Fabulous Fortnight

51

Well what a fabulous fortnight we have just had with Easter and then the Royal Wedding! I hope lots of you enjoyed the extra Bank Holidays and maybe some of you took the 3 days in the middle off and had yourselves a holiday..? I didn't, I think I've had quite enough holiday just recently!!!

I did have a few days off over Easter in my normal pattern of working days and thoroughly enjoyed not only the weather but also seeing my team, Crystal Palace, scrape a win against Leeds United on Easter Monday which virtually guaranteed our survival in the Championship. I'm hoping for a better season next year as that was much too close for comfort!!

And then the Royal Wedding… WOW!!! I hadn't really given it too much thought as it seemed to come around so quickly, but I sat down to watch it before leaving for work and was transfixed. Everything went so smoothly and looked so amazing, but the thing that really moved me was the music… I'm not ashamed to admit that at one point I had a tear in my eye.

I thought the choir were superb and the musical arrangement of Jerusalem was the best I have ever heard. I'm convinced that nobody in the world could have put on this particular event better – I was very proud and wish the royal couple all the best for a happy future together.

The rest of 'my' Royal Wedding day was spent at QVC but I didn't mind – an hour with Lulu and 2 hours with Simon Wilson… and that's supposed to be work!! LOL!!

Zumba DVD collection And then of course came Zumba. Although I'd heard of it, as there are some classes in my area, I'd never tried it before. The day prior to the TSV day, Sophie, my daughter, and I put on the beginner DVD and had a go.

I think of myself as being reasonably fit but after the instuctional DVD and the 20 minute workout I was 'glowing'!!!! I was wondering how I was going to get through a whole hour and talk at the same time but Matt and Enrico made it such fun that it passed in a flash. Let me know how you get on if you bought it.

Annalee + Hope print top More great shows to look forward to with a new fashion range launching today during 'Fashion on Friday' at 5pm – it's called Annalee + Hope and this collection is full of wearable, very affordable separates. Then tomorrow it's the Liz Earle TSV which I would recommend buying early as it's probably their best ever!

Speak soon, Julia xx

    Hi Julia
I thought the Royal Wedding was wonderful.I couldn’t wait to watch it and it exceeded my expectations.I did wonder about driving to St.Andrews which is only about 20mins away from my house to sit and watch it,but I’m glad I just sat in the comfort of my home and I never missed a second.I shed a tear when William and Harry appeared as I thought how proud Princess Diana would have been. They were both so handsome and in particular I think there is something so endearing about William. Then Catherine appeared and wasn’t she just so beautiful.I wish them both a Long, happy and healthy life together.Take Care Julia x

    Hi Julia
I also had a tear in my eye during the royal wedding, especially when she asked him if he was happy(and he said yes) when they first entered their carriage after the ceremony had finished – William and Catherine come over as such a lovely and down to earth couple and they seem to be real friends as well as a married couple, now lets hope for a baby in the next couple of years. William and Harry are a wonderful example of modern royalty, they both connect with the public at all age groups, they are a wonderful tribute to their lovely mother – Diana. I received my Zumba TSV yesterday(i left Anne a comment saying i was dancing in my lounge at quarter to one in the morning and loving it,luckily David,my partner was on a business trip)) and have done a couple of the basic sessions – i love this excercise routine although it doesnt feel like excercise,i’m going to alternate my pilates inc the Aero board with Zumba and i’m hoping to take a couple of inches off my waist(middle age spread i’m afraid). Both Anne(hasn’t she done well) and yourself looked fab, you both represent us 50 plus ladies brilliantly. I also bought the OPI TSV and received that this morning – i’m not disappointed(never am with OPI) with this collection and am looking forward to my auto deliveries in August and November – i love the idea of the navy shatter in the November collection. The Annalee and Hope collection sounds good – i’ll be tuning in to your usual 5pm show tonight.I’ve recently had a bit of a spend up on some Attitude by Renee pieces – her asymetrical tops in both orange and sage green and the matching cosi cardigans in the same colours – i’ve left a review as i’m so impressed by the quality, the colours are so “on trend” at the moment with the “block colour” trend and the orange is bright but very classy and Renee’s experience as a fit model shines through in the fit of the garments.Lovely to speak to you again, look after yourself. Love LindaXX

hi Julia, nice to see you back. I agree with your comments about the royal wedding. We dont always get it right! but boy do we know how to celebrate a national event. Nobody does it better! Can i ask you, the body shimmer that you are wearing i believe is Laura Geller. Am i right? and if so which actual product is it? Keep up the good work!

