Fantasy Football Team??

38

Well, the football season is underway again and for those of you who support a team like me, our Saturday afternoons (or Sundays, or Monday evenings) are no longer our own. I'm just relieved that my team, Crystal Palace, managed to survive – in fact we officially came out of administration today… hoorah!!!

I've never bothered with a 'Fantasy Football Team' before, preferring the real thing, but when an email came round at work that we had our own 'league' I thought I would join in. I spent time selecting my players, checking their form from last season and choosing players I like and players I thought would do a good job for 'my team' – I was quite optimistic when I had finished!

Sophie, on the other hand, is not really into football and just picked a random bunch of names! How is it then that she is several places above me in 'our league'? My captain, Cesc Fabregas, didn't even play, and I've already had to buy in a new goalkeeper as mine, Mark Schwarzer, is injured!!! Oh well, it's a long season and things change, and at least I didn't buy Craig Bellamy like one of my work colleagues – he's not even playing in the Premiership since his move in midweek to Cardiff!!!

After the footie tomorrow afternoon I'm going to 'Margaret's Party'. Thankfully QVC were able to give me the evening off, if not I would never have heard the end of it from Simon Wilson!!! Just wondering what ladybird related item I can get for her as a pressie???

It means I will miss the Tiffany Lighting show I was scheduled to present but at least I have lots of them at home to look at!

See you Sunday afternoon with lovely Mally

Much love,
Julia x

    Hi Julia
Back from hols and was looking for an excuse to speak to you so posting a football blog was a good way to get me back chatting! Hope you are still looking your mormal wonderful self and haven’t missed my replies too much lol
Bulgaria was really good but it was a little too hot for me if Im honest. Was mid 30’s most days! Not a lot of Brits out there too and a lot of Russians. Food I found was ok but not wondeful. Overall cant complain just a pity I have to go back to work on Monday!
Who do Palace play at the weekend? I heard they might be getting Davids in – that would be some signing. Rangers have made a couple of signings since I last spoke to you and one in particular has just gone through today and the lad cost 4M. So much for me moaning that we dont spend any money! I am actually looking forward to the season with a bit of confidence now and I attend my first game of the season at Easter Rd back where we clinched the Title last season. I’m looking forward to it and then the Champions League draw is next week – bring on the glamour.
Look forward to speaking to you
    Take care xx

Hi Julia. My comment isn’t about the football, but i wasn’t sure how else to get in touch. I just wanted to say that having watched the Pilates spacemate presentation the other week for the 30mins you had it on air, it made me convinced i had to try it. What you were saying about how it helped you tone up and sculpt your shape really inspired me to give it a go. I would love a Pilates machine but don’t have the space for it. It took me a while to get to grips with this but now i love it. I have had 3 back operations in the past 10 years and therefore have to be careful what excersise i do but i’m only 35 and i want to be fitter and more toned. This is ideal for me as i am in control all of the time. I can’t do the moves where you are lying on your front as i have rods in my back or the running on the spot, but all the others are fine. In the past i have tried weights and pilates dvd’s but the weights caused too much pain and i eventually got bored with the dvd’s. I know i won’t get bored with this because it feels so nice when i’m using it. It’s relaxing at the same time as giving me a good workout. Already i feel i am getting stronger around my middle and toning my arms and legs. I really want to say thankyou to both you and Marjolein for such a well demonstrated presentation.
    Regards
    Rebecca
PS. I’ll be watching the Mally makeup programmes. I love my makeup shows.

Have a fab time at Margarets Party I’m sure Simon will be on good form. Have received all my B&W items from the 15th anniversary shows love them all but my favourite is the Skull jacket simply stunning. Hope you post a picture on your blog of the party I’m sure you will look amazing what ever you wear.

Have been doing Fantasy Football at work for a few years now. Love it, it’s the only topic of conversation on a Monday morning. We usually have 60 – 70 teams in our league and had my best finish (8th) last year. Does mean you do a lot of yelling at referees on MOTD though, as you see your points disappearing by way of bookings/sending off’s etc…

Hope you had a great time at the party last night. I wish I was a fly on the wall at that one!!!
I got my 2 panda pieces on Thursday, they are just amazing. So well made. My Goddaughter is going to be so pleased.
I hope your mum is feeling a bit better. Please pass on my good wishes to her. She is such a lovely lady.

    Julia,
For info I have played FF for a few years in work, and it’s great fun. It used to be all we talked about on a Monday morning! Sadly now I’m in a different job, different company and it’s much bigger as regards employees, so it’s not as easy to find out if FF is happening.
Enjoy it and let us know how you get on. What did you call your team by the way??
If you have a decent striker or midfielder make him captain, cos if he scores, you double your points…although watch out for those on the injury list!

    Hi Steven
Sounds like you had a pretty good holiday even though the weather was a bit hot for your fair Scottish skin – hope you were using a high SPF or you’ll have Alison Young onto you!!!
Well Davids didn’t play at the weekend ( when we lost ) but did play for most of the cup game last night against Pompey – we lost that one on penalties even though Speroni made a couple of great saves. Hope we don’t lose him in this transfer window, or our season will be over before its begun!! Hope you get a decent draw in the Champions League.

    Hello Rebecca
I am so pleased to hear we have another Pilates convert and that you are finding it is already working well for you. Sounds like you are sensible and listening to your body and know what to do and what not to do – if in doubt check with your doctor. I am just such a huge fan of Pilates cos it doesn’t ‘bulk’ you up too much but really strengthens.
Mally was on good form wasn’t she? I wonder if you got the TSV – the eye colours were right up my street!

