Feeling the earth move, fighting felines and our Festive Food Hall!

Hi all! I hope you’re keeping well. Looks like we’ve not quite seen the last of the summer sun, but it has most definitely cooled down. I’ve even turned the heating on over the past couple of chilly evenings!

In addition to shopping for a living… I mean working… I have been making the earth move at Chez Huntley!

There’s still plenty to do inside and out, but it’s really nice to be making a start on breaking up all the tired, old, crazy paving stones and preparing the ground for a makeover. I must say I rather enjoyed this job, and another plus, it was a really good workout. I’ll let you know how I get on with the next stage once I get to it!

So, while I’ve been making a ruckus with the building work, my Pixiecat has been brawling with another neighbourhood moggy. I came home to find her limping around the house and I was certain she must’ve broken something, so I got her straight to our vets.

Thankfully, nothing was broken except her dented pride, but she had some very deep claw gouges so had to have an antibiotic injection. She was very needy for the rest of the night and seemed to look tinier and cuter than ever. Bless their little hearts; they do give us a scare from time to time. She’s wonderfully well now, though, and back to defending her turf.

While nursing little Pix I have had the opportunity for some ‘medicinal’ refreshment of my own! OK, nothing medicinal about it, but I class it as research for our upcoming Festive Food Hall event on Monday, 10th October. The Christmas Food Hall showcases a show-stopping kitchen and food event, packed full of our favourite brands here at QVC.

Browse our Christmas Food Hall for delicious festive and occasion foods from our luxury artisan brands, plus gift inspirations for the food lovers in your life. It’s a great chance to prepare and get organised early, to make this Christmas a little more stress-free. It all begins at midnight on Sunday with a Today’s Special Value offer from Green Seasons!

We have several new brands making their debut in this day-long event. I’ve been fortunate enough to try some Drinks in Tubes, one of the new companies featuring on the day. Wow! What can I say? Exquisite quality and fabulously unique presentation, too.

This is the Drinks in Tubes five-piece assorted red and white wine selection. It’s currently only available at QVC and includes five premium French wines.

They are all of very good quality that will make a great gift for any wine lover. It comes complete in protective black card gift box and with individual tasting cards. The company believes that interesting and premium wines should be accessible to all. Drinks in Tubes are all about giving you the chance to taste, appreciate and enjoy wines and spirits by the glass in an unpretentious and fun way.

Each tube gives you a small taste of something interesting and exclusive and makes premium wines much more affordable. Their novel gift packs make this is a wonderful tasting and learning experience. Their roots are in France, with a little splash of Italy, Spain and Argentina.

The company was created in 2007 by passionate French wine growers, who were looking to offer high quality new packaging (a patented glass 100ml tube) to facilitate the sampling of their wine. I think it’s absolutely brilliant!

Now, what could go better with a glass of something lovely than a gourmet snack? Joe & Seph’s popcorn is the ideal treat for yourself or to entertain your guests. They have won countless awards for their fabulously unique flavours. They are bringing us something rather special for our food event: red, green and purple Christmas stockings, filled to the brim with 12 snack bags in the following flavours:

  • Gin and Tonic
  • Caramel Whisky Macchiato
  • White Chocolate and Vanilla Bean
  • Smooth Caramel and Almond
  • Lemon Cheesecake (currently only available at QVC)
  • Three Cheese (currently only available at QVC)
  • Gingerbread Latte
  • Toffee Apple & Cinnamon
  • Orange Chocolate
  • Mince Pie
  • Cheese on Toast
  • Double Salted Caramel

We’ve seen the purple and green before, but the red is brand new and only for us at QVC. It’s an absolute smorgasbord of tasting sensations! I love the Lemon Cheesecake especially! Gin and Tonic is also rather fab. I suggest you get them home and try them for yourself, or even have them sent to someone else as a treat.

Whatever you do, make sure you tune in to see some mouth-watering treats to get you in a festive mood.

See you soon!

Love Catherine xx

    Hi Dee,

I’m so sorry you went through the pain of losing one of your cats. Especially sad when it’s before their natural time.

Since we moved to where we are now this is the first big spat Pixie has had with another cat. Mind you, there have been a few shrieks through the patio doors when she has seen one out there. She is remarkably protective of her territory whereas Popsie will just hide in her shadow looking nervous, bless her! They’re like chalk & cheese.

    Thanks for writing in.

    Hi Jill,

Yes, it’s really nice to find something different and something which has been selected so you don’t have to do the guesswork when choosing a gift for a wine buff. I loved your idea of serving the popcorn with the bubbly on your daughters wedding day! Every wedding day should start like that! I hope all went smoothly and it was a wonderful day all round.

    Hi Jennifer,

Thank you for writing in about cat cuddles. My two have never been very cuddly cats, sadly. Strangely though, they really like to be around us. Always within a few feet and if we move to another room they often follow. Pixie will let me pick her up for a few seconds and, on rare occasions, they will sit on our laps. They were very nervous cats when we got them as they had a really tough time with a cat the previous owners had first which is why they had to be rehomed.

I keep hoping that one day they’ll suddenly realise how wonderful cuddles can be and all my Christmases will come at once but I won’t hold my breath. In the meantime they give us endless pleasure with their funny little ways. They are such lovely characters.

    Hi Roxy,

Thanks for commenting on Pixiecat. She and her sister are British Shorthair Silver Tabbies. They have a very gentle nature and are so sweet.