I thought the Royal Wedding was beautiful!!! I also got transfixed and had to watch it all! They are such a lovely couple.
I did manage to get the first advanced orders of the Zumba TSV, can’t wait to get it and give it a go!! It looked so much fun and I thought it could be a nice addition to my pilates which I adore!!
I really enjoyed the recent B&W shows, hope Simon has a TSV coming up soon.
Great to read your blogs Julia, keept them coming!!

    Hi Julia,
Hope you enjoyed the recent fab, weather and the Royal Wedding as much as we did, however madam, you are creating havoc among some of your viewers in middle England, let me explain, I was watching today your presentation of the Kenneth Jay Lane products one of which i ordered, in the middle of the show my daughter Joy and her fiance Gary, arrived to pick me up as arranged to head out for lunch,my daughter is a qvc fan also, and was really struck by the products you were demonstrating so we decided to continue watching,i had thought Gary had fallen asleep due to boredom as he had nt said a word all during the show although we were chatting away among ourselves, after showing the set of 10 doorknocker earrings ,you were holding up the set of borbal type white golf ball necklace around your neck, and you said something on the lines of “dont they look pretty” when out of the blue Gary blurted out “Julia you have the finest pair of doorknockers iv seen for a long time” ( i think myself he was in a trance like state and thought he was out with the lads), the embarrassing silence that lingered for what seemed like forever was eventually broken by us all bursting out in laughter, at present im in the back of the car heading for lunch ,with poor Gary totally denying to Joy that he was talking about Julia Roberts cleavage, his red face says it all really,

    Hi Sylvia
Lucky you living so close to St. Andrews – a beautiful part of the British Isles! Yes I think Diana would have been very proud of her two boys and the way they connect with people, what a shame she couldn’t have been there – maybe in spirit though?
There was a picture in the press of Kate shopping at her local supermarket on Anglesey and although it was good to see her doing such normal things and looking so relaxed, I kind of hope they will have some privacy.
Glad you enjoyed the wedding as much as I did

    Hello Linda
Another one not afraid to admit you shed a tear over the Royal Wedding. It was such a wonderful spectacle wasn’t it and left so many people in a really good mood …………. sadly it will probably evaporate quite quickly with all the ‘bad’ news we get bombarded with.
I hope you don’t live in an upstairs flat if you were zumba’ing at that time in the morning. Zumba combined with Aero Pilates should deliver you some great results – TSV from Pilates coming up next weekend, can’t wait to see Marjolein!
Hope you liked the Annalee and Hope designs?? – I’m very impressed and inexpensive too.

    Hi Julia,
Hope Ali has given you some advce to pass on about my eyes?! Annette is interested too – see last blog reply. I just had to say I just read Debs (F) blog and watched her funny video she has such an infectious laugh! It made me think that you all have your little quirks! Debs with her laugh, Anne with her ‘I tell you what…’ (think Scottish accent!), Ali K with her ‘Corking…’ or ‘Cracking’ and also talking with her hands (pinching her thumb and forefinger, and actually you talk with your hands too – putting both palms out in front of you in mid air when you’re excited! Me too though) You with your ‘You know sometimes…’ phrase. You should do a quirky calendar like that next year with your ‘sayings’ on it!
    Have a nice weekend!
    Susan
PS Thanks for asking Ali again and I look forward to the response.

Play-offs here we come – looking forward to a rematch in a couple of seasons time (in the Premiership, of course!!)

I am of a certain age where it is getting difficult to shift that spare tyre –
noticed it one year after the menopause.
You looking amazing, how did you shed those extra pounds as I want to
do it for health reasons and look great for over 50.
I know the adrenals and thyroid glands can become under active once you
    get past the menopause.
    Got any tips for me.

