Book covers edit

Writers in Crime – well, Writers in Carluccio’s!

Lovely get together this week when I met up with my original writing pals from the Tuscany workshop, which kicked off my current creative era. Our super support system consists of Litty Williams, Carolyn Mahony and Merryn Allingham (you can find their novels on Amazon). Merryn (also aka Isobel Goddard) has had TEN novels published since 2009 with mainstream publishers including Mills and Boon and Harlequin-Mira. She’s our poster-girl and we’re so proud of her!

Carolyn’s ‘Cry from the Grave’ is a highly reviewed ‘cosy crime’ and Litty is writing a supernatural thriller for her MBA. Then there’s little old me, with my first novel (Hawaiian Affair) coming out this year via superb independent UK publisher Choc Lit. This fabulous team have signed up dozens of talented romance writers many of whom you’ll see on bestsellers lists and also in bookshops,  eg WHSmiths Travel outlets. Hopefully I will be there too this year some time! Gosh that’ll be the best TiFFT* ever!

Am so proud of our little group. We meet a few times a year, this time we met in the newly developed St Pancras Station complex (which my son Brad helped to develop when he was working for Taylor Woodrow). We had a great catch up and also raised a glass to our missing mate, fellow romance author Mary Jane Hallowell, and enjoyed a lovely Carluccio’s meal. It’ll be fascinating to see what the next year holds.

Writing group edit

In the meantime, my next title will be issued free on Valentine’s Day – see bottom of blog for more info.

At Home Spa Day – I’ve been Gommaged!

This week I was also off for a couple of days and on my ‘Saturday’ (which was actually on Tuesday) I had a fabulous session at the chiropractor’s in Dorking. Poor Rik at Balanced Chiropractic had his work cut out though, considering how rigid my joints were, due to the jam-packed January I’ve just had!

That evening I also did a whole exfoliation/relaxing-bath/face-mask routine. O.M.Geeee! Just loved the effect of the wonnnnderful Soapsmith’s Bloomsbury Bath Soak with real petals in, which is part of the item which sold out on my Beauty Weekend Review (207997, on waitlist) at the weekend.

Hope it comes back soon. The smells were so deeply relaxing, the most beautiful rose and xxx. The texture is so wonderfully rich, I drifted off into a floaty place until the bath water got lukewarm and I emerged moisturised and balanced (and a tiny bit waterlogged! Haha!) Then came the Gatineau gommage. See the pic above? That’s the ‘after,’ once it had almost finished drying into a peelable layer, and nearly ready to be stripped off. I waited till it looked shiny – see my plastic face at the top!

scary gommage face edit

Then it was time to take it off, so I loosened it, producing the pic above, then proceeded to experience that rewarding moment when you gradually peel off the rest of it. Now whenever I do this, I’m amazed at how moist my skin is underneath and this time was no different. The best bit though for me, is the removal of the ‘second skin.’ I JUST LOVE IT! Do you? If you’ve never done it before, have a look at this – and listen to the noise it makes as it comes off! Coooool! Or gross, depending on your viewpoint! Haha!

Then I covered my face with my Melatogenine mask and left it on all night and whilst I had a nice night of catch-up telly and writing. Glad I’d already done my Bodyblade, leg master, dog walk etc as I was so chilled out, I found myself crying at virtually all the programmes I watched – including Celebrity USA Apprentice and even Big Brother. What a nitwit! But a smooth skinned nitwit at that.

Antthony Back in da House

Antthony edit

Our fabulous fashionista Antthony Mark Hankins filled our screens with fun last weekend – in fact, two of his bloopers have made it to this week’s slot (see below) – and the one with Ali K is priceless! And for those who love his cowboy era, which he’s currently delighting us with, here’s an exclusive – yes, below those amazingly colourful trousers, on the hand made boots which Antthony wore specially for us, was this incredible artwork – he just loves it! And proudly showed it off to the studio staff after the show.

