Don’t tell Dawn Bibby!

Julia's school report I'm not very up on school holidays these days as my two have long since left school, but I think it must be around now that the children are breaking up for Easter. Do they still have end of term school reports? Well, when my Mum came down for Mother's Day she'd been doing some 'sorting out' and had come across some old primary school reports of mine which she brought with her.

The first thing I noticed was the very large class number – 42 in this case, but on one of the other reports there were 48 of us in the class, and yet we managed to learn and wouldn't have dreamed of misbehaving, or we would've been sent to the Headmaster for the cane!

That never happened to me, although the teacher that wrote this particular report once made me stand on my chair for 15 minutes in class. And what was my heinous crime? Small handwriting!

Let me explain. I had, and in fact still have, very untidy handwriting. I was starting a new exercise book so was making a supreme effort to write neatly and the writing was on the small side – OK, it was VERY small! Did it deserve the punishment handed out? Probably not, but I've never written that small again!

Looking at the teacher's remarks, I did always try to give my best and work hard, but it was the last bit that made me laugh. Good a Needlework – that's true, I even used to make clothes for a small boutique many years ago. BUT, good at Art? NEVER!!! Don't anyone show this to Dawn Bibby or she'll think I don't try in her craft hours. I'm on with her at 11pm on Saturday night and I'd hate to have to stand on a chair on TV!

What was your favourite subject at primary school? Believe it or not, mine was Maths!

I hope you all have a really enjoyable Easter and spend at least some of it with QVC as we have lots of terrific shows including Liz Earle, Richard Jackson and South Western Silver to name but a few. And we also have lots of Easter Surprises coming up, so stay tuned!

Oh, and don't eat TOO many chocolate eggs!

Much love,
Julia. xx.

    Hi Julia
I am really enjoying the new product ads at the moment. The Outerwear By Centigrade tune is really lovely. I saw the Dennis Basso one too. Im sure it was filmed in Malta. Brings back some lovely memories for me. We went there for our 5th wedding anniversary. We were sitting in one of the restaurants overlooking Valletta (which is featured in the ad) and my husband gave me a lovely diamonique ring which I had been admiring, was a lovely surprise.
Ahh, just watching the Easter Morning Show, and Caroline has just announced Liz Earle had a little baby boy, how lovely.
    Happy easter Julia
    Love Una x

Look at you Miss Swatty Julia!! 5th in the class eh! My writing is also terrible. I could rival a doctor I tell you! My favourite subject at School was French probably because I had a great Teacher who I liked a lot. I think that helps you in a subject if you get on with the Teacher.
I think your punishment was way too severe though! Wonder if the Teacher sees you now on QVC?
Have a great Easter too Julia.
PS Hope the footie goes ok too!
    Take care xxxxxxxx

    Hi Julia
Just been watching you on Liz Earle show and heard you mention about your primary school report so thought I would have a look. I agree that we did have very large classes all them years ago but as you said we didn’t dare mess about or else we would be chastised. My teenagers can’t believe we had board rubbers thrown at us or hit hard on the back of our legs with the teachers ruler. Wonder how they would manage large classes now with the no powers of discipline for the teachers. Anyway off my soap box now. Hope you and your family have a Happy Easter. Love to all LILLi x

    Hello Julia,
I love reading your blogs and this one is very interesting. It shows that you were and still are a very intelligent lady. My favorite subject at school was science, but I was probably best at english. I was NEVER good at art, but now am a huge dawn bibby fan and love to create my own little works of art with her inspiration. I am so thrilled that you and Dawn will be doing a craft show together this evening, please could you do more of them? I remember watching on a previous craft day that you and dawn were selling “shrink plastic” and how interested and intrigued you were…
I love watching you on QVC as you always make me smile, Keep up the good work… Happy Easter!

How lucky to still have all your old school reports…I wish I had mine. Unfortunately they went missing when my parents moved house whilst I was working away from home, so all my things were sorted out for me and they disappeared and I can’t ask my parents because they are no longer here.
We do have a couple of things in common though Julia, both having the name ‘Roberts’ and I also share the same birthday ’10 June’. You also mentioned having a MG Metro with red carpet…so did I! How weird is that, I bought some grey, black and red striped mats for it and it had big spot lights on the front and of course I thought I was super cool drivng round.
    Take care and Happy Easter!