    Hi Julia.
I loved the Royal Wedding (but missed my QVC ‘fix’ that day)!
My mother-in-law was the Civic Mayor of Doncaster a few years ago and I was her Consort. One of the highlights was being in the pew in front of Lesley Garrett at a civic service for Doncaster in the town’s Minster as the congregation were singing Jerusalem. Needless to say, the rest of us were whispering compared to Lesley!
Other highlights included meeting Princess Anne (who was really lovely) and attending one of the Queen’s garden parties at the Palace (the other Palace Julia!) I have to say though, I was more thrilled when I received an invitation to my first QVC beauty bash later that year from the Queen of Beauty. (Don’t tell the actual Queen though, and definitely don’t tell my mother-in law!)
You have been a real inspiration to me since I started watching QVC about five years ago. You are a shining example of how getting older does not necessarily mean getting less beautiful. Though it takes a bit more effort, the results are so worth it. xx

    Hi Julia,
Thought i’d reply here instead of the last blog and say thanks to you and Ali for speaking about my eyes. I didn’t think about shea butter. Thankfully the worst has gone but just a little remainder. Think my therapist – sounds awfully posh doesn’t it – was right about the stress. I did use propolis and collagen as was suggested also, with no reaction – Annette I also couldn’t use Floracil as it stung like mad – as did anything really, even Cleanse and Polish!
Interesting about the dancing Julia – I did ballete and have dine salsa, latin american and ballroom since childhood too – just a hobby though but I know dancers so yep definately hard work too and can destroy your feet lol!
    Thanks again.

The thing that impressed me most was the crowds and how well behaved and together they were in their joy.” not a bit of trouble”.It was lovely to see such a large crowd of all ages enjoying thrmselves and each others company. It made me proud to be british.Hope these scenes give foreigners a better image of britain than we have had in the recent past.Oh by the way Iv’e bought the zumba kit and look forward to trying it. My daughter has already asked if she can borrow it.I cant have anything for myself. Lots of love Jenxxx

    Hi Julia
I will definately let you know how i get on with my Zumbaing!
Annette, we will be Skinny Minnys soon enough! I just feel so weird. Not having ever had any extra weight to drag around, just feels a bit alien to me. Even when I was pregnant with my daughter, I only put on 13Lbs, and she weighed 6lbs 2oz, and was almost the same weight when I had my son but he was a pound heavier. I also lost all the weight within 3 days, so it wasnt an issue then either. All the ladies in the hospital hated me right enough, but what can you do. I was just lucky, its in my genes, as was I when I left hospital!!!!
Not to worry, we will Zumba the hours away, and be fit and healthy in no time!!
Glad Bobby is well, and recovered from his ordeal.
Susan, you had me LOL just then. I could imagine all the presenters and their little “sayings” Ali Youngs is the word “actually” I counted one time, and she said it 6 times in one sentence!!!!!!! I actually think that has to be an actual record, and if its actually not, then it actually should be!!!!

    Hi Vivien
Thanks for your lovely compliment. My best advice is to do it slowly. I started with the Diet Chef 1st of March last year and upped my exercise regime – Pilates is fantastic for the midriff area and Aeropilates great for strengthening the tummy muscles. We actually have a TSV launching Saturday midnight into Sunday so try and tune in to some of the shows and see if you think it might be good for you.
My biggest worry was putting the weight back on but I have managed to keep the 2 stone off ….. so far.

    Hi Liz
I have just replied to Vivien about my weight loss. I didn’t do any extreme diet – i just started off with Diet Chef, which trained me to eat less, and I upped my exercise routine particularly Pilates – although I do walk quite a lot now and in the summer I swim too. I think the Zumba is also brilliant for shifting the pounds but I would say you still need to do some exercises specifically for your core – like Pilates or Yoga.
Might be an idea to get your thyroid checked if you think it may be underactive.

