Glamour Puss!

Wilfy eatingI was just thinking what I’m writing about in this week’s blog and the title Glamour Puss jumped into my head, making me wonder whether a) people still use the expression much and b) where it originated? Either way it seemed the purrfect title for this week’s epistle.

More on Wilfy later but I thought I would start by urging you to stay up until midnight tonight as Simon and I are launching the Butler & Wilson TSV at midnight. You have probably already seen it on quite a few of the presenters and models over the last couple of weeks. It is available in three different colour options (pictured below), is very movie-star glamorous, and is a fantastic price.

There won’t be another B&W TSV this year and I have a feeling it might be rather popular. I have an hour with Simon to kick off the day and then we are together for his final show of the day at 8pm. I hope we will still have some beautiful pieces to share with you…there may even be an OTO!?

Prior to my 8pm show with Simon I have L’Occitane at 4pm. I am only about a third of the way through my Almond Shower Oil from the last TSV and I still have the whole refill to go. I should mention that I DO bathe or shower at least once a day, in case you were wondering!

Peter Kaiser shoesThen at 5pm we are revamping Fashion on Friday. Those of you who watch regularly will know that I’ve referred to it by that title for the last fifteen years, since I inherited the slot from Steve Whatley, but apparently it has never officially been called that.

The show will be pretty similar to how it has always been but the plan is for us to have a featured brand each week, more new styles and also each week there will be something called ‘Julia’s Pick’. The brand we are featuring in this week’s show is Peter Kaiser Shoes and here’s a little heads up on my first ‘pick’. Item number 113876, available in black or purple.

I wouldn’t be able to wear them as the heels are too high for me but I think they are the perfect shoe to wear with your LBD either daytime or evening. We’ve been running a little advert for it and if you haven’t seen it yet you can watch it below.

Wilfy at the scratching postSo at last we get to Wilfy the kitten! We were a bit worried last week as he didn’t seem to be eating much and he had a slightly upset tummy. I called the vet on Monday and the nurse said he needed to come off his baby milk and to stick to the same brand of food. It has done the trick. He is not missing his milk and consuming plentiful amounts of hard food and a sachet of moist food a day.

Last night my daughter Sophie brought his brother, Milo, over to play while she enjoyed a home-cooked dinner of asparagus, pea and spring onion risotto. After a slightly growly hissy start they had great fun playing on the climbing post, with a ball of wool and chasing a ball – according to Daniel, Milo had better ball skills and he should know as he’s a football coach!

The only problem with Wilfy now is his sleeping arrangements. Our older cat, Poppy, is still not ‘loving’ him so we daren’t leave them in the same room overnight, which means Wilfy sleeps in our en suite bathroom. He is a really good boy until 7am when, regular as clockwork, he wakes up and starts miaowing loudly and insistently.

Poor old Chris has the job of quietly removing him, his litter tray and his food bowls when I’ve been on a late shift. We’re hoping that Poppy will eventually accept Wilfy…she doesn’t have much choice really.

I have a few days off after tomorrow but enjoy your weekend and I’ll see you next Thursday with the Trinny & Susannah TSV launch.

Much love,
Julia xx

    Hi Julia,
The expression Glamour Puss is something I have not heard said for a long time, I guess it is still used.
The TSV from Simon looks great, lovely design and colour’s. He does design some lovely things. Looking forward to the show at 5pm. Love the dress you are wearing in the video, colour suits you.
As for Wilfy he is gorgeous, I am glad he is eating better now, you worry about them especially when they are so young and small. He is very photogenic. It must be difficult for Poppy, as she has had you and your home to herself for a long time, and as she is older it is more difficult for her to accept an energetic kitten. Hopefully one day they will get on.
Your risotto sound’s delicious, will have to try it. I love asparagus, and combined with the spring onion and peas, really good.
Anyway Julia enjoy your time off, have a good rest and lots of cuddles with Wilfy and of course Poppy.
    Love Jean XX

