Liz gives a sneak peek into what’s in store and explains how she prepares her skin for summer…
"While beautifully soft, clear skin is on many women’s wish lists all year round, it’s definitely even more of a priority for us in the summer.
This time of year there’s no chance of hiding away under layers of clothes and make-up, so radiant skin, from your face right down to your feet, is the ultimate summer confidence booster.
This is why I’ve carefully selected nine of my favourite radiance-enhancers, to make sure you enjoy the summer knowing your skin looks good… even if the great British weather isn’t quite as glorious!
So to celebrate our July TSV, I just wanted to share with you a few tips that give me a little extra confidence to face the summer:
Three essential skincare steps
I always Cleanse & Polish, tone and moisturise twice a day all year round. As heat and humidity can make skin shiny and greasy, thorough cleansing with a concentrated yet gentle cleanser, such as Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, is so important to remove sebum and sweat and help avoid blemishes. Secondly I find a sweep of toner, like our Instant Boost Skin Tonic, is the perfect way to freshen my skin.
The third essential step is of course moisturising, but your choice of moisturiser may need to change in the warmer months. If you find your skin is shiny a few hours after application, or if you've become more breakout-prone, it’s likely you need a formula that is not as rich.
Check you are using the right amount (remember no more than the size of a fingernail) and if you’re still suffering with excess shine or breakouts, then opt for a lighter formula.
Give dull skin the brush off
One of the best (yet least expensive) things you can do to improve your skin is to body brush on a regular basis. It can help to encourage the blood flow freely and perk up your body in general. Choose a stiff-ish brush that will create friction without scratching the skin, then make it part of your morning routine.
Every morning (before you shower) start brushing the soles of your feet, then work up the lower legs and all over your thighs and buttocks in long, smooth, upward strokes. Continue up your stomach, steering clear of the delicate breast area, then work up your arms, from your wrists to your neck.
Follow this with a shower using a revitalising body wash, such as Energising Body Wash, and if you’re feeling brave finish with a jet of cold water to help tone the skin. Then massage a light body lotion such as Energising Body Lotion into your skin. This product is great if you’re preparing for the beach, as it’s packed with a blend of 19 naturally active ingredients, which all work together to help improve skin elasticity and appearance.
I start by applying our Foot Scrub, which is formulated to buff and smooth away hard skin on heels and soles, instantly revealing smoother skin beneath. We’ve combined hard-working natural pumice particles with avocado oil, peppermint and rosemary essential oils, to create an intensely smoothing and refreshing combination.
After rinsing the foot scrub off my feet with warm water and towel drying them thoroughly, I’ll apply our Foot Repair Moisturiser, which is rich in some of my all-time favourite naturally active ingredients.
These include pure shea butter, which we source from an African women’s co-operative in Ghana, and skin smoothing wheatgerm oil (rich in d-alpha tocopherol, the natural form of Vitamin E) to moisturise even hippo-hard skins. Best of all, it sinks in fast so won’t leave tacky footprints or have you sliding out of your sandals.
Peppermint, rosemary and seven other wonderful aromatic essential oils combine to create the freshest of scents – it really is an addictive and highly refreshing aroma. We’ve also included an ingredient called farnesol to help keep odour-causing bacteria at bay, leaving feet sweet-smelling and fresh.
Finally, I’ll add two coats of nail polish to my toenails and walk out of the door ready to greet the summer!"