    Hi Una
You are so lucky to have dropped your ‘baby weight’ so quickly. I put on 2 stone with Daniel, who weighed in at 9lb 1oz, and 3 stone with Sophie, who weighed in at 9lb 5oz …… just as well I stopped there!! After Sophie I found it really hard to lose the weight and that’s when I got the Weight Watchers commercial. I lost a stone and a half and weighd less than I did before I had the children – unfortunately it crept back on over a number of years.
I know what you mean about certain words and phrases that we Presenters use – sometimes it’s ‘thinking time’ and sometimes tiredness kicks in. I wonder how may words Ali Young and I have spoken on live TV over the last nearly 18 years? No-one will ever know……..
    Good luck with your zumbaing

    Hi Julie
I’m sorry the Decleor hasn’t worked for you. I used it when it first came out and it was fantastic for my issues and it worked really quickly, even the the cell turnaround is between 28 and 35 days dependant on age. I stopped using it along with all beauty products when i had my major skin issues 18 months ago and just used pure oils for a while. I had started to notice a deterioration in the quality of my skin, but thankfully I can now use product again and things are improving. I have been using the Elemis neck and bust cream for 4 or 5 months and it has made a big difference – it is richer than the Decleor one but I think my older skin is more accepting of it now.
If you have only had the decleor one 3 weeks you can still send it back and maybe try the Elemis one instead?

I’m wondering if you tried the L’Occitane shea butter on your eyes?? Definitely best to keep it simple when you are having a reaction – I was having to use hydracortisone for a while and really hated it. Now it’s all calmed down I’m really enjoying the Decleor gel/cream that we had in an OTO earlier in the year – it’s giving me a bit more moisture than the Gale Hayman eye lift gel which I was always such a fan of. Still can’t use out and out creams though, too heavy for me!
I only tell it how it is on wanting to buy things – was it the Annalee and Hope range?? I liked a lot of the designs and have in fact now got several pieces – also loved the Tiana B maxi I was wearing the other night, but no I can’t buy everything I would like as I would be ‘broke’!!

    Hi Julia,
Hope you are well, it’s been great to take time out over the long bank holiday weekends, although being on call and running your own business any down time is good!
The royal couple did look great and very romantic day too! It seems looking good and being in shape these days is common place for most celbs you self included! Trying hard not write lines of compliments about you Julia x!!! But you have always looked great but you just seem to look even better!!!
My theory is this! Everyday the body does two things! It breaks down and then rebuilds it’s self! But as we become older the breaking down becomes faster than the rebuild. This is why we age! It is possible to slow this process down, so we break down and rebuild at the same time! or we can even go one stage further and rebuild faster! this is the essence of bodybuilding! I’am not talking about being 300lb’s of muscle but being fit and healthy looking lean in shape and living strong and long.
There are multi million pound diet industry out there i say listen to the people that are doing it for real walking the walk, like you Julia. If i can add any advice to people out there, i myself will be competing as fitness model competitor at the (NPA classic) drug free natural body building show this summer.
We are both huge fans of pilates its given me my mobility and strength back from a serious back injury, but as you well know Julia. Exercising safely and effectively is very important as well as the nutrition that is needed to support you through your day to day.
Maybe this can be a platform for your next blog! On your on going success on looking great and being in shape.

Una – We will both get there in the end, I’ve already had a couple of goes after recording the zumba show with Julia!
Steve – ‘Best of Luck’ with your body building competition, I appreciate all the hard work that you have to do to get your weight right plus all the fat you need to loose in order to show the muscles at their best. I supported my nephew, Gareth, a number of years ago and I hadn’t seen him for a few weeks. It was a real shock at first, because of all the weight and fat loss, not only from his body, but his face too…I’d never seen his cheek bones before, but it was needed to get into his category. I was really proud to see him on stage and don’t think I’ve ever shouted so much! He only ever entered a couple of times and has since turned to Strongman compettions.
Hope you do really well, the atmosphere is fantastic…enjoy the day!

Thought I would let you know regarding my weight loss program.
As I have been vegetarian for 30 years my B12 levels were low as were my
iodine levels as I dont eat fish so advised to eat seaweeds (not from Japan)
and take kelp tablets daily for thyroid health.
For my hormones and adrenals maca and ginseng will bring back strength
and balance to stop adrenal burn out after the menopause.
Also to watch portion control and exercise more to rev up metabolism.
As for my skin found an an round wonder oil/butter for feet, nails, hair and skin –
its so pure raw and organic you can eat it – it smells divine if you would like a
sample I can send it to QVC, just let me know.

