Getting ready for Christmas TV

2

Now is the time to get serious about Christmas. Some people already have their Christmas trees up (like our technology guest Mr Lee Hohbein!), so I feel like I am way behind already. As a child, one of the major planning events of the season was myself and my brother sitting down with the Christmas TV Guides and planning out all the TV shows and films we were going to watch (access to the TV was fairly strictly regulated the rest of the year). We would browse those pages for hours, negotiating who would get to see what. Trading a Wizard of Oz for a Sound Of Music, or a Star Wars for a James Bond. Second only to writing our letters to Santa, this was one of the best bits of getting organised for Christmas.

Now that I’m a grown up, I no longer need to negotiate with my brother, though he is coming to visit me for Christmas (along with my lovely Mum who I thought might not be able to make it this year), so there may still be some negotiating to be done!

Instead, what I have already started to do is to record lots of festive movies I know we will all love sitting down together to enjoy. I’ve already got It’s A Wonderful Life, Holiday Inn and A Christmas Carol. Great classics that the whole family will love.

My next concern though, is my television. Is it big enough for all of us to see properly? If I miss something, is it a smart TV, and does it have catch-up? Is the picture quality going to do those old classic movies justice? That’s why I am thinking about getting the new Samsung TV we have coming up as a Today’s Special Value this weekend.

The Samsung UE50MU6120 50″ Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV (phew!) lets you experience beautifully vibrant colours with exceptional clarity and contrast. You can really fully immerse yourself in your favourite programs and movies, and watch as though you are part of the action.

From the Queen’s Christmas Message to the special episode of your favourite soap, the television – second only to the dinner table – is the focal point around which most people gather at Christmas time. Well it is in our house, anyway. I want this Christmas to be special and for everyone to have the best time; I think having the perfect telly could certainly help with that. With a huge saving (compared to going direct to Samsung) and with 4 Easy Payments, I’m definitely willing to give it a try!

If you want to go the whole hog and get a full entertainment package, why not think about a Blu-ray player to go with it? We have two great options from Samsung available (which I’ll tell you more about in a minute). Maybe all you need to buy as gifts for the family, is their favourite movie or TV box set on Blu-ray, for them to enjoy whenever they like. Christmas sorted!

Speaking of which, gifts are the next thing on my festive preparation list. It’s always a quandary choosing the right gift. Should you get them something silly and frivolous, or, should you get them something useful and worth the money you are spending?

Well, having never been someone with limitless Christmas funds, I’ve always opted for the ‘something useful that is worth the money’ approach. This year, though, I may have spotted a gift that treats both me and someone else.

I have coveted the idea of a car dash cam for some time now. This is due to a few scary moments with crazy drivers pulling out in front of me without indicating or just generally driving so badly that it looked like they’d let their three year-old drive for them! Each time one of these incidents has occurred I’ve thought I need to get a dash cam, so I have a record of what happened. Well, now I can get one and give one as a gift for someone else as well, as we have a set of two Dash Cams from RAC.

I’m unaware of any other brand that supplies dash cams as a twin pack, and I think it’s a great idea. Each dash cam comes individually gift boxed and with an 8GB SD card, so they are ready to gift the moment you receive them.

With RAC, you can be assured of the quality of these dash cams. Each one is a high performance HD recording camera with a 3″ LCD display, 120 degree viewing angle, glass lens and G-Sensor. From gadget fanatics to everyday motorists, this is the perfect gift to give peace of mind when you are out and about on the road.

RAC are dedicated to making driving easier for us and, well, they just made my Christmas shopping easier too. Watch out for this Today’s Special Value coming up this weekend!

Until next time,

Miceal

Such a large TV screen, if you buy it you should have a large room to get the best out of the picture.
