Toby and Ellie

Ellie “Leads” us on & Win the Chance to be on QVC !

Hi again and I hope this finds you all well.

EllieYou may remember in my last blog that our 14 weeks old Beardie pup, Ellie, decided that her lead was the work of the devil himself and fought like a fish on the end of a line when we tried to walk her! Thank you for the helpful suggestions received.

Great News! We/she cracked it! The general view to solving this was one of patience.

First we decided to make sure that Ellie saw the lead in a positive way and not a punishment – she soon realised that the lead meant “walkies”. She then began to understand that a few yards walk on the lead meant a good run around off it. I’m sure it helped her to see Toby so happy to go on his lead as well.

Please let us inAlthough I’m not a fan myself of the extending style leads, my wife Tracey bought one that extended several meters and this has allowed Ellie a lot of freedom in the Park but more importantly allows her to stop Ellie over exercising with the older dogs.

It has also enforced Ellie’s growing trust of “a lead” as they don’t restrict movement as much – so in an open space I can see the benefits and she soon walked beautifully with it and will walk on her original fixed puppy lead as as well. As you’ll see from my latest pics – she’s growing so fast !

This week on QVC…

On Thursday (23rd October),  I’ll be presenting a 2nd Anniversary Show of famous Interiors Designer brand Collier Campbell with the Executive Chairman Judy Lever. The range features a wonderful selection of duvet sets and colourful items for your home.

Collier Campbell has become an iconic name in British design over the past 50 years; founded by two sisters in London in the 1960s, it has been going strong ever since. The brand has collaborated with many of the world’s most iconic brands including Liberty and Habitat, and Yves Saint Laurent, who used their designs as the inspiration for his first ever ready-to-wear collection.

They celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2010 with an exhibition at the National Theatre. Some of their designs are held in the world’s great design museums – for instance in the permanent collection at the Victoria & Albert museum in London.

All the designs are hand painted which gives them a special quality, with imaginative use of colour and pattern, drawing inspiration from a wonderful design library, and making vintage modern! I hope you can join me at 7pm this Thursday.

    Hi Dale,
So pleased Ellie has accepted the lead, I have never used one of those extended leads but I know they are very good, especially when you do not want them running about to much.
It looks like Toby and Ellie are great chums now, as time goes by they will have great fun together, and he will always protect her.
    She is certainly growing.
They grow up much to quickly I have found that with my dogs, I have always believed in them having their Puppyhood before too much training. We do a lot of this as they are all Working Dogs. A house is not a home without a dog or in my case lots of dogs, only two live indoors, others are kennelled out, but not loved or fussed any less than those in the house.
Take care any carry on enjoying those gorgeous Dogs.

Hi Jean, Thanks for your comment – they do get on really well but they also have their own spaces – which is nice – I’ve linked to a Video of them running together in my latest blog. We are on the same wavelength re: letting Ellie be a Puppy – she sits, stays and gives us her paw – all really learnt in 5 mins at Dinner Time ! But I’m not giving her a hard time just yet, walking to heel or restricting her movements off lead – all in good time ! Dale x

    Hi Dale
I have had two dogs together several times and now have a black lab (Harry) and a cocker spaniel (Daisy) they are best friends and such a joy to watch together!! I’m sure Toby and Ellie will be the same but beware females tend to dominate!!
I want to tell you also that my husband and I have just returned from a 14 night med cruise on the Ventura as shown by you back in May–it was FANTASTIC!!!
    Best wishes Mandy

Hi Mandy Well firstly – you are so right re: Female dominance ! Ellie’s breeder Carole warned us this would happen – I’ll be writing more about this in my next blog :)
I’m so glad you enjoyed your cruise – as you may remember I spent a day & night on the Sister Ship ‘Azura’ and I wished I could have stayed much longer ! Dale x