    Hi,
I’m not sure that you will approve this for publishing but I sure hope you do. I was going to buy the Butler and Wilson TSV at midnight and actually had it in my basket when Simon came out with the fact that he didn’t bother with reviews and never read them! I was shocked as how else does a person find out what the customers truly think and if there has been a problem with it? I decided because of this not to buy.
I have purchased quite a few items from Simon in the past and one particular item I loved was a Calla Lily brooch he did and bought it with some birthday money. I kept it for a special occasion so was out of the 30 day money back guarantee, however when I wore it I was devastated that the clasp broke and the brooch fell to the floor outside. I was thankful for not losing it but I cannot wear it because of the broken catch! :( None of his items are ‘cheap’ so we do have an expectation that they should be of a certain quality.
Anyway I just wanted to say that really and will still watch as I am a bit of a magpie when it comes to sparkles and you certainly get that with Simons pieces.

Wilfy is absolutely adorable, I can see him having his own facebook paw, sorry page. There is something magical about black cats I think. Our one was a witches cat in a previous existence, I am convinced of it. She has a very sneaky streak and tends to hide under the table till you are passing, jump out and bite your ankles. So beware once Wilfy has bigger teeth ! On a different note it is great to see you continuing to look so well, and I was going to say a great advert for us fifty somethings, until I forgot that I was 60 earlier this month. Oh dear, senior moments already. Take care. Morag x

    Hi Julia,
I did post on the first page of your previous blog, maybe you missed it. There is something about black kitten’s don’t you think i’ve had a couple, both females and lovely nature.I now have a ginger and white neutered male and he is so soft it’s unreal. We had him from 8 weeks old along with his sister, who unfortunatly died at 6 months with a kidney problem. But “Ollie” is so lovable i would have a house full of cats if i could.
I was at the Match last week traveled up with a friend they had a spare ticket, good seat’s, don’t know where you sit so didn’t know where to look.lol Interesting game though. Not a good result this week for you, it was a long hard slog to get back to the premiership, but it’s even harder staying there. It was only a while ago since Ian and I were watching Pompey in the Cup Final, at Wembley, now look where we are, but getting better. We only have young players not much money but hopefully we will survive as the song goes. And the very loyal and noisey supporters of course. Off to the Gambia end of November, so looking forward to it.But will be a bit of a rush for Christmas when we get back , might have to buy everyone Duty Free’s and pick them up on our return.
    Bye for now

    Hi Julia,
Thanks for replying to my last blog, I will “hunt” out your book via Amazon or the High Street. I know I will enjoy it as you are always so eloquent on screen and you have had things to overcome such as illness and ill-health. You really do look amazing, I am about 10 years younger but don’t look half as glam as you do!
Glad to hear that Wilfy is on the mend – he looks very cute! It can be difficult with cats accepting kittens as from experience some of them just never hit it off with each other – but they do learn to tolerate each other. I’m not sure if that’s much comfort but he must be adding so much fun to things apart from the early wake-up calls!
You take care and I hope you had a relaxing weekend,
    Beth XXX.

    Hi Julia
Not been on for a while, but I have been watching!
Firstly, so sorry to ready about yet another friend and work colleague going to sleep, especially one that was a rock when you were first diagnosed, must have been very sad and hard.
I thought Simon was really sweet when you stood in for Jilly, asking if you were ok and not too tired…he really is a good friend.
As for Wilfy, he is gorgeous and glad to hear he is eating better now on solids, but you know me and cats, nice to look at, but…say no more.
Thought I’d take the bull by the horns, so to speak and tackle this dreaded cholesterol…a while ago I had blood tests and when I phoned for the results, I always repeat and write down, I was told it had gone from 9.1 to 5.1, you can immagine my surprise when a couple of weeks ago the Dr, whilst looking at my details said he was concerned it was 8.1, which sounds nothing like the 5.1 I had heard. He sent me to the Nurse for a risk assessment of heart attack in next 10yrs, which came back low, but he didn’t want to see me after the visit to the Nurse, so I went home bewildered.
Decided, that was it, so for the past few weeks I’ve cut out bread completely, I have porridge with oat bran, rice bran, a few coco nibs, goji berries (scrummy in porridge) and almond milk and have even taken a leaf out of your book, not literally of course, that would be sacrilege, but now make my porridge on the hob instead of microwave, after reading an article from a girl who had boiled water in a microwave and on the hob then used it to water 2 identical plants with once cooled and within 2 days the one with the microwaved water started to wilt! Must say, far creamier on the hob.
Lunch time I have made a stock pot full of homemade veg soup, carrots, leek, potato, chick pea and cannelli beans, lasts for days. Evening meal fish/chicken with veg, followed by EasiYo greek and coconut with fresh fruit.
I have also upped the exercise, one day AeroPilates, the next Kettlebells…saw the locum yesterday and voiced my concerns and I have more bloods tomorrow, so I’m hoping to have done enough to reduce things, without the need for tablets, fingers ‘X’!
Looking forward to seeing you again on air, take care and as you tell me, don’t overdo things, I know how busy you are.
    love
    Annette x

