Finally – a Dawson blog!!

Hello everyone,

Well, my goodness -where on earth do I begin? A good place to start I suppose would be by thanking you all for your interest and comments on my lack of blogging. I read your comments, and to be honest I had a range of very mixed emotions, from surprise to guilt with few smiles thrown in.

Surprise – I had absolutely no idea that so many of you wanted to hear from me!
Guilt – Since I hadn't blogged in such a long time I don't tend to follow what's happening, but November 2009 really is shocking!!
Smiles – That some of you were actually defending me!! How lovely are you lot?!!

So I hold my hands up whilst my head hangs in shame for not keeping in touch. So lovely viewers, you're going to have to help me out here if you want a fairly regular blog from me. I'm going to give you a quick synopsis of life "chez Dawson" and anything you want to know (within reason of course) please ask.

You may have noticed that I'm not on air as much as I used to be. At present I am only doing 2 days a week, Mondays and Saturdays. The odd Sunday will crop up if it's a fashion or beauty event, but other than that I am part-time. Some of you mentioned that you remembered I had a couple of ops on my shoulder a while back, but I am absolutely fine now thanks.

The reason that I cut my days is that I now look after my brother after mum passed away 3 years ago. He has been ill for a very long time and she used to look after him but now he lives a stones throw away from my house which is really handy. Just in case anyone thinks I'm out for a dollop of sympathy here, I actually see it as a privilege. Having said that, looking after 2 households and 5 men (1 husband, a brother and 3 sons) does kind of test your patience from time to time.

What age is the norm I wonder for kids flying the nest? My eldest flew the nest a year ago for Australia, but is obviously more of a homing pigeon as he returned 6 months later!! The only other female in the equation is the cat!! Seriously though, I wouldn't change a thing. Nothing makes me happier than having them all round the dining table and me playing the 'mama' cooking. So yes life can be a little hectic sometimes, but that's still no excuse for not blogging with my fellow bloggers!!
Actually I do have something going in my life that to say I am hooked, totally addicted to and absolutely in love with, would be a complete understatement. ZUMBA!!

About a year ago I discovered it and fully intended to start this form of exercise, but as usual (as you all well know), life got in the way. Anyway at the start of the year QVC asked presenters if any of us knew anything about Zumba. Muggins here answered by saying that I intended to start classes shortly and would feed back in due course. Well, the response was, and I quote "Excellent! You are so on our Zumba TSV in May!!"

So since the start of February I have been Zumba-ing. Initially as with most forms of exercise, I thought it would do me good but it was going to be a bit of a drag. Well 6 weeks on and I can honestly say I love love love it !!! And the results have been amazing – 12lbs lighter and more toned than I was 10 years ago! Bring on the Zumba!! They reckon it's "exercise in disguise" and how right they are!! Never done anything quite like it.
So folks watch out for yours truly bopping away (probably rather badly) on May 3rd!! And you'll be pleasantly surprised when you see who the guest is. Think "Strictly"!
And there you have it lovely viewers. Have I redeemed myself? I do hope so. I should warn you that future blogs probably won't be quite as lengthy and maybe not always weekly, but I do promise to stay in contact more often now that I know the score. Do feel free to keep me on my toes on this one!!

And please please, someone blog back soon. I would feel totally dejected if I didn't hear from you after all this. Ask whatever, and let's get to know each other. I'm now looking forward to it. Oh and finally, Margaret, if you're reading this, don't give up on me just yet please.
Lots of love and I'll be checking my blog regularly now.

Anne xxx

yeah! It’s lovely to read your blog and very excited about zumba tsv – just read catherines blog and she mentioned it too. I love zumba it’s so much fun.And you are so much fun too, love watching your shows – it was you who started my 160 or more kipling bag collection and got me going with my bare escentuals (I also hold catherine and julia responsible for kipling addiction!)
Please please keep on blogging as we love knowing what your up to.Oh and by the way you are looking amazing at the moment as other viewers have mentioned on other presenter blogs.