    Hi Julia
I am a few years older than you {57} and went to school in Thornton Heath. We always had more than 40 in the class and yes we did pay attention as petrified of being sent to the headmistress and getting the cane as well. I was also a Crystal Palace supporter when lived in the area, my Dad took me to my first match in 1963!
Really enjoying the Diamonique show with you this afternoon, you are my favourite presenter.
Also I know you always use Decleor Hand cream, do you use their body lotion as well as your skin looks lovely.
Can’t wait to hear how you have lost weight Happy Easter.

    hHI julia,
My favourite subjects at school were arts and crafts. I still do a bit of painting and sketching now and again.Another subject I enjoyed was pottery and sculpture. However my classes didn’t match up to the ones in the film ‘Ghost’ as my instructor wasn’t a patch on Patric Swazie, he was rather dull and lacking in the hygiene dept.He did make an impression on me, or rather an impression of me as he made a cast of my hand to demonstrate to class the detail and intricacy of the human body. Thats as good as it got.School ain’t what it used to be though. The teachers don’t seem to have the authority to administer discipline any more and its the pupils who suffer in the long run. Anyway Julia you’ve brought back some old memories for me as I left school 50 years ago. Oh I didn’t realise till just now, it seems like yesterday. Loved reading your blog and reminiscing about my youth.By the way is there any news on the Solar tan through swim wear yet? love Jen

    Hi Una
I agree we use some lovely music for our promos – I also love the Kim and Co one.
I’ve been to Malta twice – once when Chris was working on the Canberra cruise liner and I went on one of the cruises with him, so it was just a stop for the day. The second time I took the children for a holiday when they were 7 and 8. We didn’t hire a car so went everywhere on the buses and the children were fascinated by them! We stayed at the Jerma Palace but went as far afield as Golden Bay the other end of the island. I LOVE Malta and will go back at some point.
    Hope you enjoyed Easter?

    Hi Steven
I wasn’t aware of being a swat but maybe I was a bit of one because I actually enjoyed lessons ……… !!!!!!!!!
I know what you mean about having the right teacher, it is hugely important and they have such an influence on the young mind.
Palace had a very good Easter – a point at Middlesborough then all 3 yesterday against Preston which really was a must win game. I went to that one and very pleased I did!! What made it even better was that none of the other teams in the relegation battle won – we HAVE to beat QPR on Saturday particularly as it is the return of Neil Warnock. How did Rangers do??
I don’t know if my old teacher will still be on this planet – we are talking 46 years ago remember and she must have been in her thirties then.
    au revoir

    Hi Lilli
Yes I had a good family Easter – hope you did too??
It’s not the teachers fault re the discipline, this country is just so PC these days – I could probably go to some tribunal and have the teacher suspended for 6 months if the situation had happened these days!!
I used to teach dancing at my Mum’s dancing school years ago and once sent a child out for persistantly talking. Her mother complained and my Mum backed me and asked the child to leave. None of the others ever talked in my classes again ( unless asked to of course! ) and none of the others wanted to leave, so the lesson was learnt.
I’m off my soap box now – we’re a right pair!!!!

    Hi SJ
Hope you enjoyed the craft show – it was with Amy not Dawn ( last minute change ) – at least I didn’t have to stand on the naughty chair!
I remember the shrink plastic – I still think it’s pretty cool. I don’t dislike craft shows it’s just that some of the others are really in to it so they get preference when the shows are allocated.
Thanks for your lovely compliment – glad I can bring a smile to your face!

    Hello Annette
OMG!!!!!!!!! How weird is that?? What colour was your MG Metro? I had 2. The first one was black and such a brilliant little car that I bought a second one 3 years later when it was time to change my car. BIG mistake – this one was white and I had nothing but trouble with it. It must have been the last one off the production line on a Friday afternoon if you know what I mean!?!?
Happy birthday in advance for the 10th June

    Hi Annette
Not often I get replies from 2 Annettes – not exactly a common name!
I know Thornton Heath well – the first house we bought was off South Norwood Hill on Ross Road near Grange Park – I bet you know it well ?? Do you still look for the Palace results??
I enjoyed the Diamonique show – we had some nice texts didn’t we?
Thanks for the compliments about my skin – I have had such issues with it over the last 6 months, probably an age thing. It’s just starting to get back to ‘normal’ – I do use ‘Systeme Corps’ – have done for about 12 years, but have also been using Elemis ‘Lime and Ginger Body Lotion’ as my highly reactive skin seems to find it soothing. LOVE my Decleor handcream though.
I have lost 9 pounds so far and when it is a stone ( my goal ) I will divulge all

    Hi Jen
I hope your instuctor never had occasion to put his arms around you as per ‘Ghost’ particularly with his hygiene problem!!! Do you still have the cast? My Art teacher at Grammer School was called Mr. Binch and his nickname ( very creatively ) was Leonardo de Binchi!!!!
A bit of bad news re Solar Swimwear – we are not doing it this year. I have spoken to the buyers and apparently they are investigating a similar range but it is unlikely that we will have it this year. Perhaps they have a website where you could purchase directly?