Lovely to read your reply to my last email julia, and so pleased to see Wilfy is getting on so well,he is just adorable!! We still keep procrastinating on getting a kitten, as our last cat used to have Martyn up at night wanting to be let in, or out of our downstairs bedroom. So I am just wary of another cat doing the same thing. Have read up on training them from tiny to stay in and sleep at night, so fingers crossed it would work! Any tips from you and chris will be gratefully received!!
Lovely to see you with simon last week, I always enjoy your shows together and seeing the beautiful Ali.
Really hope your newly named Friday fashion show takes off as you are always so good at presenting fashion, so hope it becomes a success like morning style on wed with Kathy.
Hope you have enjoyed your few days off and look forward to the tsv on Thursday!
Take care, sending you much love Diane xxx

    Hi Jean
The dress I was wearing in the Fashion on Friday promo is a Trinny & Susanna and guess what? The TSV that I am launching Thursday midnight is Ztrinny & Susanna! Have got 3 of their dresses now and find them a good fit for me.
The Butler & Wilson TSV was very popular …. I’m back with Simon on Friday for his B&W world couture show premiere …. exciting!
Wilfy is much better now, eating well and full of play and cuddles. He has his first jabs tomorrow. Poppy is gradually accepting him but still hissing if he gets too close!
    Speak soon

    Hi Christine
I mentioned your blog post to Simon. I completely understand your point of view with regard to feedback however I think Simon’s point is that our website reviews are really more about opinions and we don’t all like the same things. It is quite hurtful when you read reviews that are malicious and unfortunately they are the ones that you remember rather than all the lovely ones.
If you ever have a problem with a piece of his jewellery again please write to him at his shop.
    Hope that explains his comments

    Hi Julia
‘Glamour puss’ eh …… well if the cap fits and all that … and it certainly does for you gorgeous lady!
I need to have a word though Julia. The temptations on your blog may mean I have to stop reading it. Take this blog for instance …. after reading it, I bought the B&W TSV in silver …. and three … yes three pairs of shoes! Two pairs of Marta Johnson shoes and a pair of Peter Kaiser’s .. though not your Pick which were just a tad too high for me. So lots less of the ‘this is what i’m selling this week’ if you don’t mind please. At least until my bed is paid for!
I’m sorry to say though the PK shoes are coming back. They’re gorgeous but a little too big. I’m going to ask for an exchange to size 5 but I fear they may be too small! Anyway, worth trying as I do love them .. item no 113870 if you want to have a look see at my shoe taste. One pair of the MJ shoes is too small …. this is beginning to sound like ‘Goldilocks and the Three pairs of shoes’!!! Yes, you’ve guessed it Julia, the other pair of MJ shoes is just right!! Pretty perfect in fact and purchased at ‘last clicks’ price to boot! (154850 in red …… FAB YOU LOUS DAH LING!)
I’m so glad little Wilfy is all better. Give him a big cuddle from me.
Hope you’ve had a good rest and break. Glad to see Ali Young back today after being poorly. She must have been really ill to miss Beauty Day. Even Chris said on Sunday “Beauty Day and no Ali or Julia”!! I’ve got him well trained!! I’m looking forward to a week off work myself next week.
    Love
    Marian
    xx
PS. In answer to your question about swimming … I CAN swim but will only swim in a pool where I can stand up with my head fully out of the water. i don’t swim regularly though. xx

