From Sunny Spain to Blustery Britain..all in a week!

Hi all,

I've had a very busy week at QVC since returning from my Menorcan break with the young uns but have managed to find a few minutes to reminisce over the holiday photos. Just thought I'd share some with you.

This was our first time to Menorca and I have to say it far exceeded my expectations! What with both of the kids going on to further education and growing up so fast I wanted us to have a few days away together, just the three musketeers! It was fan bloomin tastic!

097 We even love the anticipation of the airport although I get nervous!

I had arranged for transfers from the airpost to the hotel on the Santo Tomas resort but nothing could have prepared me for the surprising size of our 'transport'. I was told there would be car to take us but when we got there it was an entire coach!! Just for the three of us!!

We found this most amusing! Probably incredibly wasteful too when you think about it but I did feel a lot safer on a big coach than I did in a taxi we took on a day out whilst here..hair raising to say the least!

You can see the beautiful view through the coach window. We were right on the beach. It couldn't have been a better location!

August 2010 158 045 When we arrived the room wasn't quite ready so we had some lunch at the hotel's al fresco dining area whilst we drank in our surroundings.

The weather was fab, of course, as you can see here.

There was live music on a couple of the nights which I simply loved listening to as we sat on the terrace overlooking the pool.

Just look at the pool at nightime! Something about the blue that just so calming, isn't there?

August 2010 101My daughter was happy laying in the sun and reading her books, she has to do a lot of swotting before the next term begins so it was a perfect opportunity.

Tom isn't as keen and wanted to see some of the island so we took some time go and visit the port of Mao for a few hours. It was great, so pretty and clean. We looked around the open air markets and got a lovely leather cuff for Tom which was handmade by a friendly man with a fab smile and really long dreadlocks.

We always like to go into the supermarkets to seek out funny 'lost in translation' names on products. Sure enough I found one worthy of posting here. I give you…. Bimbo Baps!

069 We had some great walks along the bridle path which runs alongside the beach. There are two photos I can't show from one of our walks though! There was a naked man smiling happily as he stood in he sunshine chatting with friends! It certainly gave us a giggle and I pretended o take a pic of Tom & Chrissie but actually I zoomed in and got a pic of Mr Naked!! Well, it was part of our holiday and will be funny to look back on later..it is already!!

So, immaturity aside, it was a lovely holiday with two fabulous young adults ( well, Chrissie is near enough an adult now) who just happen to my wonderful children!

I used hypnotherapy prior to flying to help me cope with my nerves but there was one thing on the flight that did disturb me slightly, look closely..

August 2010 167 August 2010 166 I guess it must not have been as important as all that as we made it home safe!!!

We did have rather a heavy landing though, perhaps that was why? Hee hee.

I hope you've had a great summer so far. I would love to hear how you've been spending yours.

August 2010 051

Hope to hear from you soon! Lots of love,

Catherine x

My summer has been ‘interesting’. First I was rushed into hospital with a very low blood count and had 16 hours blood transfusion. Then I had cameras in every place you can think of! The last one was very interesting as I had to swallow a camera in a pill tht took photos of my innards for 12 hours. Ain’t science wonderful?! After recuperating my lovely cat JoJo was taken ill with a burst abscess on his anal gland. After major surgery and 14 stitches which he didn’t remove!, he is now doing very well and is quite proud of himself. Not the usual Summer story but that’s life!Glad you had such an enjoyable break.

Hi catherine – I love reading your blogs – you always have great pics too!! I love menorca, although majorca is probably my favourite island.like you,I hate flying – so its not too far to go!!Also like you,I have teenagers, and it gets harder and harder every year,to find a resort that caters for all of us.We haven’t been away this year for various reasons – but have missed my sunshine break, more than I thought I would! With my teenagers off school and out and about doing their own thing,I’ve watched QVC more than ever this summer. My hubby works shifts and is away a lot so QVC is always company for me – thats really how I started watching 16 odd years ago, when my kids were small!! Great to see you back from your break!

HI Cathrine, your holiday looks beautiful, (did you choose santo tomas because your son is named Thomas?) as that is something i would do, I too have never been to menorca, but i have been to majorca, and ibiza,( the quieter parts) which i love, you dont look old enough to have such gorgeous young adults cathrine, our holidays are going so fast my children, ages 14, 7, 5, are having a great time, we have been doing lots of different things including legoland which is so exhausting but great fun, and tomorrow we are going to the isle of wight for the week, i have not been before, but everyone i know has said its so beautiful and there is so much for the children to do, i personally want to go to the liz earl shop as i am such a big liz earl fan, and as its my birthday on 24th maybe my darling husband will take me, and if im lucky maybe treat me to something, either way it doesnt matter, holidays are about having fun and enjoying time with each other especially with children,as you know they grow so quickly, and time and memories with them are so precious. lovely to see you back cathy and looking so gorgous, as you always do,(big hugs to you) from gina xx

    Hi Catherine,
Great times had by all! How lovely to see your holidays snaps and your 2 young adults are stunners!! Lovely you had some precious time together. It’s a blessing for you that they get on I’m sure – well I’m assuming they get on?! You look fab and well rested so hopefully you don’t lose that feeling too quickly! Have a fab weekend and look forward to the next update.
    Take care,
    Susan
PS Glad to see your flight was ok even with the ‘Remove before flight’ notice!!

Your holiday sounds lovely Catherine. Haven’t been to Menorca but its on my “places to go” list. I have been to Majorca and Ibiza many times and love both islands. I’ve seen those Bimbo baps in the supermarket in Majorca in fact I think we’ve bought them for a picnic!! We have to make the most of holidays with our children growing up so fast – when they are little sometimes it can be difficult keeping them entertained etc but boy when they leave home for college etc and its just the 2 of you going away it takes some adjusting to.
Good to see you back on screen – love todays TSV.