What a surprise I had when you produced the Downy Duckling book on air last night –couldn`t believe it!
you did send me a nice thank you note at the time –just before Christmas — you had talked about that book so often to Simon that I decided I had to track it down –they don`t write them like that anymore. Am working on `Ginger`s Adventures` for you –my personal favourite in that series was Bunny Fluffs Moving Day –did you ever read that one?
Do hope Simon enjoyed it –looking forward to tomorrow, were you also wearing the matching bracelet last week –still trying to decide which colour to go for in the TSV

    Hi Julia
Thank you for the advance birthday wishes, although not looking forward to it this year…the year of the BIG 50!!!
My little MG Metro was silver and I had many happy years until somebody in a capri rear-ended me. Had it repaired thro’ insurance and went to get some new rear tyres put on and the chap called me over and told me not to waste my money on tyres but to get rid asap because the bump had caused both tyres to sit at an angle, wearing on the inside and would cost a fortune to put right. I chopped it in for a red escort instead which I had for 7 years.
Hope you also have a great birthday and congrats on the weight loss, well done you. I’ve lost 1 stone 4lbs on Diet Chef, but had the usual Easter hiccup and will start again next week.
    Take care

    Hi Julia,
No, I don’t still have the cast of my hand.My teacher kept it.It would have made a nice soap dish for his bath room but I doubt if he ever used soap.Your teacher had a very apt nick name.We had a teacher called Mrs Frogmarsh, we called her Froggy. I wander if any of your other bloggers had funny names for their teachers?.
It was bad news about Solar swim wear. I have found a web site that sells them however they are much more expensive than QVC.Well I will simply wear the one I bought last year it is still in good condition.I liked the gold sandals you were wearing tonight on the Lilly & Van show, Did you get them from QVC I would love a pair if they do them in size 3.I also thought that the top you were wearing in blue on the same show realy suited you too. You should wear more blue, its a very youthful colour on you. Stay looking gorgeous, Love Jen

I was cheering when I had Jeff Stelling on and Palace were playing Preston! Massive win and Sheff Wed getting beat helped too. Who’s up next? Fingers crossed Palace can get a run going and stay up. I was at Ibrox last night – we beat Aberdeen 3-1 and now only need 2 wins for the Title. Things hopefully looking good for both our teams. Caught one of your shows after coming back last night with Simon – you looked sensational… and the jewellery wasn’t bad either 😀

    Morning julia
I love Malta too. I agree, the buses are something else! My husband was amused, never mind the kids!!! We did hire a car for 3 days, and covered most of the island, but I have to say, it was much more fun by bus!!
We did the helicopter trip to Gozo, and that was FAB. I would love to go back, just fantastic.
I was watching the Northern Nights show recently, and there was a O.T.O. I literally dived on the phone, dialled Q Cut, and managed to reserve the colour and size I wanted, I just put 3 digits of my PIN in, and my little 4 month old kitten (who was having his nightly mad half hour!!!) came flying into the room, jumped on the phone and cut me off. I was gutted, was very funny though, but he is SOOOO going back!!! Needless to say, the O.T.O sold out in seconds, ahh well, maybe next time!!
I had a lovely Easter, thank you. I hope you did too.

Bit of a bogey team this year. 5 points away now… we could win it at the weekend if Celtic slip up against Hibs and we beat Hearts on Sunday. Good luck to Palace at Derby. Don’t like Derby much probably to do with Mr Savage. Nice stadium though. Rangers played a Testimonial there for Ted McMinn.

I’m sorry if I’ve missed your post previously – I must confess that I don’t check all the previous posts very often.
The watch I wear is the white gold version of the original yellow gold popcorn which I had from QVC about 7 or 8 years ago and unfortunately we don’t sell it anymore. We do a similar watch in silver but it has an oval face rather than a round one.
Sorry I couldn’t be of more help
