Over the years I have tried quite a variety of sat navs – different manufacturers, in-car or stand alone, dedicated or apps on phones etc. So when I was asked to take the TomTom TSV out for a spin I have to admit that I was expecting a pretty 'same ‘ol' experience… wrong!
The TSV is a TomTom GO LIVE 825 and this means it really does seem to know the best way to take you! It’s the live part which makes all the difference.
It has the equivalent of a SIM card inside and because that communicates with TomTom HQ it can tell you where all the traffic problems are, and re-route you in the best way. Now, if you doubt the efficiency of this, do what I did and test it out… you’ll be surprised.
I have a regular commute to work and almost all sat navs want to take me down the M1, which I know from experience would be a disaster especially at certain times of the day. It may be the most direct route but it quite simply is the 'wrong' route. This TomTom never suggested that I took that route and one morning it took me a different route entirely, from my normal way in, and I have to say it’s a new way to me and a very good one (I’ve been doing this journey for nearly 10 years so I thought I knew them all!).
Interestingly, one day I was returning home via another town and I know that the most direct, quickest and easiest route is up the M40. The TomTom suggested I went another way and of course being a man, I thought I knew better and went the M40 anyway… wrong! There were several massive accidents on the motorway and I got delayed by over an hour!
I was sceptical about this new offer from TomTom but when you include the lifetime of map updates that you get with QVC (normally worth nearly £80) I think this is definitely the one to try. It’s certainly much better (and cheaper) than any sat nav I have ever tried that's built in to any car (and that includes BMWs, Jaguars and Mercedes) and it’s the first one that I have used that I could really trust – the estimated time of arrival it told me was always uncannily accurate!
This weekend will see this TomTom at a great price for one day only so join us all on Sunday August 18th for a good look at a great sat nav.
