Flowers x 3 and Chocolate Cake x 2!

Julia Roberts on her birthday Thanks very much for all the birthday good wishes… you're very kind. I hadn't intended to say anything on air about it, after all I'm just another year older, but somehow Lulu heard about it and presented me with a beautiful bouquet of fragrant pink peonies live on air!

As if that wasn't enough of a suprise, another huge bouquet, this time of fragrant roses, arrived from Leighton Denny and was handed to me on air by Ali Young, who also bought me a very decadent chocolate cake. I'm wondering who the mole was and think it could well have been Ms Young herself… something to do with the twinkle in her eye!

My day was quite hectic really. I was up late as I'd been on the TSV launch with Lulu – breakfast, followed by card and pressie opening, flower arranging and birthday cake icing, before getting showered and going back into work! Just had time for a quick pose with the cake before I left (photo top left!). I had some very thoughtful gifts, including 2 tickets to the ballet from Daniel and Sophie… I haven't been for years, so roll on December!

After work we went out for an Italian meal (my favourite cuisine) and then watched the episode of The Apprentice that I had missed earlier in the week. Are you watching it? That was the one where Edna went, probably the right decision, but this week I was gobsmacked that Jim survived the dreaded finger pointing!

We were rolling around laughing over some of the suggested magazine names for the over 60s mag. I think 'Coffin Dodgers' was the funniest – who would ever read a publication called that?? Chris liked 'Zimmer' but as it is the German word for 'room', I'm not sure people would have grasped that it wasn't a foreign language mag!

I wonder who your favourite is?? Quite a few of them are really annoying this year, but I guess that is what makes it such good TV. I like Helen – she just quietly gets on with things and lets the others do things they will later regret! I wish I could be more like Helen LOL!!!

Really pretty Casual and Co TSV dress today – I'm hoping there will be some left for Fashion at Five so that I can wear it!

Hope the weather picks up for the weekend,
love Julia xx

    Hi Julia,
Glad you enjoyed your birthday as I said on last blog. I love Italiano too! Interesting choice of position for your photo lol – but realise the flowers were down there! I would imagine Ali would have said about your birthday too – though you did say on your blog you’d be spending it with Lulu!! I love ballet – as having done when younger – and do enjoy going when the funds allow..which is not right now lol! Oh please pick up UK climate…it is not fun at all. Well, just seeing the dress sold out but I did see Debs and Debs in it earlier and both looked very pretty. Sure people will love it.
    Enjoy your weekend.

    Hi Julia,
Just had to say I love the new Gabby Skye range – what i caught of it! I thought Jill looked amazing in her choice of dress and perfect presenter too, or Ali K if she was there. Elegant, classy, demure. Lovely dresses and very me. Talking of dresses…did like the red one Genevieve ‘made’ you wear! Come on…you’re not kidding anyone…we know you love to show your chest area shall we say lol?! Not usually a Casual & Co girl but that was quite pretty. This new range is very me though. Will enjoy watching (not buying until the funds allow as I said above!). Will be purchasing though in the future no doubt!
    Enjoy your weekend.

    Hi Julia
Love the cake, you’ve made a really good job of it, especially the numbers in your favourite colours. Chris had the last piece of mine on Thursday, rather him than me, I’ve put enough weight on!
The ballet is something to look forward to in December on those cold dreary nights, it will lift the spirits no end. What thoughtful children you have there. I’ve never been myself, but would love to go one day, for the experience.
Knowing your love of purple, have you seen Diane Gilman’s cropped skinny jeans in deep purple. I’ve just ordered a pair, they remind me of the purple pair I had years ago and it makes a change from buying the usual denim colours.

    Hi Julia
I`m writing to you to ask you to use your powers as senior QVC presenter . We have just heard the sad news that Amica has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Our dear Ali Keenan is also battling this dreadful disease, and sadly many of us have friends and relatives also affected.
We know that QVC supports Breast Cancer Care with it`s special event in October –anyone who has tried to buy on the night will know it is often impossible to get through to order , especially for the most popular items.
I would like to suggest that QVC commission a special pin /brooch/ or pendant, possibly Pink Diamonique or similar which could be sold throughout the month , not just that night enabling everyone to buy and support the cause . Please help and take this idea to the right ears –you will know where that would be.
    Thank you
    Angela

    Hi Kathy
I think you have definitely had your birthday present!! What a disappointing June weatherwise – maybe it will pick up for Wimbledon fortnight, though not looking too likely at the moment!
The dress is an old fave from River Island – I have worn it a couple of times on air, that’s maybe where you have seen it before??