    Hi Morag
Happy birthday for your big 60 …. do you still get a bus pass or is that later now too like pensions!
Wilfy has very sharp teeth and scratchy claws …. trying to encourage him to use them on his toys and his scratching post rather than me! He is adorable though I don’t think he’ll have a face book page before me LOL!

    Hi Kathy
I checked my last three blogs but I couldn’t see a post from you?? …. Am I going crazy?
Which game did you watch at Selhurst, Arsenal or Fulham? Thought we did surprisingly well against the top team in the Premier League – we are lacking a goal scorer at the moment (not to mention a Manager).
My daughter Sophie has adopted Wilfy’s brother who is a little ginger tom. He is totally different from Wilfy, bigger and chunkier and more cat like – Wilfy is still such a baby – first jabs tomorrow.
Hope you and Ian have a great time in The Gambia

    Hi Beth
Thanks for your kind compliments – I really hope you will enjoy my book …. it is a bit different from a regular autobiography but I thought I would try something new based around numbers. Let me know what you think when you’ve read it. As for looking glam – thank goodness for make-up and lighting!
Poppy is a little better with Wilfy now – she still hisses a bit but she seems to have accepted that he’s living in the same house so I guess that’s a paw in the right direction. Not a very relaxing weekend really as we kitten-sat Sophie’s kitten, Milo and they were very ‘playful’!
We have now moved Wilfy to a downstairs room overnight so much better in terms of early mornings!

    Hi Annette
Amazed to hear about the experiment between the microwaved water and the boiled water … I’ve never been a fan of microwaves particularly when it is almost as quick to make on top of the cooker. Sounds like you’ve been making a real effort to reduce your cholesterol so I hope your blood tests were good? Are you still on medication because that can have an effect on cholesterol and blood pressure.
Your soup sounds good – I’ve been doing minestrone, leek & potato and peanut butter …. Now the weather as changed it’s soup season!
Haven’t had much of a relaxing time as we are house-hunting with a vengeance … the house we are renting is under offer so looks like a mid January move! Managed a bit of writing today but haven’t had much time.
Keep me posted on your results

    Hi Diane
We weren’t intending to have a new kitten but I couldn’t turn him away once Sophie had rescued him. He is still supposed to be Daniel’s but I have become very fond of him. When he’s very tired he nuzzles into my neck – Wilfy not Daniel of course! We have successfully moved him from our ensuite bathroom to a downstairs room and he seems to have accepted it. Sophie had bought him a little igloo bed with a microwaveable cushion in it and wherever that is Wilfy just settles into it …. he really is a good boy.
Looking forward to seeing Trinny & Susanna for the TSV launch … Fashion on Friday is Kim this week and then I’m with Simon Wilson again at 7pm.
    Much love to you too

    Hi Julia
Yes I do get a bus pass here in Aberdeenshire, which gives me free bus travel – have to have some perks when getting older ! It is useful and I am definitely going to make use of it, especially with the increasing cost of fuel, parking etc. Glad Wilfy is feeling better. It sounds as if he is thoroughly spoiled already !
Take care and thanks for the birthday wishes – I had a fab time and received an IOU for ballroom dancing lessons from my husband. Considering he hates Strictly with a passion, and that I absolutely love it, I think he has scored quite a few Brownie points.

    Hi Morag
Glad to hear that you had a fab birthday ….. have you started your ballroom dancer lessons yet? My Chris is not a good dancer. He has great timing ( he’s a drummer ) but two left feet!!
Loving strictly this year …. a few contenders to win but Natale is still my fave … how about you?
Wilfy is just off to the vet for his 2nd injection so hoping for less of a reaction this time
