Getting up close and beautiful

Up close and… Beautiful!

That’s the name of the Today’s Special Value on Tuesday 19th September from Doll 10.

All I can say to you are Pipa Gordon’s words: “Oh my, your skin looks amazing.”

Well thank you Miss Pips I will take that and run with it… what a lovely compliment and I have to say (as a girl who prefers her face without foundation, make-up yes, I LOVE but actual foundation is my least favourite bit), I struggle at QVC sometimes having TV make up.”Strong eyes, black liner, warm coppery shades, pretty cheeks and as little as possible foundation. Oh and no powder” is my phrase after yelling “Moooorning!” as I breeze in for the Morning Shift. June and her team of make-up artists must have a nightmare with me.

Pips’ compliment came just after I had the Doll 10 TSV applied by Lauren. We were catching up on families and work etc and she just came out with it… so seriously, this stuff must be GOOOOD. In a great coverage yet light and cooling, kind of way! It didn’t feel at all heavy, thick or cloying then, or hours later, yet the coverage from the Hydralux foundation was superb. We added a smidge of the Liquid H2 Glow Illuminator, which felt so refreshing on the skin and stayed soft, subtly illuminated the cheeks without drying out (oh and it didn’t look too white or sparkly either which is super important I think) a slick of the soft berry pink Hydrogel lippie and an extra touch of the HydraGel Concealer and boom – job done… await YOUR compliments!

Doris approaches everything she creates at Doll 10 with such knowledge and her quest is to improve upon what is currently on offer out there. Plus, she’s wicked! In a great way, a fabulous personality, a super kind heart and she just exudes loveliness. It’s always the greatest of pleasures to have a show with her… we laugh lots!!! So I hope you will be able to catch the shows on Tuesday with Doris, I shall be on The Morning Show with her at 9am.

Possibly another reason for the skin comment could have been A’kin as I had just popped into a meeting to catch up with Lisa who is the guest for the brand on air. The meeting had us sampling the range (perk of the job!) and as I was pre-make up it was perfect timing.

A’kin turns 30 this year, they are the pioneers of natural skincare whose purity of recipes coupled with a unique extraction method of CO2, ensures potency and a perfect marriage of those natural ingredients. Their Rosehip oil/serum is legendary but as it’s not a range I am familiar with I was thirsty for knowledge and have come away super excited about the range and eager to experience it and in particular their Micellar water, the easiest yet most efficient of cleansers has coconut suspended in green tea, which envelopes the skin, thoroughly whipping away all make up (Doll 10 or otherwise!) and smells so fresh (that will be the cucumber!) that it’s almost edible! Plus The Cellular Radiance serum is taking A’kins classic Rosehip serum to another level with anti-ageing ingredients that are light and so readily absorbed by the skin, it’s going to be a joy to try I am sure, I will let you know how I find it.

It is lovely to be back at QVC after my summer break , the Autumn fashions are well and truly available and varied now and let’s face it we seem to have the weather to embrace them do we not?!

I loved the Kim & Co skirt I wore on Style Live at 4pm on Wednesday and the Clarks boots I put it with have turned into a must buy… It was so interesting to work on Wednesday with Ashling McCloy, she’s a superb fashion editor and I loved seeing her transform the simple looks we featured on the show with some amazing accessories… ideal if you’re in the rut of pulling on the same simple things for speed or convenience, a little cheeky addition makes a wealth of difference, so experiment away! We talked after the show and “QVC is simply bubbling with so many great things…” were her words…in fact I am about to peruse our website and check in with some of the things I’ve seen on air myself… it’s nippier that’s for sure so the long cable cardigan  Glen and I had on air would be a great buy, I need to see what colours are still available!

We sloped off last weekend to say farewell to summer in one of my favourite places, Aldeburgh in Suffolk. I felt a need to be there and it sated my thirst for calmness and tranquility, the chance to re engage and feel happiness, that’s how I always feel there and it was much  needed.

I touched in my last blog about sadness this summer… I spent time by the sea thinking of a beautiful boy who is no longer with us, of his incredible infectious smile, of his family who are so precious to me and who now have to find their way in this life without their darling sunshine boy, their courageous son and brother… The last piece of the poem When Great Trees Fall by Maya Angelou was read at the celebration of his life and I think it was simply perfect.

And when great souls die,

after a period peace blooms,

slowly and always

irregularly. Spaces fill

with a kind of

soothing electric vibration.

Our senses, restored, never

to be the same, whisper to us.

They existed. They existed.

We can be. Be and be

better. For they existed.

They existed. They existed. We can be. Be and be better. For they existed.

I will hold that in my heart and live moments in the here and now, just as he did and yes…. I shall be… and be better.

And that I feel is a perfect end to this blog… let’s all try to be and be better.

With my love,

Claire

Xx

What a beautiful poem. Two of my gorgeous boys are no longer with us and I thank God every day for every single second they were with me. I think as time passes and the pain melts away a little we begin to feel their presence alongside us more and more. I will keep your friends in my prayers x

Beautiful words from a beautiful poem, no doubt for a beautiful soul. Like many, I have lost loved ones and it always seems too many and too soon. But, I thank you for writing this blog and reminding me of this poem. At the end of the day, it is a sentiment I think we all wish could be said about us. I wish your friends peace and too you too.x
