Love the Buffy quote – I might try that next time I have a complicated bit of technology and a super intelligent guest to cope with on QVC!!
Thanks for making me a smile.

Very profound Simon – thanks! It’s amazing how so much can be said with so few words, isn’t it.
    See you tomorrow!

Hi Kathy, i love the seasons too, as a hayfever sufferer summer can be a little tricky, so i prefer spring and autumn. I have to say your looking fab at the mo, longer hair really suits you and if i’m not mistaken your looking slimmer too. I am thoroughly enjoying watching The Morning Show at the moment. I didnt catch the show when someone won the super duper rollover which was at a whopping £600 or so, i wonder if you could fill me in as to what it actually was? I have my own theory that it was a piece of jewellery, was i right? Love Bernadette xx

Hi Kathy, I have lived all over the world and in some very remote places in my life. The motto that has always worked for me in every situation is: Improvise, adapt, overcome.
It’s amazing what you can deal with, 1 month with no fresh water in Thailand, no electicity for 3 weeks in Africa, a toddler with dysnetery, stuck in Zimbabwe for a week with no food other than the snacks mom thought to bring in her purse! But I’m still here and kicking!