    Hello Susan
If it makes you feel any better the weather has been pretty awful for us in the south-east this weekend. We had very heavy rain and thunder and lightening on Saturday – then it brightened up later in the day. Very changeable at the moment.
Yes sadly I didn’t have the opportunity to wear the TSV dress but I really liked the one I was wearing at 8p.m. / 9p.m. albeit a bit on the ‘low cut’ side!

    Julie,
It sounds as if you had a lovely birthday, all those flowers which must have made you feel special. And the chocolate cake, also your tickets to the ballet, it is good to be spoilt isnt it. You mention the apprentice, yes I have been watching it, and when you are in business yourself and then watch them, you wonder how on earth they ever managed to get into business themselves, they really have no idea of things, in fact some of them make themselves look and sound quite useless. I agree with the name for the magazine, it was quite insulting at times. They certainly love themselves. Anyway glad you enjoyed your birthday and yes lets hope the weather brightens up soon.

Hi Julia, my mouth is watering looking at that lovely chocolate cake – my favourite mmmm! – I’m a bit of a chocoholic & a QVC-a-holic too – every time I switch on I see something I like & usually succumb to purchasing!! (think I’ll have to hide my remote!!lol!) The Apprentice is my fav programme at the moment. I like Helen too, not only for the obvious reason (her name!!) but also for her demure demeanour! A strong contender don’t you think? A friend was telling me a while back about how lovely it was to go to the ballet – I had to, sadly, admit I’ve never been! They said I would thoroughly enjoy it – maybe someday – poss even for my birthday in October – tho I’ll not hold my breath!lol! I can just imagine it would be a lovely and memorable experience! Take care.

Oh Julia. Hello! I am back to the real world!!??? OMG do I ever have a lot to catch up with but here I go! It will get done!!
First of all Happy Birthday all be it late. Saw Ali on the TV come in on you with cake message and flowers! So sweet. I luved that soo much. Had a lump in my throat. Also when Ali talked about Amica I was sooo upset to think that was going on with her. All this upset over lovely gals on this blog and our Ali Keenan is sometimes too much to bear. My blessing to all of them and my prayers.
When you have two minutes, Amen! will you share with me where you got your lovely tunic dress/top you have on in your photo holding that yummy cake? It is sooo right up my street and looks lovely with your tan!
Now I have been shopping a lot on QVC UK since I have been back this past week. Finally, Annette and Julia I got the Rockport high leather boots a bit like our old Markon ones! They fit my 15 inch calf and are on sale at the moment!! I got black!! Also Annette I too got the Diane Gilman cropped jeans, not on me cropped, in all the colors! Could use a 6 but will see how these work. Her stuff is very stretchy!! Gil, the dolphins in the Gulf were very, very close to us while swimming! So wonderful, they always seem to be close in the water on Naples beaches!
Julia , I have a birthday the 1st week in July and while i was away I got the new Ipad 2 for my pressie! I was in the right place at the right time!!! I am sooo still learning but the Apple store in Naples had great classes. It is a nice addition to this big old Dell desktop and easy to take with me. I have no idea how to do pics yet!! Sent to all of you with loads of luv and blessing at this time when it is sooo needed. Kittens and calves are coming every day! GinnyXXX

Well done you setting up your new laptop so quickly. We bought Chris ( my other half ) an Acer for Christmas and he loves it!
The tickets are for The Nutcracker, as I said in my previous reply the perfect Christmas ballet, but I am also a huge fan of Swan Lake, Coppelia, Giselle, The Rake’s Progress etc. etc. I haven’t been to the ballet for such a long time and I think the film ‘The Black Swan’ has revived my interest ….. the story was very dark but the dancing was wonderful!

    Hi Annette
Did you get your purple jeans yet?? – lovely shade of purple weren’t they? I thought Diane Gilman was on great form.
Confession – Daniel put the Smarties on the cake after I had iced it ( ran out of time ) hence the 55 in Palace colours!
I have been a bit ‘naughty’ with food over the last couple of weeks – I had a friend over to dinner last weekend and I made Eton Mess for the first time ……. yum yum yum!!! I followed a recipe ( loosely ) off the internet which involved soaking the strawberries in Port – nice!!
So need to be a bit careful for the next couple of weeks and add a couple of extra gym sessions

    Hello Angela
I have just come off the phone from ‘speaking to the right person’ so it is now upto them to try and get something organised. I think it is a fabulous idea and I believe something we have done in the past, so I am hopeful that it can be done again, even if the specially commissioned piece were sold on advanced orders.
It is always a shock when someone you know is diagnosed and we must remember that though a lot of people recover these days due to the advances in treatment, there are still families who are devastated when they lose someone dear. BCC is so important to those families and I am so pleased QVC support them.
I went to see Ali on Monday – it was good to catch up, and despite everything she still has her sense of humour.