    Hi Cathrine
So glad you had a great holiday in Menorca, we had a very busy summer, lots of visitors from England, sweden and Norway, they just can”t get enough of the sun in Mallorca. It is been so hot here, but we all made the most of it, and now I feel like I do need a holiday to rest. I know what you mean about the hair raising ride in the Taxi, it is a Spanish thing, they all drive like mad here.
Also here we always seek out funny (lost in translation) staff, the last one we”ve seen, was 2 days ago we had friends from London and took them out to dinner in Palma town, and found a small hotel that offer a room for a family of 4, two adult and 2 chliders for a very good price saying a room with double bed and ponk beds, great price.haaa haa.
Great to see you back at QVC, I”ll be watching more of QVC now my visitors are back home.
    Much love.
    Magda.

Hi Catherine, love reading your blog with updates of your life. You are one of my favourite QVC presenters as you are so down to earth and friendly.
As usual me and my family visited Center parcs – which should be renamed ‘QVC parcs’ as everyone seemed to be wearing birkinstocks and carrying kipling bags!
We had a fantastic time with all the swimming, wildlife and sunshine(yes in this country)Its a perfect place for kids and the spa is always fantastic for some pampering.

Hello Catherine, glad you all had a great time on holiday together. Your teenagers have certainly inherited your good looks and i bet they have your lovely nature too. My own son is 18 and looking forward to starting university next month, so i know that along with the feelings of pride and happiness they bring us ,we are all too aware that they are heading into the world to start their adult lives and that leaves us parents with a whole bag of mixed emotions!I can tell you are a very proud mum like me ,and i wish all the youngsters embarking on the brave new world of college and uni all the luck and happiness in the world. Nice to have you back on QVC Catherine. xx

    Hi Rosie,
Thanks so much for your kind words regarding my blogs! I really appreciate it. I’d love to see Majorca, too. I’ve heard great things. I empathise about finding things to do which cater for everyone. My daughter would happily lay in the sun all the time whereas my son loves going for walks. That’s why the holiday we took was perfect as it was just a few days and had all we wanted.
I’m like you in that I also have QVC on a lot of the time for company. Nice to know I keep you company when need it, too!
    Thanks again and chat soon!
    Love Catherine x

    Hi Gina,
Great to hear from you. I like your thinking regarding Santo Tomas but no, it wasn’t down to Tom’s name but I did think it was cute!
I expect you’ll be enjoying the Isle of Wight as I type this. I really REALLY hope you get your treat to Liz Earle! You’ll have to let me know!
We used to go to Legoland, too. I agree, it’s fantastic! Brought back great memories for me when you mentioned it.
I wish you a very happy birthday for tomorrow. Mind you, when you read this it’ll probably be after the event..in which case I hope it was fab!
Lovely to hear from you & hope to again soon.
    Lots of love,

    Hi Susan,
Thanks for the kind words. We really did have such a great time. I always miss QVC if I’m away for longer than a week so I’m happy to say that I’m just as glad to be back as I was to go away.
My two do get on pretty well. We always have a great time when we go off together. We especially enjoy theatre trips and music together. I feel very blessed indeed!
I hope you are having a great summer, yourself.
    Much love,

    Hi Adrienne,
Great to hear from you. Your kind words mean a lot to me, too. Thank you.
Your Centre Parc break sounds lovely. I have never been but I would really like to sometime as I’ve only heard good things about it. From what I hear it’s especially good when you have very young children as it’s very child friendly. So glad it was sunny as that’s always the gamble with holidaying at home, isn’t it? I know only too well from years of going to the Glastonbury festival..I’ve had mostly soggy ones and missed this year’s which was stupendously sunny! Typical, eh?
Lots of love to you & yours,
    Catherine x

    Hi Alison,
How sweet of you to say such kind things, thank you so much!
Well done to your son for getting into Uni!! Exciting times but very strange too. My son is also off to Uni in September so I know what you’re feeling. We’ll have to prop each other up! It’s a roller coaster ride of emotions as you say..the other day I cried in the bath on my own for almost an hour because it dawned on me he really will be leaving home! Having said that I am immensely proud and those feelings are stronger than any silly moments I may have about missing him.
It’s so great to be back at QVC. Really good to hear from someone else going through the same exhilarating time, too! All the very best wishes to your son.
    Much love to you, too.

Your holiday pics look lovely. Isn’t it incredible how quickly they grow up? This is our first September with no ‘back to school!’ We’ve all moved on to uni now!! Scary! (And expensive!!!!)
Just wanted to empathise about the flying! But I did a Fear Of Flying course with Virgin several years back, and it really did work! The last time I had been on a plane before then was when I was pregnant with No1 Son – and I got off again before it took off!!! You see, I was bad! But now I’ll go anywhere – honestly, give me a ticket and I’ll go!!! It’s really opened up the world for me (and the family). I would recommend it to anyone (I was recommended it by someone who had the same problem and had done the course – he was SO cured, he went on to become a pilot!!!!

    Hi Deb,
Thanks for your message. Yes, the whole Uni thing is all very new and bittersweet! And expensive as you rightly say! Hope yours are getting on well. They make friends so quickly as they’re all in the same boat.
How funny you mentioned that course! I had bought the ‘app for that’ from Virgin for my iphone and found even that to be very helpful. I’m getting better every time I fly. Brilliant!
I’m so pleased it worked so well for you and absolutely amazing about the pilot!!! Wowee!
Sorry for taking so long to reply. Been soooo busy!
Much love to you & yours,
    Catherine x