Cowboy boots edit

His fashions are so affordable and well designed, aren’t they? Here’s a clearance priced hanky hem top that’s a bit of a trademark of his range – and the page also features the ‘Recommend a Size’/ Q-Fit system – why not go have a look at it if you’ve not seen it yet. It’s where you put your measurements in and say what fit style you like, and it recommends which size to go for. Experiment with it – it may help know which size to choose if you haven’t ever tried our fashions before and you’re a bit reluctant to distance shop. Go look at item 102824.

Blooper from Antthony is below – check it out!

Flicks with my Kids

Cinema trip edit

And finally, for this week’s diary, I caught up with my son Brad, and daughter Lauren and her BF Nick, when we all went to the cinema midweek. We chose an IMAX – and it was a TiFFT* for me! Never been to such a big screen with amazing sound before. And it was a very suitable film to see there – Kingsman – see review below. I discovered that ‘Orange Wednesday’ is to end on Feb 25th though – so get cracking if you want to get a buy one get one free in Odeons on a Wed before then.

Brad actually looked a bit like Colin Firth in his long black business coat and black gloves, bless him! And Nick had been sorting out their garden in their lovely little house they have nearly finished after buying it last August. If you recall my updates from the autumn! The lawn is now a lawn and not a muddy rock-field, and it all looks lovely! So nice to have time out with my guys!

BACK TO YOU UPDATE – Facebook Group Continues All Year Round.

Bless our lovely Anne Keating! Look at this! As the wonderful support system continues on Facebook even though Back to You show is officially over for another run, one of our better known faces has contributed this –

Body blade challenge

Anne’s Bodyblade Facebook Challenge You know all those ‘I nominate five people to do so and so’ posts on Facebook? Well here’s our lovely B2U regular Anne Keating’s version – incorporating the famous Bodyblade which we all love. She took it on holiday, curved into her suitcase like Bruce told us, and did a super6 workout vid on the beach and posted it! She admits she’s 72 (‘how did that happen’ she says,) so how admirable! It’s making the best difference to her, and she recommends using it daily. Bruce will be pleased. He’s back THIS WEEK on QVC for a few shows incl 2pm on Tuesday. Can’t wait!

Three Month BB & TTFLS Challenge What with Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 – the ‘When’ Diet now being available on QVC in a limited hardback (with bonus material) and the Bodyblade being back in stock, an just over a week,  it’ll be time to begin our next three month challenge.

Last year’s was excellent with lots of people changing their health habits and taking part. If you’d like to too, do read the book (at time of writing, around 900 or so are left of total 3000 produced in hardback for QVC) and get your chosen exercise device/DVD/plan ready – I want you to register on a three month challenge page on Facebook which will go live as of Valentine’s Day. Or to subscribe to my email newsletter here, so that as many people as possible can take part this year. More news next week! It’ll start once all the hardback orders patiently waiting on waitlist have been delivered, well before mid Feb. We will kick off around 16th. Order yours here from QVC if you want to take part and you haven’t got the eBook already. 704285. (via waitlist, will definitely be fulfilled from the due stock being delivered to warehouse 9-11th)

Webchat This week’s Monday 8-9pm facebook webchat on my Back to You facebook group was with Judith Williams Skincare, Sara answered questions, and Kala from Ego chatted about her products too. Transcripts of the Q&A is on my latest B2U blog on my website where you’ll also find a do-not-miss Monday Essay about ‘The China Study’ – one of the most groundbreaking health/nutrition studies ever – a must-read if you’re poorly and don’t eat well. Go here to read it.

A Hero to Inspire Us All Nick Vujicic (pronounced ‘voycheck’) is an amazing Australian with no arms or legs, but his inspirational videos are doing the rounds again. IF you feel down about some element of your life or your body, or you know someone who does, do watch this. Amazing guy and a lesson to us all about not sweating the small stuff! Find out more about him and his public speaking on too.

Invasion of Privacy edit

Book of the week – ‘Invasion of Privacy’ – a gripping crime thriller with a gutsy cop heroine and her mysterious IT consultant ‘partner’ from author Ian Sutherland.  You can read more about my Book of the Week ‘Invasion of Privacy’ – and full review here.

NB – more about ‘all things book’ on my website on the ‘RiWiSi’ page – Read It Write it Sell it – where you can find tons of links about how to self-publish, writing workshops, book recommendations and links to all my own fiction including my steamy romance trilogy, three or four other novels and short stories and of course my Till the Fat Lady Slims books. Go here if you’re interested to find out more !