    Hi Anne
Lovely to see you blogging again, glad you and your family are all well, was worried when you hadn’t been on air much. I am sure that people will understand that you are very busy with family life, we are all the same, I have three children myself and a husband and two cats, there never seem to be enough hours in the day. Haha. Just to add my daughter has been doing Zumba since January and absolutely loves it, I am looking forward to the upcoming tsv.
I would like to echo the previous comments you are looking really well, loving the longer hair and I have been inspired by you to try the Bare Escentuals range.
Keep up the good work and keep blogging.
    Love and best wishes

    Hi Anne
It’s so lovely to see you blogging again.I am also very sad to hear your mum passed away, and it’s so nice to see you are looking after your brother.A very similar thing happened to us.My brother in law used to look after my mother in law when she was ill until he fell downstairs in the house and broke his neck.My mother in law has since passed but my brother in law needs caring for now.At the same time my father had cancer and as I have already lost my mum we had to be everywhere at once.Very stressful times eh Anne.Thats why I stuck up for you on the blog and also because you are a fellow scot.We have to stick together.LOL.Take Care Anne and we will blog again.x

    Hi Ann
I’ve never replied to any of these blogs before – there’s a first time for everyone I suppose. Looking after someone is a full time job in itself – I look after my old dad and I only work 4 mornings a week. The rest of the time is spent chasing my tail ! Anyway, its great to see you blogging again – keep it up – we love to hear what you are up to. Your BE show last week was fantastic. I love your presenting skills. You are looking a million dollars at the moment, hair make-up etc. Being around the same age as you, you inspire me to make an effort. Its a pity we don’t see more of you – but family must come first. Take care and keep blogging.

Hi Gina. I so know what you mean about husbands with 6 year old mentalities!!! I’m glad you liked the blouse but sorry it’s not QVC. I got it in a little local shop, so again sorry, not much help I’m afraid. By the way you now hold a special place in my blog world for being the first to respond! Thanks. Take care

Gosh Adrienne! 160 kipling bags? I’m glad I can share the blame with Julia and Catherine for that one. On the old bare escentuals front though I make no apology. I couldn’t be without mine and am glad you feel the same. It’s fab. How long have you being doing Zumba? It’s great isn’t it. Thankyou for your lovely compliments also. Stay in touch.

Hi Cheryl. Glad you’re looking forward to the Zumba tsv. Also pleased you’ve been inspired to try Bare escentuals. Don’t think you’ll regret it. Thanks for your lovely comments. I’m growing my hair for a little while and then I’ll probably see if I fancy a change. I was a little unsure about growing it, but so many people have remarked on it that you never know, I may just turn into a “rapunzel” (not sure on the spelling, but you get my drift)!
    Stay in touch

Oh Sylvia!! How lovely are you?
Gosh it does seem that you’ve been through the mill in terms of looking after everyone. It can be a real struggle sometimes. At the beginning when we brought my brother down from Scotland, I can remember perfecting the craft of cooking 2 seperate dinners in 2 different houses at the same time! I reckon Billy Smart’s circus would be proud of us at times the amount of juggling we do !!! Make sure my love that you make time for you. So important. You know so many people have commented on how well I look which is lovely, but I made a decision at the start of this year to look after myself a bit more. It’s so easy to get run ragged with everything, and when there are people depending on you it kind of drives the message home a bit. So Sylvia, you look after yourself!!! Gosh I sound like your old auntie here! Who knows though, as a fellow scot we may well be related somewhere down the line.
    Cheerio then hen!

Hi Lorraine, Glad you enjoy this particular aspect of Qvc fashion. I have to say though that he is an absolute scream though isn’t he? Mr Pompoos! What a guy! Bring it on and keep us all smiling. That’s what I say.

    Well hello Lynda !
Yer wee comment caught me off guard a bit hen! Had to think but only for a sec. Just incase anyone out there didn’t catch on to Lynda’s comment, it means “long may your chimney smoke”. Which in turn is really a blessing for a long life. I think!! Is that right Lynda? Gosh maybe 30 years south of the border has finally taken its toll!! Haven’t been called “bonnie” in a long long time, so thankyou Lynda.

    Hi K,
Well what can I say? Totally honoured that you’ve chosen me as your first blog! Thankyou. You’re absolutely right about family coming first (you’re also right about the daily chasing of tails!). Glad you loved the Bare Escentuals show the other day. I get soooo excited when I’m doing one of their shows as I just want everyone to try their foundation. Don’t know if you’ve heard me say that without it I look like a roadmap! All those little broken capillaries and redness (but then again you may have seen the before shot and realise that)! Your lovely compliments do not go unappreciated my love, so thankyou.

    Hello Anne
I am actually 81 years old, and still love looking at QVC.
When I was in the army, (Way back in the mists of time), I was statioed in Scotland, at a camp near to Kirkcudbright, on the tank gunnery ranges. This was back in 1946/7, and I still have a hankering to see it again, before I eventually ‘shuffle off’.

Love hearing your stories about Italy, and your shows are always fun, always feel cheered by your humour, cos i am a bit madcap myself.
Love and health to you and your family.

