This week was a real mixture of sunshine and rain, wasn’t it?! Just as I thought we were destined to have nothing but downpours this autumn, suddenly out of nowhere, one of the warmest afternoons – and you should have heard the effect it had in the courtyard down at my place in Devon. In fact, I videoed it – you can see the link below. And of course, walking in the rain with mum and sis, which was a great pleasure given how we nearly lost my sis two months ago. More pics below.
I wore it on several different days in different colours.
Also this week – here’s the early bird order link and sneaky peak of the superb annual Philosophy gift pack, Saturday’s Today’s Special Value. This is one of our festive gift traditions and often sells out really fast so don’t miss it…
I don’t have that show sadly, but I will be on Saturday night at midnight…

What a super weekend I had, walks of over 7000 steps on both Saturday and Sunday. First, I went to Banstead Woods, my old haunt when I lived in Surrey. I got the chance to see the Incredibrella in action, the little one, (A great gift idea, umbrellas) when mum, sis and I went for a long Saturday afternoon walk. It’s where I took Holly and Patch when they were little (these were the original black Labradors who have now sadly died but both mother and daughter lasted till they were 15!). It was one of those ‘sunshine on a rainy day’ days so the brolly was up and down like a … ahem (fill in the blanks yourself! Lol) and we walked and walked and walked. Only got lost once 🙂 it makes a big difference when I get lots of steps in every day and I’m really enjoying still using my Fitbit.
Another Sunday, another super country walk
The next day I was off again – this time with my daughter and my son-in-law and my grand dogs. 🙂 We went to a new place called Alice Holt woods, where there is a Go Ape – have you ever been? I would love to do Go Ape one day, I’ve never done it before – swinging through treetops or climbing on rope walkways suspended high up in the treetops seems like great fun 🙂 don’t you think?!
Knitting up a Storm
After going out with mum and sis, went back for a nice cup of tea. And saw Mum was knitting – from patterns like this. She’s crafting a little cardigan for one of the new babies. Remember there are already four great-grandchildren in our family! And another two to come next year (including my son’s!) Mum knitted some lovely jumpers and hats and booties for our children when they were young, then they all got passed on – well, there were 16 cousins to share them 🙂 Wish I could knit! No patience!!
Monday Away Day
I’m writing again! National Novel Writing Month is ahead of us and I am determined — determined — to finish French or Dutch my works in progress. So off I went on a very rare day off for a little mini workshop with my writing group friends, Maureen and Carolyn. Carolyn’s place in Cambridge is lovely and we had a really fabulous time catching up and putting the world to rights and helping suspense crime writer Carolyn Mahony blow by blow to flesh out plot ideas for her next book. Merryn Allingham (Maureen’s pen name) has written 14 books – FOURTEEN! – since we all met each other nine years ago, she is our inspiration. 🙂 In all that time I’ve only written four novels – puts me to shame! Plus two anthologies and several short stories. I really must get that fifth one finished… Her secret is to write regularly every afternoon come rain or shine – or housework! One day… one day, I will do that too… instead of writing blogs maybe? What do you think?! Lol.
First Autumn Leaves pic
When I sneaked off to do some writing in the George in Hatherleigh this week I saw this tree in the town centre –beautiful colours, aren’t they? I absolutely love the colours of autumn – hence my hair – hehe! There will be lots more of these I’m sure! But when should I begin my annual tradition of ‘Christmas socks pics’…!?
Clocks go Back
Don’t forget to put the clocks back on Saturday night – an extra hour in bed – yay!

What are you doing for Halloween? When my kids were little, face painting was de rigueur, natch. So maybe I should call upon yet another talented relation. My clever makeup artist niece Rebecca is a hair expert, currently touring with Mamma Mia as head of wigs, and posted this on her Instagram this week. Blimmin fabulous don’t you think?
Vlog of the Week

Two films this week and neither were that great, IMO! I saw The Death of Stalin
If you loved Monty Python or The Thick of It, you’ll like this. It wasn’t really a comedy apart from a few moments and a couple of actors who stood out, but it was interesting that it was based on true facts. 6.75/10.
Then I saw Blade Runner 2049 – some great effects, and I love Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling, they were amazing, but some plot holes and an overlong edit meant it got 7.5/10. Glad I saw it though…