Me and Marky Had a fab catch up lunch with my old QVC mate, former head of presenters, Mark West and we put the world to rights in a pub half way between us both, (he lives in Southampton) over Roast Dinner – in my case, nut roast! I’m feeling the love for tons of veggies again atm amidst my Freedom Eating! I have a notion that one day when I’m a grown up (!) I may get a guest house, like his. But a colleague would have to do the early starts! Lol.

Dead poinsettia edit

#PoinsettiaFail! Ohhhh deeeear. Every year. Why does this happen to my xmas plant, why why? I said this on Facebook and got some interesting solutions. What’s yours? See if you agree with the majority verdict – cut it back and dry it out!

Watch. Kingsman – with Colin Firth. It’s a fabulous film – soooo good on the IMAX screen in Wimbledon this week, with my kids. Skyfall crossed with a touch of from the maker of Kickass amongst others, it’s gritty with a capital G, but stops just – JUST – on the right side of too violent. A couple of twists at the appropriate time and tons and TONS of action, plus reaaaaally likeable heroes mean this gets a high 8.75 out of ten from me – very nearly a nine. 8.9. There! Enjoy!

Sneaky peek! The upcoming Liz Earle 6pc collection is Today’s Special Value next weekend – treat yourself for Valentine’s Day! – on Saturday 14th . I’m off that day. But I can’t tell you what I’m doing just yet. Cos I haven’t decided! Haha!

Liz Earle

Shhhh! An unusual one – a one-show-only type bargain for Richard Jackson, 11pm Thursday and a BIG OPI one on Sunday 15th at 11pm! Put it in your diary!

BLOOPER ALERT –  Antthony and Ali K, Antthony and FUN! And check out his boots, above!

This week on QVC – watch out for the following Today’s Special Value bargains

  • Saturday brings us a gardening theme through the day with Wet and Forget mould remover from RJ himself and on Sunday (8th) it’s a new Dyson cylinder Vac
  • My Sunday midnight launch of the Vionics Sandals is worth a watch – it’s Monday’s new TSV
  • Wrinkles and pigmentation? Watch out for my launch, midnight on Tuesday of the Lightstim Gen 2 – its infrared beams are scientifically proven to help reduce wrinkles, plus it’s got an amazingly long money back guarantee so you can try it out properly. Looking forward to it!

Competition Winner!

Well done Jill Wright who won the bundle of powerful skincare from newly launched Strivectin – and congrats to  Tanya who won the super duper 50ShadesOfGrey set. Going to see the film on Friday 13th – are you? (See trailer below.)

 OPI shades - 207810

Question of the Week – which of these covers would catch your eye, romance readers? I need your feedback asap. My latest new story which I wrote just before Christmas will be in it – renamed ‘Battle of the Exes’ – can’t wait to see what you think! Fiona is an ex A-list Celeb, whose old pal persuades her to take part in a reality show to find a man from amongst her former lovers, the winner getting a suitcase full of cash, or her hand in marriage. But there’s something odd about the studio… That and five other stories will be in it. Leave me a comment below – which cover do you like best? ‘Roses are Red’ – a freebie next weekend for Kindle or Kindle app! Whoop!

Book covers edit

Next week – dining out with Bruce and more Bodyblade tips; and ‘Roses are Red’ freebie begins. Debbie Does Dinner – a veggie box delivery challenge! And it’ll be time for the Red Room – the long awaited movie #50shades! – so here’s the latest trailer of Christian Grey doing some, ahem, shopping!

Have a great week!

    Hi Debs (fellow night owl!)

Thanks for the competition last week – can’t believe I won (my TFTFT – and I’m hooked)! I love the Soapsmith products too – that body melt is to die for – I really hope QVC work with this brand to bring us more of the fabulous range.

My vote is for the cover on the left (as I’m not very good at telling my right and left apart, I’ve double checked this with someone!).

Looking forward to receiving your book later this month.

    Hi Deb’s,

The book on the left is the one I prefer as it is really eye catching in a dark and intriguing way.
