I'm a firm believer that you should treat yourself to a spa treatment once in a while, whether it is a personalised facial or top-to-toe body massage.
It's a great way to relax and have a bit of 'me' time, but I know it can be quite difficult to find that spare hour. So, I've put together a few tips to help you create a spa in the comfort of your own home.
Preparing the skin is essential as it's your first step to receiving all the benefits from your spa heaven. Exfoliating the body will not only eliminate dead skin cells and leave the skin silky soft, but it will allow the skin to absorb the following products that you apply and they will be more effective. Remember to exfoliate the face whilst treating the body too.
Today modern spas have still kept to the original concept of that of the Roman's, using the therapeutic value of water as an essential step to treat the body. Therefore the second step to create your spa heaven is to create your own hydrotherapy treatment.
Light a candle to set the right environment and allow yourself to awaken your senses and inhale the relaxing fragrance. Pour a bath product or oil to a warm, not too hot, bath and soak in the bath for at least 20 minutes to truly reap the all the benefits from the bath oils.
Use this time to lie back and relax and treat the face and the eyes with a mask. Whilst treating the skin to a face mask, treat the windows to your soul, an extremely fragile area which needs TLC, with an eye compress.
Once the body has had time to reap the benefits of the hydrotherapy treatment and the mask, it is now time to truly indulge yourself with a self-massage. Apply either aromatherapy oil or an intensive body moisturiser and massage the body.
Here are few massage techniques you can try:
When applying your final product, gently squeeze the skin along the hips, working outwards and over the thigh area. This will help with sluggish areas and is great if you're detoxing.
If your tension is in your shoulders, gently squeeze the shoulder with the opposite hand working out from the neck towards the arms. Repeat this movement several times then move on to other shoulder.
If your tension is in your feet, hold the arch of your foot with both hands. Apply pressure with fingertips, drawing hands outwards. Repeat this movement several times then move on to other foot.
Try and have the house to yourself and make it a quiet zone with all mobile phones off.
- Use candles to create a relaxing environment. Relaxing slow soft music will help sweep away all your worries and clear all your thoughts too.
Now the mind, body and spirit are ready for deep sleep, one of the key ingredients for inner beauty.
