My First Grandbaby has arrived!

16

Well it’s finally happened and grandbaby is here. I added a little tag onto last week’s blog because she was born about an hour after the blog went live last Friday! She is Blake Katherine Carter, my son Brad and his lovely wife Kari’s first baby.

Little Blake arrived after a troublesome labour and despite all efforts, forceps, epidural poor Kari has a little lower back problem which meant Blake had to appear out of the ‘sunroof’! She was 7lb 5oz, quite a good average weight given she was eventually ten days late! But after a few days in hospital with a temperature followed by jaundice, baby and tired mummy were well enough and they all went home and settled in.

Brad and Kari are doing an extension to their hypnobirthing thing, which means a period of bonding with baby alone after the birth, so I’m due to see her this weekend. Can’t wait! As I mentioned, Blake will not be a Social Media baby, only occasionally will I post updates there. So do sign up for newsletters to my blogs on here, and I will also be posting about her, when I do, on my website blog and newsletters too. At the weekend I will post pics of my first meeting with her, but she does look adorable! I’ve had so many messages from people on my Facebook page and on Twitter saying how being a grandparent is the best thing! Do you agree? If so post below and let me know! But suffice to say, a whole new era is ahead and I’m very chuffed to be able to report all is well with the very first grandbaby!

SNIPPETS
Moving – again…

Meanwhile back at my second ‘home’ in Surrey, brother Glenn and family – where I stay when I’m at QVC – are in the process of packing up their Banstead house to move to Sanderstead, closer to the girls’ school. This pic was funny – Morph the cat gets on top of all the boxes, and the other day he pushed open one that was folded together and settled down for a snooze! It was hilarious watching him getting himself out again, he kind of put his arm over the side of the top of the box and clumsily heaved himself up – his moves were more like a dog than a cat! Anyway at least they’ll know where to look for him when he’s missing!

Debbie aged three!
Whilst digging out old pics of my son Brad, to compare with baby, my sis sent me this one, of me and her in around 1965. I was only three and a half and I already had a two year old sister and a three month old baby brother! Check out the wallpaper! Lol. See what we are on? Remember those old rocking horses with the springs? Did you have one? Or what was your top toy when a youngster – they don’t make ‘em like they used to!

Facebook funny
@Simon_Pegg on Twitter: “I was keen to see the new BBC4 documentary series, where Bonnie Tyler presents a history of French Philosophy. Slightly disappointed that it was just totally clips of Descartes.” !!!
Hehehahaaaa!

Watch
The Post with Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks! OMGeeee what an amazing film! So glad it’s Oscar season – there are so many amazing films around! This one covers the time in the early 70s when a newspaper had to choose whether to unveil a nasty government secret or not and risk it’s very existence – truly an existential problem! It’s in the same vein as ‘All the President’s Men’ which I loved – one of my top films ever. I dread to think what films they’ll be making in years to come about the present politics! Catch it if you can – 8.75/10 for me.

Hello Debbie & congratulations to everyone on the birth of this beautiful girl. Welcome to the world Blake, considering your dramatic arrival you look very serene. Being a grandparent is a very special role; we have one of each from our older daughter, our younger girl is expecting her first in late spring & we have a lot of fun. I had two amazing & very different grandmothers; my relationship with my maternal nanny was very close, however, I was aware that her children came first in the pecking order, they were her pride & delight & that’s how it is with me & mine. Being a granny has also made me more interested in the history of my family so that I can pass this on to the generations still to come. I’m not a fan of social media, Pinterest & the Q blogs don’t fall into that category as far as I’m concerned, so I applaud the decision to keep Blake private. Tell us what you’re going to call yourself. Jo

Congratulations on being a nanny !What a wonderful feeling it is.I am sure Blake will have a loving and happy childhood as you are such a warm person so your family must be the same. I think you enjoy being a nanny more than a mum as you can spoil them,we say we don’t but we do. All the best Debbie to you and your family.

Debbie, Congratulations to you and your family on the birth of your beautiful granddaughter. My granddaughter Daisy was born two years ago and I cannot believe what an impact she has on our lives.I love her to bits and people will tell you it’s a different love to your children and that is so true.Enjoy these first months, as it goes so quickly and they seem to grow up so much quicker xx

Just a query – Why are you calling Blake Grandbaby, it is such an impersonal sounding word, when Granddaughter, which she is, sounds so much better and family oriented. Most people I know are proud to refer to their grandchildren as Granddaughter, Grandson etc.