    Hi Julia,
Yeh I’ll be watching the pilates shows as I like to pick up tips from yourself and Marjoline. I was wondering if there are any moves I could do for the back? I sometimes get back ache, particularly in the lower back area.
Can’t wait for the B&W TSV, I just think Simon’s pieces are so unique and fabulous!
    Enjoy the pilates shows Julia.

    Hello Steve
What a lovely message. I know how passionate you are about Pilates and the great things it has done for you and likewise you know how it has changed me, quite literally, over the last 14 months.
Wouldn’t it be fantastic if we have found the ‘magic anti-ageing equation’!!! I am a firm believer in moderation … I don’t spend hours in the gym every day, but an hour 3 or 4 times a week seems to work for me along with a balanced diet not eliminating anything but keeping the ‘naughty’ things to a minimum.
I am really chuffed that I am keeping the weight off as that has always been my problem in the past.
Wishing you all the best with your competition
    love

    Hi Susan
I think I ‘needed’ a new Pilates machine now that it’s not just me using it + I have had that one for nearly 10 years. Shows how well made they are though cos there is nothing wrong with the old one really, just a bit creaky …… like me!!!! LOL

    Hi Annette
Thanks so much for ringing in the other night …. you were FAB!!!! It was really nice to put a voice to the name – did you enjoy it? You didn’t sound at all nervous.
My Chris amazed me by sitting and watching as much of the Royal Wedding as I did – like me he thought the music was wonderful.
Haven’t had your letter yet so will keep a look out for it

    Hi Julia
Chris has definitely posted my letter 1st class, maybe it will arrive today, although anything is possible!
Thank you for saying I was FAB, it was really nice talking to you and Marjolein, hope I didn’t waffle on too much. Chris was downstairs watching and recording the show and I was in the office, having a megga flush and extremely nervous LOL! I’m quite shy really and like to work people out before I open up…is that a Gemini thing, do you think?
We watched it back aftrwards and Chris said I did brilliantly, but I could just hear a quiver in my voice, which sounded nothing like my perception of how I sound…funny how you think you sound, to how you actually do!
One good thing came out of it, firstly Chris asked me to show him some exercises on the Aeropilates sometime, but last night I was teaching him how to use the Kettlebells and gave him a routine to start off with. Quite funny, because he is starting off with my ‘girlie pink’ kettlebells to get used to the swings. Before my accident and the now brilliant pilates, I had done really well using kettlebells, my ‘btm’ had never been so toned!
Soooo pleased you’ve got the 4695 Aeropilates machine, isn’t it great…I love the wider bed, flared bar and the larger rebounder which was one of the reasons we went for this model, because of Chris’ size 11 feet LOL!
    Thanks again Julia

    Hi Liz
Thanks for sharing your health routine with me – as I also don’t eat fish I might have to investigate kelp ( why not from Japan? – do you mean because of the radiation leak? ). I know about ginseng but what is maca – I thought that was Paul McCartney LOL.
I do worry about my adrenals because of the job I do – my acupuncturist is always moaning at me!!!
I would love to try your wonder oil / butter if it’s not too much trouble, or you could just post the name and how to get it if that’s easier.
    Keep it up
    love

    Hi Alana
Hope you enjoyed the Pilates shows? What a good idea incorporating a pull up bar – personally I wouldn’t use it more than twice a week cos I don’t want to ‘bulk up’ on the upper body, but boy am I feeling it as it has worked muscles I don’t normally get to. You should check out marjolein’s lighterliving.com for advice on specific exercises, but I would have thought stomach massage ( with the c curve in your back ) might be a good one to try??
I’m also looking forward to Simon’s TSV on the 24th
    see you there

SHHHHHHHH! – let’s just sweep that one under the carpet! Like you I hope they have a long and happy life together and hopefully no rows where ‘things’ might be mentioned!
    Glad you enjoy my shows