How fabulous was your namesake on the Apprentice last night?? When they were pitching to La Redoute and she turned around the whole comment that the backpack / childseat was too expensive – she was just brilliant!
Both chocolate cakes were far too tasty – need to cut down for a couple of weeks!
You really should go to the ballet at least once in your life, and it’s not as pricey as a lot of people think. The Nutcracker is a lovely ballet to start with – colourful, great music and an easy to follow story. Start dropping hints for your birthday LOL!

    Hi Ginny
Did you tell me you were going away??? I hope you had a fab time, certainly sounds like it. Are you from Naples originally? We went on a family holiday to Captiva a few years back ( combined it with Orlando so we all got a bit of ‘what we wanted’ ) – it was recommended by Jennifer Kirk of Kirk’s Folly. Great recommendation, we would definitely go back!
Lucky girl getting the iPad 2 as an early birthday present – Happy Birthday when it comes around as I might forget nearer the time …… memory dulls with age!! Funny enough I actually get on better with my little Samsung NC10 than I do with my Dell – I think I prefer the operating system, not very keen on Vista really, too complicated for me!
Ali Young is a sweetheart – she is a friend as well as a work colleague and I was very touched by her thoughtfulness – I have known her now for over 17 years, seems incredible to me that I have spent such a large chunk of my life at QVC.
The dress in the picture was from River Island but I have had it a couple of years – would have looked good with the Diane Gilman crops in purple – so I doubt you can still get it.
back to your animals …. we have baby Alpacas in the field next door now, they look sooooo cute!

    Hi Julia,
I really wouldn’t worry too much about your being so careful about what you eat you know!! You always say you need to be careful after just having a piece or 2 of cake! Give yourself a break! I see the weather hasn’t been great – some comfort for the rest of us I hate to say! We will not be pleased if you get 28C and we get 15C at the weekend though!!! Let’s face it – it will happen! I did notive you loved wearing that red dress by the way…you do LOVE your low cut dresses!
I said to Debs G about passing on our thoughts to lovely Amica and family too so thanks to you both. Awful.
I also have to say I’m not into The Apprentice this year – it’s getting tiring for me I think. I quite often don’t like Alan’s attitude either just since the last couple of years. Melody is awful – but i disagree that Tom and Leon should have kept her in check – how could you keep that girl in check?! You said you’d want to go on the show…could you walk over your own mother?! I could not! And I know you can sell the hind leg off a donkey but I’d rather not be in that world I must say!!
    Take care,

Many thanks for your speedy response , and for taking the idea to the powers that be. I`m sure that Qvc`s customers will back whatever is produced and buy it to support breast cancer research. It could strike any one of us after all.
Great shows with Simon yesterday , my grand daughter -age 5 -made me laugh. She is a massive fan of the jewellery and has most of the smaller necklaces and bracelets . Her favourite is the frog holding the umbrella , though yesterday she fell in love with the little bunny girl necklet.
She has the idea that Simon and you make all these pieces yourselves. Anyway she turned on for the 6pm show yesterday and it was Jill — well that was not right — she was very puzzled and said ” who IS that with Simon and where`s Julia? ”
    thanks again —

I’m disappointed to miss out on Danns. We have missed out on 2 or 3 players and brought in no one yet. I best not complain though because with our new owner we shouldnt have to sell before we buy. I just wish he would put his money in his pocket though. Was hoping Danns would have fancied a crack at the Champions League but not to be.

Yes I like Dougie Freedman too Julia. I think he has Rangers leanings too! He was at Palace for a number of years as a player wasnt he…
Our season starts on the 23rd of July believe it or not! Its an earlier start becuase of all the bad weather we had up here during the last season which resulted in games getting squashed in. So its to try and prevent that this year and to give our teams that play in the early rounds of European competition a better chance of progressing.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply to me and I look forward to your next reply. I’m on strike today as I am in the PCS union. I think there are lots of strikes throughtout Britain today. All to do with pensions. I think I’ll take my Dad out for lunch. Maybe even buy him a pint!
