Festival season is well and truly upon us. Glastonbury came and went with mud by the bucket-load, Benicassim was a scorcher, Latitude was as delightful as ever. Though it may seem like we’re approaching the end of sun (say it can’t be true), singing and a few too many proseccos (just us?), there’s still plenty of events, musical or otherwise, to get stuck into this summer.
But how to accessorise for the occasion? It can be tough knowing how to strike the right balance between ‘laid-back boho babe’ and ‘out-there Glamazon’.
We know you love to stay on-trend but keep it classic; that’s why we’ve put together this handy survival guide for you. Read on for the best picks in jewellery, shoes, handbags and more to help see you through the rest of the festival period.
But first, we caught up with Nizhoni guest, Courtney Elkins, who shared why Native American jewellery is so popular for creating that perfect festival vibe, as well as taking a look at our buyers’ favourite pieces…
“Across the United States, Native American jewellery is very popular at festivals. It has a very boho chic vibe and people want real, authentic pieces, which we can provide at a very affordable cost. All products in the Nizhoni line are handmade and hand-crafted by Native American artisans! It’s super exciting to be bringing authentic Native American jewellery to the UK!”
Our buyers’ Nizhoni picks
Silver is understated, chic, and perfect for pairing with the bright colours you’ll be sporting on your kaftan or maxi dress. Nizhoni’s pieces are delicate enough to layer and make use of beautiful gemstones like turquoise and topaz for a refreshing pop of blue. Feathers and eagles feature throughout the collection; a subtle nod to the heritage and tradition behind this fabulous jewellery brand. Make sure to tune in at 2pm on Thursday 21st July for a whole hour of beautiful pieces from Nizhoni.
Whether you’re the Queen of Coachella, or you prefer to live it up at Leeds Festival, symbolic jewellery is the order of the day. Dreamcatchers, eye symbols and coins give your look a ‘hippy’ vibe with all of the style and none of the patchouli. Ombre pieces have also been a popular choice this summer, as well as a classic statement necklace. Whether you choose to stack your stash or wear one stand-alone piece, you can’t go wrong with any of the items below.
Swaying in the sun to your favourite band requires more baggage than you may originally think. You’ll need somewhere cool and stylish to store your bottle of water, sunglasses, phone, baby wipes, selfie stick… the list goes on! Step forward, The Sak, with their range of bags to suit all your summertime needs. Crochet is always a festival favourite; choose from a wristlet, drawstring, crossbody or satchel bag depending on how much cargo you’re carrying or go for classic leather if you’re a minimal kind of gal. Don’t forget to slip in your Ultrasun too! Those rays can be dangerous.
Less of the wellies, we’re all about staying positive and hoping the sun will hold out! Strappy sandals are easy to pair with your dresses, skirt or shorts and will keep your feet cool and comfortable while you’re dancing the day (and night) away. Metallics and patent styles will earn you major style points, while black leather toughens up your floral dresses and skirts.
So you’ve packed your statement necklaces into your crochet handbag and chosen both the metallic sandals AND the leather ones because you just couldn’t decide. But hang on a minute! There’s a still a few key pieces that are essential to have in your festival accessories arsenal.
Maybe, just maybe, the sky will cloud over and a tiny amount of rain will fall. In this case, it’s important to be prepared and a lightweight umbrella that folds away easily is a must. By a similar token, when the sun is shining down and you’re enjoying soaking up the rays, a stylish pair of shades won’t go amiss and they look just as fabulous perched on top of your head when night time falls.
Sparkling accents are pretty much the law at festivals the world over; go for a crystal flower headband for carnival queen cool or a fun glittering belt to set off a simple dress or pair of shorts.
Finally, a fun printed scarf is your ultimate multi-tasking accessory. Wear around your neck as a finishing flourish to your outfit, drape over your shoulders if the weather turns chilly or tie round your head to hide the dreaded ‘second-day hair’.
So there you have it! An array of fabulous options to choose from in your quest for the perfect festival look.
