Spring has most definitely sprung and we’re in the mood for a little spruce up. What better way to add a fresh twist to the season than with a little advice from our experts. We caught up with some of our Home and Kitchen gurus to find out just what they’ll be doing to change things up in this lovely new season and get a few ideas of our own….
Jilly Jones on the Nutri Ninja and EasiYo…
Spring is always my favourite time of year. I love seeing the beautiful spring blossom on the trees and it’s so nice to have the warmer days and lighter mornings. It’s a favourite time in my kitchen too and the abundance of wonderful spring produce always inspires me to enjoy the fresh flavours of the season with dishes that incorporate lots of wonderful fresh vegetables!
The amazing Nutri Ninja two-in-one is a great helper in the kitchen and makes it so easy for even the most novice cook to produce some fabulous foods. It’s quick and easy to rustle up a healthy hummus, a tasty tzatziki or a fresh and delicious salsa (see my recipe below) and serve it very simply with some warm wholemeal pitta bread (and of course the Nutri Ninja makes mouth-watering smoothies and healthy juices to kick start your day)!
For a delicious springtime Lemon & Dill dressing (pictured above) try my simple recipe using EasiYo Greek Yoghurt. Simply mix a couple of tablespoons of EasiYo with a handful of chopped dill, a teaspoon of crushed capers and a good squeeze of lemon juice. Chill for about an hour, then serve with steamed fresh salmon and beautiful spring vegetables (I like to use asparagus or green beans), or serve as a delicious dip for crudités or even as a dressing for your favourite salad.
Alternatively try this zingy Fresh Mango Salsa (pictured above)
1/2 a red onion
6 mini tomatoes or one large tomato
1/2 de-seeded jalapeno pepper (you can omit this if preferred)
1/4 a red pepper
1/4 a green pepper
A large handful of coriander
1/2 a mango cut into chunks
Juice of half a lime
Place all ingredients in Ninja Jug and pulse until desired consistency is reached. Squeeze fresh lime on top, mix well and serve immediately. Enjoy!
Julie Bates from Peony…
Spring is here at last, my absolutely favourite time of the year, the time when the garden starts waking up. We have enjoyed the most beautiful carpets of snowdrops and now an abundance of daffodils. The bluebells are about to be in the woods and the sea of them is just breathtaking. How can nature be such an incredible colour?!
Here at Peony all the seasons are very important but I just adore spring because of the bursts of colour we can fill the home with. Colour is so on-trend and don’t be afraid to put some colour in the form of Peony flowers into your décor, this immediately freshens the interior of any home especially after the winter bleakness.
The foliage is so much fresher suddenly – look around in the garden, and the blossom appearing on the trees is just magnificent, the shades of green are stunning after the browns and autumnal colours we have just had. Colours like a beautiful soft lemon and a pretty pink give the feeling of happiness and are so uplifting – the lighter nights gives us energy as we watch everything coming alive.
One of my favourites is the fuchsia pink of the dianthus prettily arranged with freesias and gypsophila – this is displayed in a little fish bowl and the colours complement the silver grey headboard behind the bed. I just adore this on our bedside table even my husband Ken loves it there -they complete the look in my home and the pleasure that Peony flowers give me is just bliss.
Spring is traditionally the time when we clear out the old to make way for the new, fling open the doors and let the outside air refresh our homes.
It is now that I tend to de-clutter, have a good old spring clean and light my Clean Cotton Yankee Candle. Still one of Yankee Candle’s bestselling fragrances, it captures perfectly the smell of freshly laundered linen and is the ideal scent to freshen your home after the dark, dull days of winter. It makes my home feel bright and new again.
The thing I love best about spring is the flowers. I know that summer is around the corner when the sun and the daffodils come out; this is when I love to burn all my favourite floral fragrances. Yankee Candle’s true to life fragrances are showcased best with scents such as Garden Sweetpea and Fresh Cut Roses (Lilac Blossom is in my melt warmer as I write this). Our conservatory is reinvented as a sunny room to sit and enjoy coffee in. The brand new Lavender fragrance with its matching accessories also helps to bring the garden to life well ahead of the blooms appearing.
Gill Gauntlett on Bethlehem Lights and Bella Notte…
Spring is here, and if you’re anything like me, you couldn’t be happier to see winter fade away. Not only does it start to get warmer, and the days get longer, but also because I’m in the mood for a spring clean!
I always find doing a few chores makes your house look cleaner and more sparkling, even if you know there’s still dust lurking on the top of the dresser. First thing I do on a dry sunny day is throw open my windows and allow the house to breathe properly for the first time in months. I check my walls and ceilings for dirt, cobwebs and dust, vacuum all carpets and shampoo them if necessary, change my winter throws on the sofa and my bedding from winter furs to lightweight spring linen!
Bethlehem Lights and Bella Notte are my absolute favourite way to add that touch of spring to my home. Its easy to add those finishing touches – I have fallen in love with the Peony and Hydrangea garlands (pictured above) at the moment I am using them inside but come the summer will be taking them out! You can really add a touch of spring with the Tulip and Daffodil pot (pictured above) and a touch of style with the peonies in the vase (on the mantel below). I also love the Bella Notte Birdcage – it’s adorable with its shabby chic effect.