Hi Samantha ( and Angela )
We had a really good time at ‘Margaret’s party’ – it was quite a small affair but lovely company. It was the first time Simon had ever met Chris my partner in over 15 years. Chris was roped in to carry the birthday cake which Simon had made with a photo of Margaret as a child on it – she looked so sweet.
I did take a couple of pictures on my phone so I will post them if I can work out how to transfer them LOL!!!!!!

    Hi Karen
I don’t think I’ve quite got the hang of it yet! I picked my team on who I thought were good players, not on who I thought would earn me the most points SO, after the Man City game on Monday, my son Daniel suggested I played a ‘wild card’ and changed my team ………….. it took me the best part of an hour and I’m still not sure if I’m going to amass many points!
Sophie is well ahead of me – not sure how she has managed to afford Tevez, Drogba and Berbatov???? I am banking on my Spanish duo of Fabregas and Torres to start earning me some points!
FYI – I shout at refs anyway when I am watching MOTD!!!!!

    Hello Gaynor
Thanks for your tips – I think I am starting to get the hang of it. I have had a poor start cos I have Fabregas as my captain and he didn’t play in the first game and only came on as a sub last weekend BUT it’s a long season so I am going to stick with him!
I did my team in a hurry so the name is a bit boring – ‘Roberts Rovers’!!!! ………. the kit as you might imagine is red and blue!!!

    Hi Julia
oh your poor mum. Shingles can be very painful. My Mum had it a few years ago, and at that time, a Chinese friend of ours advised she try lemon balm tea. She basically boiled it up, then when it was cool enough to apply to the skin on a cotton wool pad, she did this 2 or 3 times a day. She also tries red pepper powder, which she mixed up with e45 cream, that eased the pain a little. Mum couldnt take usual drugs as they would have caused adverse affect to her heart meds.
Im so glad you all had a good time at the party. I can imagine Margaret is lovely.
    Take care Julia

So sorry to hear about you Mum’s shingles, my sister had them when I was little. I’ve not had them myself, but can remember having chickenpox at 26! The worst part was having them on my head and not being able to sleep or wash my hair because they were sooo painful! The Dr gave me Piriton tablets and calomine lotion back then, but no doubt things have changed since! Hope you Mum feels better soon.

Also this is very nosy so tell me to mind my own, but are you & Chris married? You always say partner though I know many do also. Just that I always thought the lovely Ali K & Colin were married til I read a reply to a comment left on her blog! Every days a school day!

    Hi Annette
As you can see on the new blog, I managed to get the photos downloaded ……….. or should I say Sophie did!!!!! Don’t laugh, but I didn’t realise you needed to install software first!!! Anyway, even after installing the software it wouldn’t work until Sophie realised that I needed to turn the bluetooth on my phone off ( I wondered why it had been drinking battery!!! ). So disappointed when I got them onto my computer that there was only 1 of me with Simon, Margaret and Ali ( model ) and I couldn’t post it cos Margaret’s face had some weird red light on it which made her look like the devil!!!!! The one of Jilly, Debbie and me was quite nice though?
I also had chickenpox as an adult when my children were young ( I think I’ve mentioned it before ) and it was awful but I think from all accounts shingles is worse – poor Mum.
Thanks for your good wishes for her

We have Scunthorpe today, away. Not sure if Davids will play – I saw a bit of footage from the cup game and honestly he is a different class!! I think it will be very good for the youngsters to have him around to learn from. I think too many young players today think they know it all when there is still plenty of room for improvement!

    Hi Julia
Not so good at Scunthorpe was it. Were you there? Did Davids Play? The draw wasnt the kindest to us for the Chnmpions League – I think we’ll be lucky to get 3rd ahead of the Turks. You never know though and I’d rather be in it that not! Looking forward to man Ure at home too. 24th November I think it is. Old Trafford in two weeks is a daunting prospect but at least that gets that game out the road first!
Davids should be good for Palace in the long run. Tremendous signing I think. Might take time to settle in though. Its the Internationals this week so a little time to get his team mates. Ironically England play Bulgaria! I could have wished them luck when I was across there! lol. only kidding Julia!
Yes I have been back at the gym. I’d be lying if I said I am back to reaching the levels I did before holiday but I am getting there…. slowly !! Im sure you’ll agree it takes time to get back to that certain level of fitness. Are you still on your weight loss program? I think you look fab at the moment. No not a great result for us at Scunthorpe – Davids has been playing at right back. I haven’t seen a live game with him playing so something to look forward to.
I HOPE you were JOKING with your little comment about Bulgaria!?!
Isn’t it incredible how so many players get injuries prior to the International games – a sceptic might think they don’t want to play for their country.
Gotta share this with you…………. I played a Wild Card in my fantasy team cos they were doing SO badly. Lampard ( my new captain ) misses a penalty, so I get docked points, Yaskelainnen( don’t think you spell it like that?) – my new keeper – got sent off, so I get docked more points, Zamora picks up an injury, Crouch fails to score after his hattrick mid week, and Jack Wilshire gets himself arrested!!!!!!!!!! At least Torres scored. I’ll keep you posted but I think I am probably bottom of our work league at the moment LOL!!!!!!!

Of course I was joking about Bulgaria Julia – honest! I’m now a Palace fan so anyone you want to win I can just about stretch to – even if its England lol. I hate when Rangers players go and play for their countries because 9 out of 10 times one of them picks up an injury. Not so bad when the games are qualifiers but international friendlies are a pointless waste of time. Im not ashamed to admit I am very much a club first country 2nd person when it comes to football. You will need to post your team Julia! That was a good attempt at the spelling of your new keeper – think it begins with a J. Will we just stick with Jussi between us :) I’ll give you some tips and we’ll see you shooting up the League. Midway through my 2nd week back time flys. It’ll soon be Christmas at this rate! There have been a few shows on QVC already about Christmas. A guy in my work has a counter down to it! He winds everyone up with that as you can imagine.
