Flower Power and summer holidays

Jilly Halliday on the swings with her children Hi there, I just had to share the success of my hanging baskets with you – and it's all down to Richard Jackson's Flower Power!

I wish I had taken some photos before because the trailing petunias I used were tiny, and it didn't help that I shut one of them in the boot of the car and was half headless by the time I got home!

My husband (who has become gardening mad since we moved house, and is even now mowing stripes into the lawn) has been using flower power religiously over the last few weeks – and the results are nothing short of spectacular!

Jilly Halliday's petunias You probably can't tell just how huge the bloom is on the baskets, but the hanging basket is cone shaped and has been completely covered with flowers.

We have a great gardening relationship; I'm garden design, my husband is garden maintenance, and Richard Jackson adds the magic! With a bit of luck we'll get some great weather now the schools have broken up.

My son left primary school, which was all very emotional. He had to give a speech at his leaving assembly and he ended with the saying "It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice," which is something we say a lot in our family and it made me so proud. He is growing up so fast, and hopefully into a lovely young man, fingers crossed!

We kicked off our summer with a trip to Alton Towers. The rides there are amazing, real thrill-seeking stuff. I loved 'Rita' which was so fast, and Nemesis – OMG! We then all went on 13, even Cassidy who is only seven! Obviously I can't give away the secret of 13 because nobody ever does, but it really is a rollercoaster the likes of which I've never been on before. Arghhhhhhhhhh!

Anyway, have a great summer. Let's have any ideas of days out to keep the little ones occupied, and with a bit of luck we'll get some sunshine!

Take care,

Jilly xxx

    Hi Jilly,
What gorgeous flowers! And a great relationship! Your kiddies are beautiful children and what a fine young man in the making Taylor is. Perfect words and I would have expected just that with a wonderful Mummy like you.
    Take care

Hello Jilly, What a lovely blog and OUTSTANDING petunias. I’m having a sleepless night, thanks to toothache, and thought I’d “catch up” with the presenters. Taylor sounds a super boy and a real credit to you. How quickly the years go, I can remember you expecting him and being slightly fragile one morning… I can also go back to the Septembers when our two went to high school, I dreaded the transition from the safe haven of their little school to that huge world and older students. They were both absolutely fine; kept old friends and made new ones and brought home increasingly complicated homework. I love your saying, our younger daughter is starting her NQT year in a primary school next week and that is her mantra! Love, Jo x
