Footprints in the sand

Footsteps in the sand

QVC presenter, Julia RobertsIt is good to be be back although I must confess I am missing the beautiful 9km sandy beach of Porto Santo that I had several walks along on my holiday last week.

We hadn’t been planning another holiday this year but as you know if you read my blog regularly it was Chris’s 60th birthday at the end of August. As it was a BIG birthday I wanted to get him something memorable for a present and he said he would like a holiday … fortunately he decided to take me as his ‘plus one’!

Pebble names on the beach

In case you haven’t heard of Porto Santo it is a small island close to Madeira, just over a three-hour flight from the UK. I first came across it in a holiday brochure several years ago but at the time they didn’t offer direct flights from the UK so it wasn’t really viable with two young children in tow. I hadn’t really given it much thought until I did an Ultrasun show in September with Abi Cleeve who had just come back from her holiday in, you guessed it, Porto Santo. Three days later I had booked it on her recommendation and I must say we were not disappointed.

Sunbathing on the beach

We had mostly good weather, apart from one day of torrential rain, so I was able to get in plenty of swimming, walking and sunbathing (sshhh, don’t tell Ali Young). Actually, I knew I would be seeing her yesterday so I made sure I had Decleor body scrubbed and moisturised, Liz Earle face scrubbed and Decleor moisture masked, and Philip Kingsley Elasticized my hair … I am actually quite scared of Ali!!! I think I got away with it.

Normally when I am away I like to write but this time I just had a complete break, which meant I had to work on the synopsis to my new book when I got home so that I can send it out to agents next week. Only two people have read the book cover to cover and one was not a family member … both enjoyed it so I hope you will too when it eventually goes into print.

I needed a break before the Christmas rush began at QVC. We launched our festive season on Wednesday, a little early for some people I know, but there are only ten weekends until Christmas so maybe time to start thinking about ideas and hopefully we will be able to provide you with a few whilst entertaining you on the Saturday Night Show, which starts its run tomorrow night at 8pm.

The Saturday Night Show

This year Miceal and I are your hosts. We are doing three shows together (the first, the last and one in the middle somewhere) and alternating for the others. There will be some great products, lots of fun and a competition which you may have read about on Will’s blog. This week’s show will include the Philosophy TSV if it hasn’t already sold out.

Philosophy TSV collection

I hope you like the promo we have been running for the show and if you haven’t seen it check it out below … it’s quite amusing, particularly as I am going to miss Palace v Chelsea tomorrow!

By the way, the dress I was wearing is a Ronni Nicole. I’m on with Ouida again this afternoon at 3pm and the dress may well feature as we currently have available stock.

So, a busy weekend ahead, the first in our Christmas season and, to put you in the festive spirit I thought I would share this jibjab that Lee Hobein did with you. I knew Craig and Debs could move a bit but very impressed with Charlie’s hip action (wink wink!)

Have a fab weekend

much love

Julia xx

    Hi Julia
Lovely to see you back again, feels like I’ve not seen you in ages…as I came back off holiday, you went on one! Looks an absolute idyllic place to be with hardly another person in sight. I am getting worried about you though, Julia, beginning to think you have a bit of a foot fetish with your photos…only joking lol!

Lots to catch up on, firstly, sorry to hear about poor Poppy’s illness, hope she is feeling much better and back to her old self again, after your love and care. Glad that you had a family get together at your brother’s wedding, photos look lovely.
Also loved the montage of you over the years on the video…still as stunning now as you were back then!

Bobby was ever so good on his journey to and from France, although a bit confused on Le Shuttle. The journey there was horrendous as what was already a very long time in the car turned into an even longer one, 14 hours, because the train was 3 hours late. We arrived at 10pm having already been up since 4.30am. We stayed just outside Lassay les Chateaux in Mayenne. Luckily the cottage owners lived in the attached cottage and were there to meet us and explain everything and there was a most enjoyable welcome pack of bread, milk, cheese, eggs, wine, plus tea and coffee, for a much needed brew!
The weather was gorgeous and not being a sun worshiper I had Ultrasun’s SPF50 Sports Spray, which was also my moisturiser. I am very much like Ali Y and tend to keep out of the sun because I normally burn and suffer with prickly heat, but not a rash in sight, very impressed!

Looking forward to seeing you later and Good Luck to you and Miceal on the Saturday Night Show tomorrow.

      Hi Annette
Wow that was a long one! I was only off QVC for ten days but as you say it tagged on the end of your holiday to France … hope you had a god time despite the very delayed arrival! Believe it or not I also use Ultrasun factor 50 on my face but I used 20 on my body his time as I already had a an and it was only in the mid 20’s.
Sounds like Bobby was very good. Poppy is much better than she was but still a bit up and down with her food – not on any medication now though.
It was lovely seeing some of my family at my brother’s wedding particularly the Scottish contingent. Not everyone could go cos of work commitments including Daniel.
Hope you enjoyed the Saturday Night Show? We are both doing it again this week.
      Speak soon

You have done well finishing your book.
Looking forward to your Saturday night show. I did see the funny video on Debbie’s blog which was really good, really made me laugh, very clever that.
So pleased Poppy is a bit better and hope she continues to improve. How is Wilfie?

      Hi Jean
We did a lot of walking on holiday but no those footprints weren’t all ours!
Hope you enjoyed the Saturday Night Show – Miceal and I are both doing it again this week.
Poppy is doing well but still a bit picky with her food.
Haven’t seen Wilfie in a few weeks but Dan says he is fine.

    Hi Julia,
Nice to see you back from your well earned break. It looked lovely and relaxing. We all need time out to just do nothing and just chill!
We still have’nt had any viewers for our house. I know its still early days.I suppose this time of year now is not the best time of year to be house hunting, although we moved to our present house in the November. We had a terrible Christmas as we had boxes everywhere for weeks and could’nt even have a Christmas tree up as it was packed away with all the mayhem!
I bought the Veroniese Diamonique Studs with the Christmas tree box that you were showing in your Diamonique hour earlier today. I needed cheering up.
Well I’m off to look at the properties on the property search.
    All the best, Tina (S.Wales)

      Hi Tina
Sorry to hear you haven’t had any viewings on the house yet – I mentioned you on air again on Sunday during the Yankee Candle show! We moved just after Christmas last year and although we had a few packed boxes lying around I did most of the packing up between New Year and January 10th – it was a bit of a rush!
So pleased you got the Diamonique earrings, an affordable little treat. My director on that show ordered three pairs as gifts and she got hers yesterday.

Hi Julia, Was interested to hear you went to Porto Santo for a 60th birthday celebration, as its a place that doesn’t get too much publicity. I have had many holidays on Madeira, and celebrated my 60th birthday on Madeira last year. Madeira is my favourite holiday destination, and have often wondered about popping over to Porto Santo on the ferry and think I must definitely try this next year. Did you get across to Madeira?
Good luck with the Saturday night shows.
    Regards Julie

      Hi Julie
No we didn’t manage to get across to Madeira – we were only away for a week! I think the main attraction in Porto Santo is the 9km beach … To be honest there isn’t a lot else to see. I think it would be worth a ferry trip next time you are in Madeira.
Hope you enjoyed the Saturday Night Show and will be watching tomorrow?

      Hi Carole
I’m so glad you got some things you really wanted last week on QVC … I didn’t even see the Butler & Wilson bag charm as I was away – shame really as my mum would have liked one!
I wonder if the Philosophy TSV was a gift for someone or whether you are keeping it.
