Five essential tips for the cosiest winter ever

0

After the spooky fun of Halloween has passed and the sticky-sweet smell of Bonfire toffee has finally faded, winter comes forward in a burst of roaring fires, roasted chestnuts and of course, Christmas festivity. Whether you celebrate the day or not, there’s no denying that a special kind of magic fills the air in the winter months and there’s only one way to describe how we feel: cosy!

Here at QVC, we love finding ways to make the most of each season, so grab yourself a peppermint hot chocolate, turn up the Bing Crosby and get ready to find out how to make this winter your cosiest yet.

1. Be a festive foodie

Wind howling a gale? Rain lashing down in buckets? Snow (dare we say it) on the horizon? There’s no way a modest salad will do in these kinds of weather! The only option is to fill up on warming dinners and decadent treats. Try a delicious meat pie from The Real Pie Company, with plenty of buttery mashed potato, roasted veggies and gravy and follow it up with a decadently squidgy chocolate brownie from Gower Cottage. Try adding a light vanilla custard or a boozy cream for an even more luxurious finish to your meal.

If you’re more of a savoury character, there’s no better way to round out an evening of fine dining than with a cheese board full of classics, like this excellent selection from Paxton and Whitfield.

2. Deck the halls

From all-out glittery fairy lights to chic, understated decorative pieces, creating a cosy winter ambience is all in the details. Try draping a golden garland over the mantelpiece or dotting surfaces with shimmering lanterns to set the festive mood on cold winter evenings.

3. Snuggle up

If nothing else, winter gives us an excuse to wrap up in layers of soft clothing and keep as snug as possible! Add a little bit of fun to the proceedings with this pug Christmas jumper or go for something a little more luxe like this In Cashmere cowl neck number.

4. Wrap presents by the fire

Gift-giving is always exciting and choosing the perfect present for a loved one doesn’t have to be stressful. Take a look through our gift guides for different members of the family and pick fabulous presents that are guaranteed to impress. Now for the cosy part! Whip up your favourite hot drink (we love Whittard’s flavoured hot chocolate selection), put on your snuggliest socks and sit by the fire while you wrap up your festive treats. We have a gorgeous selection of gift wrap, bags and even stockings to add the ‘wow’ factor to Christmas morning!

5. Be a game-changer

It doesn’t take much for the little ones to grow weary of playing indoors when the weather’s bad. Make staying in a joy with games that can played alone or with the whole family, all from the comfort of your sofa! Combine the kids’ love of tech with good old-fashioned fun and try these Mardles Playtime Stickers that come to life with the help of a smartphone or tablet. Magic!

It’s all well and good feeling cosy on the outside, but there’s nothing that gives us a warm feeling quite like spending quality time with family and friends over the festive season. So whether you’ve made plans to see people you haven’t seen all year, or you’re organising delicious dinners and inviting everyone round, we hope you have a wonderful time of the year!
