Football and fun for Greenfingers

How are we all?

May is such a lovely month, my favourite month in fact. We see the first signs that summer is on the way and it’s also usually the month we can well and truly put away our winter coats finally.

All the festivals start in May too and lots of us start to contemplate our summer holidays (if we didn’t book them well in advanced that is). Ultimately, May has lots of opportunities for us to go out in the garden and be grateful for all we have.

I’m actually enjoying writing this blog outside right now, something I couldn’t have done last month.

So, what have I been up to….?

Richard Jackson and Lorna KoWell, Richard Jackson supports this wonderful national charity called Greenfingers which is dedicated to supporting children, along with their families, who use hospices around the UK. It creates inspiring gardens for them to relax in and enjoy. The charity is dedicated to creating beautiful, well-designed outdoor spaces for children to enjoy with their family and friends, whether through play and fun, or therapeutic rest and relaxation.

To date, Greenfingers has created 49 inspiring outdoor areas in hospices around the country, and has a further waiting list of hospices that need our help. The charity is driven by the belief that time spent outdoors, away from the bedside, can offer children and families under considerable stress a vital opportunity to embrace the benefits of being in the fresh air and engaging with the natural environment.

They are committed to creating specially designed, stimulating gardens that can bring many benefits to children with life-limiting conditions.Whilst many people may take for granted the simple pleasure of being able to enjoy a garden, for these families, the chance to spend time together outdoors and away from the bedside is precious.

Lots of the team at QVC really wanted to help support this important cause, so we organised a charity football event at the local 5-a-side pitches. It was super fun, a great laugh and even the local TV station came to film us. Catherine Huntley also got involved, as did some of our other vendors such as Green Seasons who provided us with tasty burgers for the post match BBQ. It was a fabulous event and we raised plenty for charity. A huge thank you to all of those who got involved it was very worthwhile.

I think this serves as a reminder to all of us at just how lucky we are if we have outdoor space, it is so therapeutic. Here at QVC UK we have lots to help make your home environment a place you love to spend time in. Check out some of the outdoor offerings in our Garden & Leisure department of the website so you can make the most of this long awaited time of year.

What do you love about this time of year?
