Easter is a bit earlier this year and that’s just great! It gives us the chance to catch up on lots of gardening – and at this stage in the season, there’s plenty to do!
My first job is to spring clean the patio. In the past, this meant pressure washing and that’s blooming hard work. Luckily, as regular viewers will know, there’s a much easier option now. Simply spray on diluted Wet and Forget, then in just a few days the paving slabs will start to sparkle, almost as good as new. It will also partially kill moss growing in the cracks between the slabs but for more ingrained problems, my Double Action (glyphosate free) Weedkiller is the solution.
The next job is to clean the garden furniture to make the outdoors all the more welcoming. I’ve some rattan chairs (which are great as I can, and do, leave them outside all winter), but they need a little sponging down before I pop the cushions (which are stored indoors over winter) back on. Finally, I’ll be planting up a few extra pots of spring colour. Primroses are my favourites, they look lovely in close up and at a distance, and with regular watering and feeding (with Flower Power), they’ll look stunning for weeks.
Once the patio is tidied, I’ll start on the rest of the garden. I’ll cut the lawn, then, a couple of days later, water on some Lawn Magic (the second application of the year so far). Some of the edges have grown out of shape so I’ll tidy them up with the lawn edger and this will make the lawn look so much neater. It’s also a good time to sort out any patches with a sprinkle of grass seed.
Next, it’s the fun bit, planting time! I’ll be planting up my wigwams of sweet peas, pots of potatoes (they should be ready for harvesting from late June), and then potting on the young tomato and pepper plants.
That’s about all I’ll have time for as I’m taking part in a fantastic series of Easter gardening shows lined up at QVC. We’ve two Today’s Special Value offers (on Easter Friday and on Easter Sunday) as well as two hour shows on Saturday at 9am and Easter Monday (Founders Day with fabulous free P&P offers). To top it all, my 1.5kg tub of Flower Power is the April gardening Product of the Month and that means free postage and packing too. So if you want to grow more this summer, for less money, now could be a great time to buy it.
Happy Easter and happy gardening!
