I'm so excited to be celebrating Elemis' 15th Anniversary at QVCUK this weekend, we've got some great shows and products lined up for you. I haven't been here right from the start but I do remember my first day on air.
It was January 2001 – a new year and the start of my new career with QVC. I had just joined Elemis the December of the previous year and had been asked to go along to QVC for a screen test, really just to make up the numbers, but it was also a great experience for me also.
I was sooo incredibly excited as previously I had watched many beauty shows and was fascinated by the whole concept, and secretly had often wished that I would do something like that in the future.
I was amazed when I got the call to say that I had been successful and got the job! My first show was scheduled in for January. I was so nervous and was spending any free time practising my product descriptions in front of many family members and driving everybody mad!
When the day came I was up at the crack of dawn with my hair done, make up done and feeling so sick. I started on my journey to London - the traffic was horrendous and instead of what would normally be a two and half hour journey, three and half hours later I arrived in central London.
At this stage I was sweating, my once perfectly applied make up was now melting off. Immaculate hair was now frizzy and my heart was racing all over the place! I thought things couldn't get any worse but they did – I must have gone round the centre of London 15 times! I ended up leaving the car and jumped in a cab and headed straight to the studio as by now we only had 30 minutes 'til I was due on air. Normally you arrive two hours before a show!
I finally got to QVC, had the production assistant mic me up and straight on air I went. I was on air with Alison Young and she was amazing. She expertly put me straight at ease and all my long-winded explanations went out the window as each time I was ready with my lines the time went by in a flash. I don’t think I breathed for the whole hour in fact!
Now 9 years on I’m still absolutely loving being on air. It really is an amazing place and I have met some lifelong friends over the years in presenters, staff, other guests and many QVC viewers who have now become friends. It really is wonderful to be able to sit and talk about a brand I truly love.
Tune in for the Elemis shows on Friday at 6pm and 10pm, Saturday at 3pm and 11pm and Sunday at 12pm, 4pm and 11pm.
