From next-to-nothing knowledge and a slapdash non-existent regime that resulted in poor skin, to a list of can't-live-withouts and a radiant complexion in 18 months…
Good skincare works! I was sceptical, mainly due to a lack of understanding and skin-specific education. I know it works because I am living proof. When I joined QVC 18 months ago I honestly didn't fully understand the need to invest in skincare. I had fairly bad skin, prone to breakouts, dry patches at times and always super-reactive to topical creams. I was doing it all wrong, getting by on any old or high street-advertised brands with expensive celebrity marketing campaigns – I had no real routine and I definitely wasn't using anything targeted to my skin type.
But it only took a couple of beauty shows at QVC – meeting with the industry experts, listening to their advice and using recommended products – to treat my multiple issues.
My skin needed rebalancing and hydrating, and I was also in need of regular exfoliation (which I never did!). I'd been stripping my skin with alcohol heavy ingredients, drying it out to clear up the breakouts, then overloading it with poor quality anti-ageing products.
It's not just the products on QVC that saved my skin, it's the excellent advice and education you get from the real experts who represent the brands, and of course our own beauty expert Alison Young. They tell us which skin type each product is for, how to use it and the results we can expect, and there's even usually an actual therapist on each show who offers application tips too. If I'm ever unsure or need extra reassurance, I visit qvcuk.com and read the reviews from real customers who give their honest opinions and give it a rating out of five.
Below is a list of skincare which I have found has made a big difference to me. Now I play around with new products too and alternate my regime every few months on the advice of the experts. I haven't listed everything, but these are my real heros that I keep going back to:
My morning regime starts with Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish or Elemis Cleansing Balm - the foundation of good skin starts with a good cleanser, and this was the first step in my regime I addressed once I started at QVC.
Sarah Chapman Intense Hydrating Booster is great; it does exactly as it says and can be integrated into any regime after a serum, going on the skin like liquid silk and absorbing immediately – top tip, use this throughout the summer months to boost thirsty parched skin. For moisturiser I love Elemis Pro Collagen Marine cream but I do also like Murad Hydro Dynamic Ultimate moisturiser.
During the night the skin works it's hardest, so chose night treatments wisely - Sarah Chapman Overnight facial is super soothing yet intense, then I also use Alpha H liquid gold twice a week. If you can, twice a year for one month each time, try Bio Effect serum, it replaces all your night time creams, I find this really brightens my skin particularly under my eyes but it's not needed for continuous year-round use.
Gatineau Gommage is a gentle exfoliant which I do a couple of times a week (but on different days to Alpha H liquid Gold) followed by a mask; Radical have a great effervescent one that's easy to use which fizzes and pops when it's ready to take off, and Gatineau also do some great specific masks.
I always use a primer – with or without make up – it gives an even finish to the skin and fills in any lines; most usually matify the skin too. Try Benefit Porefessional or the fabulous award winning Elemis Flash Balm.
Whatever your regime… don't cut corners, be sceptical – but don't underestimate the power of good skincare, I'm a changed woman and finally I love the skin I'm in!
