From Hollywood to Heathrow and Home!

View of LA with Hollywood Bowl in the foreground Well I'm home, and although I didn't exactly bring the sunshine back with me ( was pouring with rain when I landed at Heathrow on Monday), it's a bit brighter today! Fortunately I haven't really been suffering with jetlag but maybe that has something to do with the irregular hours I work anyway?

Last week was such a whirlwind that I'm starting to wonder if I dreamt it all – then I look at the blog and see all your lovely comments and I know it was for real! I can still hardly believe that I was on QVC's Red Carpet interviewing Oscar nominated actresses and celebrities and 2 days later I'm putting endless loads of washing through the machine – back to reality!!

Seabirds doing a King Canute As you will have seen from all the footage we shot, it was a busy old trip but I did get a day off on Saturday before the flight home on Sunday.

It was bright and sunny but very breezy however that didn't stop me going for a walk on the famous Santa Monica Pier followed by a walk along the beach. I love the picture of the seabirds lining up in front of the waves, just glad that they didn't turn and attack a la Hitchcock's 'The Birds'!!

Apparently they film Baywatch on Santa Monica beach but NOT in February, there were no scantily clad lifeguards to be seen! At the entrance to the pier there is a Bubba Gump shop and eatery full of all things Forrest Gump and opposite a small, but revamped solar-powered fun fair! I would imagine it's a very lively place to be when the weather is warmer!

The gorgeous beach where they filmed Baywatch I managed a little bit of retail therapy in the afternoon, just a few bits and bobs for the family and actually fell asleep in the back of the car on the way back to the hotel – I don't think I'd realised just how tired I was.

There was time the following morning for a quick sightseeing excursion into the Hollywood Hills to ogle the homes of the rich and famous and enjoy the panoramic views before heading to LAX for the flight home.

I've had a few comments about some of the outfits I've been wearing – a Kim & Co maxi, a couple of Ronni Nicoles and also the pink flowered dress which is a new Taylor design coming up next month on QVC.

I should probably also mention that, while I didn't have time to take any video footage, all the photos I sent back were taken on the Canon Power Shot SX210 IS digital camera I borrowed. You know I'm not great with technology but that camera was a breeze, and I loved the 14x optical zoom which allowed me to get such great close-ups. I even downloaded the pictures and then attached them to emails to send back to the UK all by myself… not sure I should shout about that too loudly or they'll have me doing more 'techy' shows! LOL

If I have to pick a highlight (apart from the Red Carpet), I think it has to be sitting in the bar of the Four Seasons Hotel drinking Cappucino and eating the most enormous club sandwich you've ever seen… can I just say I didn't eat it all! It suddenly dawned on me what a fantastic opportunity I had been given to experience the glitz and glam of Hollywood! It's good to be back though…

Much love, Julia x

    Hi Julia
Welcome back, Ihave been reading your red carpet blog every day, it looked like you have so much fun, and you sure deserve every bit of it, you work so hard at QVC. You also look so glam just as good as any Hollywood star. Loved you in the blue dress with the B&W necklace and earrings and what a limo!. I have been to the Santa Monica Pier in July about 18 years ago, it was very lively.
Reading your red carpet blog was a God send for me, as it kept me busy and took my mind off the fact that the doctors found a lump in my breast, I had the biopsy last week and now waiting for the result on march 10th, Iam keeping everything crossed, I”ll keep you inform. Look forward to see you back on QVC.
    Much love.

Welcome back Julia and yes you are a very lucky lady to have had that opportunity. LA looks amazing I am very envious. Although I’ve only been as far as Europe I absolutely adore travelling and my dream is for my hubby and me in the not too distant future to go off in a Camper Van and we will one day. I also often say I would love to go off on a Gap Year which amuses my husband as I’m not exactly a spring chicken!! I told him I just left school on a Friday started work on a Monday and that was it – to travel never entered my head. Now I want to make up for it!!
Look forward to seeing you back on screen soon

I loved your red carpet outfit – the dress was a gorgeous colour and went so well with your accessories. I loved the Charlie Lapson clutch too! Hope you enjoyed every moment. Nice to have you back and I’ll look forward to seeing you in my living room later tonight with Keeley (I secured my TSV just after midnight last night and can’t wait for it to arrive!)

Was nice to see you back last night, with Keeley! THAT was some first show back for you!! She was so funny. Did you see her when she was on earlier in the day, when she spilled water everywhere? Was very funny, especially when she blamed poor Emma and her post baby “issues” So, so funny.
Emma was looking fantastic, cant believe shes a mummy!
The TSV was AMAZING, and i cant wait for mine to arrive. i just LOVE the purple case.

Hi Julia, so good to see you back on QVC last night with Keeley – fab show!! I read all your blogs from the red carpet trip and you looked terrific and are a really good ambassador for QVC and us ladies of a certain age – brilliant. Loved the B&W jewellery – he is such a genius designer and creator.
Also to let you know, as you asked me to at the end of the Thursday afternoon Beauty Bash in January, my daughter in law has just had the baby and I now have a grandson, Micah James. Sorry he did not fulfil your prediction of being a girl, but he is gorgeous and well so I am sure that you won’t mind not predicting correctly!!! So good to have you back as you were really missed. Also very much missed on the QVC shows is Alison K so please pass on love and special thoughts and prayers to her and we all look forward to her recovery and return to QVC. Love Sue x

    Hi Julia,
Didn’t see the Elemis TSV I’m afraid but Keeley spilling the water sounds great! I loved the 3 red carpet shows the girls did at the weekend and just wanted to say how much I loved their dresses as I know they don’t blog an awful lot. Could you pass on when you see them? They looked stunning! Enjoy your first weekend at home.

I would have loved to have visited Malibu but just not enough time. Perhaps I will be able to take a holiday there in the future – Charlie has offered to be my tour guide!!!

My Red Carpet dress was an ‘off the peg’ number from Debenhams. They had it in black too but I am so glad I went for the blue – there was quite a lot of blue on QVC’s Red Carpet and so much glamour it took my breath away!

Yep, Keeley was in fine form.
We are doing ok. Ive really been dreading March. We have a few “firsts” this month. Birthdays etc, and thats been quite hard, but we are getting there. Also, the lovely boy who was killed at Christmas was due to be married this month, so that might be a bury my head in the sand day. One day at a time, one foot in front of the other etc.
Its been decided that the 2 families will have a get together, and have a little remembrance party for him, which i think is easier than everyone not being sure whether to mention the day or ignore it completely. Safety in numbers too I suppose.
Hope you enjoy your time off Julia.

I think the blue dress was lovely in its own right, but the addition of the B & W jewellery really helped create the Red Carpet look – a lot of the celebrities I interviewed remarked about it, even Joan Rivers despite the fact that it wasn’t ‘one of hers’!

Thankfully the snow didnt stay around for too long. I do remember it snowed the day I brought my daughter home from hospital. That was 7th May. I looked out the window that morning and promptly burst into tears. I thought they wouldnt let me take her home because it was snowing and cold outside!! The midwife was in absolute fits of laughter. She asked if I thought they kept all the winter babies in until springtime!!!!
