- And final Back to You Monday 27th 9pm, plus sneaky peeks of upcoming bargains!
Firstly congrats to Jill Dowding-Walker who won last week’s Mally comp – just wait till you see the bumper bundle of prizes in my final January competition below!
QVC BEAUTY BASH HITS BILLINGSGATE
This week I finally made it to our annual Beauty Bash, an exhibition of our top brands where hundreds of lucky randomly-invited beauty customers get to come play meet-the-guests! My sis Linda was there, with Red Carpet Manicure, as were most of our regular beauty faces.
Even Michele Mone the Ultimo whizz kid and U-Tan inventor (pictured with me and Ali Y), and the elegant Tova Borgnine made an appearance (below getting a pic with her customers) - as well as the most important ingredient of course – you guys!
I went on Thursday, when fellow presenters Marv, Julia and lovey Miceal also went – this pic was as we welcomed everyone. My dress is from Ingenue, see it here.
It was a very busy event – and thanks to everyone who came up to say hi. We had such fun, hearing from each of you, and chatting about all things beauty.
One of the best things about it for most people, I was told, is seeing all the well-known faces, up close and personal. Also, asking some of the brands about upcoming specials…
Like this Sunday’s launch at 6pm with me and Caroline, of the new Liz Earle body fragrance products! Can’t wait! It’s an advanced order preview – don’t miss it – it’s always busy when Liz and team launch new ranges!
Plus Alison talked about, very excitedly, another launch this weekend: Benefit’s new brow treatment – exclusive to us!
Join Julia and the Benefit gang Saturday at 4pm. I found guest Lisa who told me a bit more about it.

Don’t forget that this whole weekend (25/26th) is packed with Beauty brands – just go here to our TV Guide to see what’s on when – and grab hold of that remote control so you don’t miss a thing!
BACK TO YOU – SHOW 3 & BLOOPER
Firstly, if you’d like to see the whole of show 3 last Monday, go here.
Secondly – this is not the end! Well, yes it’s the end of the current series, and hopefully the ‘campaign’ to bring it back later in the year (just email firstname.lastname@example.org) may well play a part in that. But our regular January Monday night 9pm hour of products, messages and ideas that help you focus on you, will continue in its Facebook format at least. How could we not? With so many people being so supportive of each other on there – do go join ‘Back to You QVC’ group, with over 500 members you’ll be in good company!
Here’s another lovely post from one of the group – Lynne Sneddon says,
“Debbie you and your back to you has helped me in January by getting me to focus not just on wanting to lose weight but the other aspects of me… getting fitter, thinking of different ways to enhance who I am now and who I want to be, thinking about experimenting with different looks in clothes, hair and make up. Back to you has helped me realise that yes I am a wife and a Mum of 3 kids but I am also ME xx Thanks a million Debbie and QVC, 2014 is going to be FABULOUS”
And if you’re a member, you’ll see an announcement at the start of February about a challenge I’d like members to tackle, to make the whole ‘keep at it’ theme going! Intrigued? Just join the Back to You QVC group on facebook and all will be revealed!
So here’s a million dollar question – has Back to You helped you in any way? Our Monday night show ends this week, so don’t miss the final Bodyblade (432954) One Minute Challenge – it’s going to be a double whammy! And here’s Dale’s contribution to Monday’s show – funny man! Haha!
Plus, see the fabulous hints and tips from others, in the final Monday Update, that’s on www.debbieflint.co.uk on this week’s Back to You page. This week, over on my own website, read a message from Kim (Kim and Co) and her tips for choosing fashions that flatter. The theme for show 4 on Monday night will be Health and Beauty – here are a couple of clips to inspire you! See you on air!
Still to come… see Charlie’s pooches… Beauty Weekend ahead… and my biggest blog competition ever!
READ IT WRITE IT SELL IT
RiWiSi – my weekly look at all things book!
Book of the Week
'Bad Luck and Trouble' by Lee Child. So happy to be recommending this book to you this week.