Hi Anne. I love reading all the presenter blogs. You’re such a bunch of lovely positive people – and I guess that’s one of the main reasons so many of us keep tuning in. I am very intrigued by Zumba having never heard of it. I’m a huge AeroPilates addict but always like to learn about new ways of keeping myself in trim so will definitely be watching on 3 May. Honestly, I have thought how really well you look the last few times you’ve been on air. x

Lovely to have you blogging again. You know what us viewers are like we’re nosey devils and like to know what is happening with the presenters on our favourite shopping channel.
Zumba sounds good and you look great on it. All that testosterone you definately need some you time!! I can’t wait to see who the guest will be with the TSV
Keep well and looking forward to your next blog

    Hi Lizz.
Another zumba fanatic! Excellent! I so love it but perhaps tomorrow morning I may have another story. You see I’m off to a class this morning and this evening I’m doing zumba for comic relief. Reckon I may be all zumba-ed out by the weekend!!Didn’t realise they were both on the same day!
Haven’t been to Italy since last year, but going for just a few days at the start of April just to check all is well before we start any regular jaunts as the weather gets better. Wonder if my neighbours would object to a bit of zumba “al fresco” on the terrace! Who knows, maybe they’ll want to join in!

    Hi Marian!
Yes indeed tune to the tsv May 3rd and watch a bit of zumba, I’m sure you’ll get just as hooked as everyone else. It’s absolutely massive! And even if you decide it’s not for you, I guarantee you a good giggle as although I’m only a bit of a novice myself, no-one could ever accuse me of not entering into the spirit of it! (That’s my way of redeeming myself for any lack of co-ordination).

    Hi Anne
I totally agree with you – it is a pleasure and a privilege to look after someone we love and respect when they are needing some care and support. I looked after my father for around three years before he passed away in 1996 and loved every minute of it,like you i was balancing a home and working life but would not have missed looking after dad for all the chocolate in Cadbury’s(tough choice though!!).I wish your brother the bestXX Its lovely to see you blogging again – i was the Linda who posted in your last blog re my childhood trips to the library – your previous blog brought back some very happy memories. I have noticed your weight loss/toning Anne(congratulations as its not easy to do), on your last couple of weekend shows i’ve loved your hair and makeup – you are a great advert for Bare escentuals and Ojon – my favourite look on you was your new year’s day CID cosmetics morning show.I’m in the middle of household renovations – garden, kitchen and bathroom – i know it will be lovely when finished but i’m getting quite frustrated(and very tired) but heyho i employed the builders and wanted the work done. If i remember rightly you had the builders in around the time you hurt your shoulder – is all finished now? and do you like the end result? Nice to speak to you – look after yourself Love LindaX

    Hi Anne,
I have just checked yur blog and I was soo pleased and excited to hear from you! I was never going to think badly of you because I know (as we all shouls, let’s face it!) how hard life can be and it just gets in the way. I’m sure although not ‘work’ really, that it still isn’t something top of your list of priorities to blog to us lol! I want to thank you for that. I am so sorry to hear of your Mum passing 3 yrs ago. I didn’t realise. And although i knew you had 3 boys (my what a lot of work that is!) I wasn’t aware that you now had the responsibility of looking after your lovely brother. How inspirational you are. You absolutely have got the balance right it sounds though. And you would have needed not to blog to us and get used to your new life!!
I am also wanting to say how stunning you are looking, just like the many others have said! You really do look happy and glowing. Your skin, hair and clothes are so lovely and elegant. Please don’t turn into a ‘rapunzel’ though lol! I do think that it can look a bit like ‘trying a bit too hard’ if you know what I mean, in trying to stay youthful!? You are doing a grand job already! Do take care though and can’t wait for your Zumba TSV!

Can’t wait to see the Zumba TSV, I’ve seen it advertised on the odd channel and wondered what it would be like, I am terrible I buy fitness DVD’s and watch them but don’t actually ever get down to doing the exercises so this could be my salvation, I’m apple shaped and becoming more so since I retired, I don’t go to classes as I’ve no one to go with, I’m also intrigued to know who the guest is aswell!!!

You seem alot more happy, generally which is always nice to see. But i have a huge question, I absolutely love your black framed glasses. They look amazing and you really suit them. Who are they by because i want to get some?

    Hi Anne and Maggie,
Just thought I’d say I totally agree with Emma – your specs really suit you!! Very funky. And I hope you don’t mind me saying to Maggie – I know what you mean about having no-one to go to exercise classes with but you know we all do it and it’s not that scary! Most people are friendly and it’s fun anyway! Give it a go and see how you get on – you don’t have to go back if you really don’t like it – but then you may just find it great!!
    Take care all.