Jack Reacher, Lee Child’s ex-military cop hero, has kept me company (on audio book) for upwards of 100 hours in my long journeys to and from work this past year. This week, I finished story number 11 in the series, and in some respects it was the best yet as this time he’s got help from the past.
I love action adventures with a puzzle to work out – it’s always who’s holding whom hostage, how to catch the bad guys, and who are the bad guys. Quite varied and well-written, plus I do like Jeff Harding’s way of reading Lee Child books. Of course also, I interviewed Lee a couple of years ago on QVC (watch it here), before I’d really got into the books. I was terribly impressed with this Brit, an ex-Granada TV director, turned best-selling author – writing about an all-american hero.
Anyway, even though it’s not a new release, the eBook is still popular – at 237 in paid-kindle store in the UK at time of writing, so get it and find out if you’re also a Reacher fan, like I am! Or even better, go back to read them in order – I hear there are 18 now! All filled with kick-a** action and righting of wrongs! You don’t mess with the Special Investigators!
(P.S. I’m currently also listening to a time-travel quirky audio book by Diana Gabaldon, which won’t be a book of the week but if you like 1750’s Scottish clan history it’s well worth a listen! Outlander is 33 hours or so, as is the sequel ‘Dragonflies in Amber’! Bit twee but enjoyable enough if you like what I like.)
Free Books for your Kindle – every week
Second RiWiSi item this week is a clever link for content for your kindle or kindle app. If you didn’t know already, I thought I’d mention it, there’s a page on Amazon (click here) where you can check out the top 100 FREE eBooks, yes that’s FREE, which are all usually on very temporary offers.Ones you may never see being marketed, ones from new authors, or ones from existing established traditionally published authors, like former Book of the Week author Sue Moorcroft, whose free title is currently riding high.
Read more on my weekly Fiction focus on my own website, www.debbieflint.co.uk, including, for self-publishers, one powerhouse author’s tip for getting rich. News about writing courses for beginners. Plus a link to the above top-rated, number one download from Sue Moorcroft ‘Want to Know a Secret’ – if you like romances, don’t miss it! All on the latest RiWiSi update here!
OK! This is it! As mentioned previously, a huuuuuuuge! bumper bundle of prizes to be won this week. I’m going to make a change to the usual method of awarding the prize, and have more than one option on offer!
Here are some pics of the prizes so far, and all you need to do is the usual – just leave a comment below and tell me you’d like to win one of them. Comp is open till next Thursday midday (30th).
Prize 1 – the pink set – King sized pink flannel bedding set from Northern Nights, plus yankee candles tealights set in pink, and the huge collagen gel one litre size from SBC and the Elemis Pro-radiance cleanser and cloth. Value around £90
Prize 3 – Kim and Co – £75 value clothes shopping experience (you’ll be put in touch with Kim’s assistant Sam, to choose products which suit you!). Prize 4 – A Bodyblade and a signed copy of Till the Fat Lady Slims (2002), (click to see it on Amazon) my semi-autobiographical weight loss book from when I first learned the principles of freedom eating and haven’t had a binge since. Whoop! Value £71.
Full list and T&C’s here.
Reminder – All you need to do to enter is to leave a comment below, and say the phrase ‘enter me for prize 1’ or such like! Make sure you include the prize number! Closes midday Thursday (27th).
- Sneaky Peek! Join Lee Hohbein for a very exciting Chromebook Today’s Special Value on Saturday Feb 1st – it’s been selling out everywhere apparently! Early adopters, get ready for this brand new technology.
PLUS – Got to make a fuss about a new range coming to QVC this weekend with Alison – if you’re reading this afterwards, do search the brand on qvcuk.com and watch some of the videos – you’ll find the tab for videos behind the picture. Radical Skincare seems to make a lot of sense. If you’re looking for premium-premium, join Alison Sunday at 1pm
- Shhh! Very excited to tell you that we have a highly affordable Spring Fashion Event currently scheduled all day for Monday 17th/ Tues 18th Feb – which will please all those who said at the Beauty Bash that they wished we could do the same for fashion! I’ll be kicking it off with Ronnie Nicole and lovely guest Ouida, midnight Sunday 16th – tbc but put it in your diary!
- Charlie’s Pooches made their appearance on Wednesday night’s Pet Show! How funny they were – but very well behaved – do go see Charlie’s blog for more info – and as I said on Twitter, Misty and Bramble were warned never to work with Charlies on live TV! Hehe!
- Kiss me Kwik Screen What a fun lot our backstage team are! Guests remarked that they’d like some privacy to lift up clothes to put their microphones on, in the area in between our two main studios, and this is what they got!
It’s a big cardboard screen, a la ‘kiss me kwik’ seaside scenes! Here’s me and Clare Sutton posing behind it!
Quite apart from the fact that every Tuesday is ‘Clearance Tuesday’ with new web-only bargains added to qvcuk.com, (I love telling people about that one!), and the fact that our Pinterest page is full of fab pics.
DID YOU KNOW that we now have a place you can go to see highlights clips or live feed, of what’s on all four of our channels now? Even if you don’t have satellite etc? Worth a look! Go here to see more.
- BLOOPER – Jenny from Together is such fun – and so easy to wind up! Hehe! This was last week…
- Fabulous Pic How joyous a pic is this? I just had to include it this week, to make you smile. It says: ‘This is Jessica Giddens. She was announced Homecoming Queen at her school in Georgia. Jessica has Downs Syndrome. Her father is a solder serving in Afghanistan & returned home just so he could escort her to the game.’ Lovely. Just lovely.
- Property Guardians Seems there are some ingenious ways of beating the property prices at the moment – saw this interesting feature about the tenants who are setting up camp in empty offices to deter squatters but also to save a fortune in rent! It’s cool how some have decked out their ‘homes’! Two of my family are looking for their next home, too bad this scheme isn’t more readily available! In fact if they took four dogs, I’d do it! Haha!
- Debbie and Lee Do Dinner – And before you ask, no it was absolutely NOT a date! In another life maybe! Lol. But Lee is one of my bezzies at the Q, and we had a fab catch up over dinner in the Soho Club in Chiswick on Tuesday.
We’re trying to work out how to coincide trips to LA so we can BOTH meet up with lovely Antthony out there. Maybe March… I’ve got a lot of leave to use up before the end of March so we’ll see. Craigy wants to come to Champney’s with me too, which would be amazing fun. (and before you ask… )
WATCH – Have been watching lots of helpful healthy videos this week – many suggested by the lovely ladies on the Back to You QVC Facebook group. This one was spotted by lovely Jill Dowding-Walker (weird that Jill was randomly chosen by my blog helper Sarah and was going to be in the blog anyway! Lol!).
It’s soooooo worth watching. If you are puzzled why you feel unhealthy or overweight and need a powerful insight, do watch this on youtube – it’s the latest from Dr Robert Lustig.
Remember me going on about Sugar the Bitter Truth a couple of years ago? And now finally this January it’s all over the place that it’s not fat but sugar that’s to blame for so many health issues. Well this is the updated version of his talk – only an hour! – and many more visuals,. Soooo fascinating – so watch it! Comment below if it – or if Back to You – has helped you do a rethink this January.
P.S. – the debate continues – iPlayer should allow you to see it if you’ve missed it, but horizon on BBC1 on Wednesday night (29th) apparently has a superb ‘Fat versus Sugar’ topic – just up my street!
THIS WEEK – apart from the highlights above, join us for:
- Back to You show 3 – Monday (27th) 9pm – last one – don’t miss it!
NEXT WEEK – a day out with best pal LJ, brother’s birthday bash and reporting back on the final Back to You!
Have a great week!
*TiFFT = Try it for The First Time club! Shhhh – watch out for big news about TiFFT’s when Back to You is over!
